  1. Valid point. IMO, Cora is just trying to give Price the honor of being the #2 guy behind Sale. It's likely that Price's and Sale's starts end up getting separated because of all of the early off days or some other reason.
  2. I really like this.
  3. That's not happening either. Not anytime soon, anyway.
  4. Not a chance. Not anytime soon, anyway.
  5. Swihart could possibly reach elite level too, I suppose. I'm not trying to knock him. I really like the guy. I'm going off of what the scouting reports said before either one of them got injured. Vazquez was touted as an elite defensive catcher, while Swihart could become a good defensive catcher and the better overall catcher. If Swihart reached the elite level defensively, I'd be thrilled.
  6. Sure, if you're talking about one of your regular starters versus a role player. But if you're talking about the difference between two bench players or 2 mediocre pitchers, the one with the option is going to be sent down. It's a fact of life.
  7. Not all of us were overly concerned that we needed to add more power. Moreland and Hanley at first base can be a pretty doggone good platoon.
  8. Amen to that!
  9. I don't think he will reach Vazquez level defensively because I think Vazquez has the potential to be elite. He was headed there before he was set back by an injury and missed an entire season. I didn't say that is was not likely that Swihart can be an average catcher.
  10. I don't really believe it either, but that's the way it should be. I could see Holt taking a phantom DL stint to buy the Sox a little more time to sort things out.
  11. The article brought up the same point that was brought up last year, which I had forgotten about. Because the Sox have a stronger rotation than most other teams, there is a lesser likelihood that those dumpster dives will be able to earn a regular starting pitching job with the Sox than with other teams. They are signing minor league deals, but they are choosing to sign elsewhere, where they have a better chance of making the big league club. I will have to give Dombrowski a pass on not signing more minor league pitching depth.
  12. I still don't understand all of the dislike or the questioning of the Moreland signing. IMO, it was a solid move. Also, I don't share everyone's opinion of Holt. I am in no hurry to get rid of him and am hopeful that he can bounce back this year if he can stay healthy.
  13. What are you even talking about?
  14. I'm not so sure that they've given up on him at catcher. I think they are having him play other positions so they can find a way to keep him on the 25 man roster. He would not be worthy of a spot if he could only be the 3rd catcher.
  15. Sale and Price are set up to be the #1 and #2 starters. Sale being the Opening Day starter was a no brainer. I wasn't sure where Price would fall after last season, but I'm not surprised that Cora has him slated to be the #2 guy.
  16. When it comes to bench guys and middle reliever types, those who have options start the season in AAA. It might not be fair, but it's the smart thing to do.
  17. Swihart, at one point, was projected to be an above average defender. He got yanked around a bit by the team, sometimes out of necessity, sometimes out of panic. With enough playing time behind the plate, I think he could be a solid defender. He won't reach Vazquez level, but he could be solid.
  18. He probably could have used some more time in AAA working on defense. But somebody panicked.
  19. It depends on how horribly Leon hits and how well Swihart can play the position. But at midseason, yes, it might be reasonable to consider making that change. At this point, there is no way I'd even consider it.
  20. Swihart has the potential to be a much better defensive catcher than Salty ever was.
  21. I am more old school than most people realize.
  22. You know a lot of the players are kicking themselves for not accepting some pretty strong deals earlier in the offseason. I am still in shock over what Moustakas signed for.
  23. Fair enough. In 2015, the Sox were still projected to be contenders for the division, but not as widely as they were in 2014. But in 2015, we had some widespread offensive underperformances.
  24. Theo was at the point where he was all in. His team was ready. The Sox were not there yet. Of course it's all speculation. But you'll have a hard time convincing me otherwise.
