  1. I have agreed that I think Cora probably left Kelly in one batter too long, but in game one of the season, the decision is defensible. For many reasons.
  2. If I didn't know what I was doing, there would be no stress. As they say, ignorance is bliss.
  3. Trust me, I tried. It's a 13 team league, with several Yankees fans playing. It's the Dem Yanks league from the old board. I drafted as many Yankees as I could reasonably could.
  4. I pretty agree with everything you said here. I do not blame Cora for this loss. Then again, one would be hard pressed to find any loss that I blame on the manager. Cora absolutely has to show a little faith in his players, so while I thought he left Kelly in one batter too long, I have no problem with him doing so.
  5. OTOH, this is what Farrell got criticized often about - not being able to change the plan when the game situation called for it. Not that I agree with that criticism, just pointing that out.
  6. Two OOBs already. Cora defended both of them. Sounds a lot like Farrell.
  7. Not the way that I wanted to see Cora start his season, having to face the hound dogs right away, but he knows what it's like to play in Boston. He'll be fine.
  8. I agree with this philosophy as well. Yesterday's game just wasn't the time to employ it.
  9. You cannot manage an April (or March) game the same way you would manage a September game. You just can't. You'd blow out your pen by June. IMO, Cora left Kelly in one batter too long, but even that decision can be defended, being the first game of the season. Francona said it best, and I'm stealing this from Speier: There were instances when accepting an increased risk of one loss was the right thing to do for the sake of his team’s well-being in the bigger picture.
  10. If Xander hits like he did yesterday, he'd do more damage in the 5 hole than he would in the 3 hole.
  11. Hanley was injured last year. This year it's a whole new ball game.
  12. Hanley gets a bad rap. I'm pulling for him to have a monster season. If his option vests, that would be fine by me.
  13. Our bullpen will be fine. Cora will be fine. Those kinds of bullpen implosions happen. That it happened in the opening game of the season makes it seem a lot worse.
  14. What foundation?
  15. I don't have Hicks on my team, nor do I have Stanton, which is why he was able to hit 2 HRs yesterday.
  16. Hope the Yankees appreciate the one game handicap we gave them. They'll need it. Let's go!
  17. On the flip side, I was getting ready to say that we got one of our worst losses out of the way early. It can only get better for us.
  18. My daughter also has a pink Sox hat, which she has outgrown. Hers is hanging on her bedroom doorknob.
  19. JD will get his share of time in the outfield. He wants to play the field, and Cora has his back. Hopefully, he will have a good defensive year with us.
  20. OTOH, unless there is an actual reason for the slump, like an injury or a personal crisis, a slump, like a hot hand, has little predictive value.
  21. I agree. Also, is it better to bench someone who is struggling, and give him a chance to 'clear his head', or is it better to let the player play through the slump? I think some players respond better to the former approach, and others respond better to the latter.
