  1. That's the silver lining to last night's loss. Porcello is pitching very well. If he can continue to do so, that bodes well for the remainder of the season.
  2. Absolutely. I have defended Price's leadership and clubhouse presence just as I have defended Pedroia's.
  3. Not if it comes at the expense of their defense. Of course I'd be thrilled if Vaz and Leon started hitting better. I would not be thrilled to have a better hitting catcher who stinks on defense.
  4. Your eyes are biased though. And that's not a knock on you, that's just human nature. That being the case, you might think that someone is a better fielder than he actually is because he's on your team.
  5. Nunez is not meant to be a full time player. When Pedey comes back, Nunez reverts back to his utility role. Pedey will need regular rest, and Nunez will still get his share of at bats. It's a good problem to have, I guess.
  6. I don't know how you took my comment, but I have absolutely no issues with you Max.
  7. I don't think the Jays will be in any race either. We've seen them get off to hot starts before, only to fade quickly. Besides, the competition is too good for them to be able to stick around.
  8. Red Sox catchers rank last in OPS. I'm not complaining, just sharing this little tidbit. Actually, I'm okay with that.
  9. I turned the game off when the Yankees scored 2 in the first. When the Yanks and the Twins are scheduled to play, the Twins should just forfeit and give the Yankees 3 wins. It would save everybody a lot of time.
  10. No, but every comment that I've ever heard about Pedroia from his teammates, both past and present, with regards to his leadership and clubhouse presence has been positive.
  11. Cora is following the advice from Francona that sometimes the long term benefits take precedence over a possible win today. This 'managing a marathon' philosophy is one that I've always agreed with. I don't quite understand having to rest several starters on the same day, but it worked for the Astros last season, so we'll see.
  12. Yes, there are a lot of people who still do.
  13. Watch the Yankees game. Until/unless they start winning.
  14. I'm not trying to say that Morrison or Duda are better than JD. I'm just saying that the rest of the batters would be seeing similar improvements over last year even without JD in the line up.
  15. You are trying way too hard to discredit defensive stats. The point here is that the stats about JD's defense were right. Before he played a single game for Boston, we already knew that JD was not a good defensive outfielder. Based on stats only.
  16. We'll have to wait and see, I guess. I don't see Nunez getting that much playing time in the OF. Cora just seems really bent on resting players regularly and he considers JD our 4th outfielder.
  17. Sometimes I am, sometimes I'm not. It depends on how long the delay is and how many commercial breaks (pitching changes) there are.
  18. The incident seems to bother some fans a lot more than it bothered his teammates. I wasn't happy with Pedroia when the incident occurred, but my mind was quickly changed about it.
  19. Speaking of quirky, someone sent me this video yesterday of David Hulse hitting 4 consecutive foul balls into the same spot in the Angels dugout. The reactions of the players are hilarious.
  20. It's the beauty of the sport.
  21. BTW Max, great game thread mojo! Time for somebody else not named Kimmi to step in.
  22. I agree with you about avoiding it as much as possible. That said, Cora is going to play JD in the outfield fairly regularly, partly to appease JD and partly to rest the outfield. I can't really argue with that line of thinking either. Cora's thinking might change if JD starts hurting the team with his defense. IMO, however, it's not going to be so much the obvious flubs that will hurt the team, but rather the harder to recognize plays that he just didn't make.
  23. The mighty Orioles are 3-1 against the Yankees. 3-14 against everyone else.
