  1. Swihart is all but sure to be the odd man out when Pedroia comes back. The only other possibility is sending JBJ back to AAA.
  2. It's a trade off. While he comes up often with no one on base, he is getting more at bats and he's setting the table better than anyone else would be for the middle of the order guys. Mookie may not be getting as many RBI opportunities as we'd like, but he's still creating runs.
  3. To me, the Extra Innings package is worth every penny.
  4. I read this morning that Betts has only been kept off the bases in 3 games this season. That is astounding.
  5. Some of it might be, but he's still being victimized by some bad luck. His line drive % is about on par with his career norm. His soft contact % is actually slightly lower, but so is his hard contact %. His medium contact % is higher. I have seen Jackie hit some weak pop ups, but I've also seen him smoke the ball right at a defender.
  6. I do not disagree with you.
  7. He does look pretty bad at that plate. But he is also the victim of a .214 BABIP. Either way, we know he is not a .164 hitter.
  8. I really don't disagree with most of what you have posted here. I have stated before that the team has to go with the best overall alignment, factoring in both offense and defense. I do prefer seeing Moreland in the line up over JBJ, I can't argue about that. To date, JD has not been a great liability in the outfield. That said, if he continues at his current pace, he would end up costing the team roughly 2 games defensively over 150 games. JBJ will end up saving us roughly one game defensively. That's a 3 game swing, which is not insignificant. I do caution that we are still dealing with a very small sample size and that JD will not play 150 games in the OF.
  9. Neither JBJ or the Vazquez/Leon tandem are typically that bad offensively though. They have been somewhat victimized by bad luck. You have to think that all 3 players will turn it around offensively and hit somewhere near their career norms.
  10. Stop Natick. Just stop.
  11. I have always been 100% on the Vazquez defensive train, but I have to admit that he's been a little underwhelming so far this year. And I'm just talking about his defense. He hasn't been bad, but to date, I think Leon has outperformed him behind the plate. I think Leon is getting more out of the pitchers than Vazquez is. As of now, I'd give Leon the nod over Vazquez, and that's not an easy thing for me to say.
  12. IMO, Swihart was mishandled, but I do agree with your overall point of prospects not panning out.
  13. I am 100% in agreement with this.
  14. It might not have worked out anyway. I can't argue with that.
  15. Sent him to AAA and worked on his development, solely as a catcher.
  16. I love Mookie in the lead off spot. I hope that Cora does not decide to move him down in the order.
  17. I've said many times that Red Sox fans are the coolest fans around. Yankees fans wish they could be half as cool. Of course they're going to hang out on Red Sox forums. Who wants to hang out on a Yankees forum???
  18. I get the feeling that pretty much the whole organization knew about it all along and just looked the other way.
  19. Welcome aboard Charlie!
  20. I don't blame the Sox for Swihart's injury. I do blame them for moving him off of catcher so quickly that year.
  21. One of them was likely to be traded eventually. I just think that management mishandled Swihart.
  22. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't think you get the same type of development playing in big league games as you do in the minors. That said, I don't really blame management for calling him up in 2015. They really had no choice. My main criticism is the way they handled 2016.
  23. I agree that Vazquez was going to be the #1 catcher. I also agree that he was not ready at the start of the season. I very much disagree that Vazquez was coming up after 6 game regardless of what Swihart did. Swihart was most definitely sent down after 6 games due to poor play. Vaz could have used more time in AAA. He was called up in panic, much the same way Devers was called up in panic. My point is not that Swihart hasn't caught that many innings with the Sox. It's that his development was not handled properly. I would hate to lose Swihart, but I agree that if the Sox are not going to play him, they need to trade him. Having him take up a roster spot is doing him no good and the team no good.
