    Speaking of quirky, someone sent me this video yesterday of David Hulse hitting 4 consecutive foul balls into the same spot in the Angels dugout. The reactions of the players are hilarious.

    I agree with you about avoiding it as much as possible. That said, Cora is going to play JD in the outfield fairly regularly, partly to appease JD and partly to rest the outfield. I can't really argue with that line of thinking either. Cora's thinking might change if JD starts hurting the team with his defense. IMO, however, it's not going to be so much the obvious flubs that will hurt the team, but rather the harder to recognize plays that he just didn't make.

    I actually stayed up and watched this whole game live. (Have I mentioned that I hate commercials?) The beauty of it being the weekend.

    The only ones in which I already know the score are the late weekday west coast games or a few games that I might miss while I'm out of town. Watching on a 30 minute delay is just like watching live. That said, even in the games where I know the score ahead of time, I don't know how or when the scoring took place. I still find it enjoyable to watch those games. It's like watching the 2004 World Series DVD over and over. I know what's going to happen, but I enjoy seeing it again and again.

    I know that you and I were on the same page in terms of having many of our players rebounding offensively this year. For me, it wasn't just possible, it was very likely to happen. Expected.

    A no hitter in which a pitcher gives up so many walks just doesn't sit right with me.

    Not taking anything away from Manaea, but I don't think anyone would disagree that luck (randomness) plays a part in no hitters. Which is why some of the greatest pitchers never had one and some lesser pitchers do. Both Leon and Beni could have had hits last night, but for the random decisions of the official scorer and the umpires. I think probably one of the most difficult things in throwing a no hitter is being able to keep the pitch count low enough to get a complete game. Completes games, in and of themselves, are such rare feats these days.

    Yup. Just in case any of the Sox players were getting a little too full of themselves, and I am not saying that they were, this was a good reality check.

    Technically, we could have had two hits, though neither one of those balls was scorched. I don't like being no hit anymore than anyone else (Actually, it was more losing the game that I don't like), but I am glad that none of the Sox hitters tried to lay down a bunt late in the game.

    Any player should potentially be traded for the right price or if the return player will significantly upgrade the team as a whole. Not that I want Jackie traded.

    Of course he does. He's a good hitter who contributes to the offense. What I don't agree with is that the other players are hitting better this year because they are being 'protected' by JD. IMO, the others would be hitting better this year even if JD had not been signed.

    Absolutely. Being aggressive does not mean being stupidly aggressive. The Sox are being aggressive, but at the same time they have remained very disciplined.

    I record every game. Even when I'm home, I rarely watch the game live, mostly because I hate sitting through commercials. I will watch most games on tape delay, starting 30 minutes to an hour after the actual start time, and I usually finish the game at about the same time the actual game is ending. Late night games, I usually watch the next day, but will often already know the score. If I'm out of town, I record the game the home, and watch it live on MLB.tv if I can. Then come home and watch anything that I missed (if it's worth watching). Watching the Sox game is something I look forward to every day. I am lost when there's not a game on.

    Much to my dismay, the Yankees are not going to go away. Therefore, the short answer is NO.

    When I said 'he really has been that bad', I wasn't talking about this year. I was talking about his career overall. So far this year, I don't think he's been terrible. But at the same time, I'd much prefer that he play LF as little as possible.

    The talent was there last year too. For whatever reason (not named JD Martinez or 'protection'), the Sox hitters largely underperformed. They were due to bounce back this year.

    The philosophies that Cora has brought with him from Houston seem to be working extremely well. Not just with being more aggressive on the first pitch, but his overall with everything. It's early yet, but I'm impressed.
