  1. Oh come on, Porcello is not nearly as bad as you make him out to be. Expect a rebound this year. Not to the 2016 level, but definitely much better than 2017.
  2. LOL Too late.
  3. In all seriousness, I'd have to give the edge to the Yankees to win the division. But I wouldn't rule out the good guys.
  4. Fangraphs currently has the two offenses dead even in terms of runs scored.
  5. !!! End of discussion.
  6. I don't think Moreland was a bad signing. I am glad that he was re-signed and am happy to have him on the team. That said, with the way that free agent contracts have gone this year, Dombrowski probably could have gotten him for a lot cheaper if he had waited out the market like he did with JD. It's the risk you take though, not knowing how the market will play out.
  7. Notin for GM!
  8. Clay Buchholz? Honestly, I have no clue.
  9. Rick? As in Porcello?
  10. What matters most is to get the best hitters in the lineup, not where they are placed. I've posted before that a manager can literally pull his lineup out of a hat everyday and hardly miss a beat over the course of a season. I kid you not.
  11. IMO, it is more beneficial to put a batter in a line up slot where he feels comfortable than it is to put him in his 'optimal' spot. But not alienating players goes back to the idea of being able to communicate the data to the players in a way that they will buy into it. Having a batter hit 2nd instead of 3rd will only make a difference of about 2 runs over the course of a season, but as you pointed out, every run counts.
  12. I'm not suggesting that the players have to understand it, just that they have to buy into it. If they don't buy into it, it's likely not going to work. I think that a lot of the managers themselves don't buy into the analytics, and therefore don't use much of the information given to them by the FOs, and therefore didn't see the need to communicate this information to the players. I really think that there is a disconnect between the analytically minded FOs and the traditionally minded managers, though I believe the trend is changing. The Red Sox have a special coach, Ramone Vazquez, whose job it is to make that connection, and to relay such information to the players in a way that it's not threatening. My understanding is that Cora specifically asked for this coaching position to be added.
  13. I agree that confidence and attitude can affect a hitter's performance. I know that players, both pitchers and batters, believe it exists. I will stop right there.
  14. Manny was pretty bad. So was Hanley.
  15. I have no doubt that he will get playing time in the outfield. I also don't have a problem with that, in a limited, 4th outfielder type role. I'm just saying he's not very good out there.
  16. I trust what the defensive metrics tell me. Can you determine whether a hitter is a bad hitter by looking at his stats?
  17. I have not watched him play that many games, and certainly have not scrutinized the way he plays defensively. Do I have to have done that to know that he is pretty bad defensively when I have the stats (and scouting reports) that say he's that bad? If there were a pitcher with as much experience and playing time as JD, and every year his ERA ranged from 6 to 6.5, would you know that he's a bad pitcher or would you have to see him pitch first to make that determination? I know I'd feel pretty comfortable forming the opinion that said pitcher stinks. Why are defensive metrics any different?
  18. Dombrowski needs to go dumpster diving.
  19. I'm with you Moon. Mark me down as a Leon fan.
  20. He stabilized our 3B position last season when the team sorely needed it.
  21. Not when that 3rd catcher can play other positions.
  22. I very much agree with your posts on the topic of our 3 catchers.
