  1. Well I think that Moon was talking about Cora and our catchers? I think that our catchers mostly call their own games.
  2. I really don't think that's the case.
  3. They should let Swihart catch Sale. IMO, he has the best chance of not being affected by any shortcomings that Swihart has behind the plate.
  4. 1. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF 2. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 3. Mitch Moreland (L) 1B 4. J.D. Martinez ® DH 5. Dustin Pedroia ® 2B 6. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 7. Brock Holt (L) RF 8. Sandy Leon (S) C 9. Jackie Bradley Jr. (L) CF Still no Mookie. Leon is catching Pom tonight. Pom will be dealing. WIN!
  5. LOL It's so obvious that you are really, really concerned about the Red Sox. Keep trying to convince yourself otherwise!
  6. The 'Stros are just messin' with the Yankees right now.
  7. I appreciate that you took the time to apologize. It takes a big person to own his mistakes. Welcome back.
  8. This is what I'm talking about oldtimer. Back to the subjectivity of balls and strikes, and therefore, the subjectivity of every related stat. An umpire can more or less make the strike zone whatever he wants to.
  9. I think they could be trained. I'm not saying that an umpire will ever be near perfect, but I think we could get a fair improvement on missed calls. I also think we could get a more consistent idea of where the strike zone is.
  10. Here is the stat of the day: Mike Axisa 13m AL Central teams are 59-104 when not playing each other. The AL Central stinks to high heaven.
  11. It can't be proven, but those contracts, especially Pablo's, just don't follow Ben's MO. Not one bit.
  12. That's an absolute Bingo. Max, I understand why the Sox DFA'd Hanley. I just don't agree with the timing of it. My gripe in the previous post was about Cora implying that Hanley would become difficult to manage if he didn't get the playing time. There was no need for the FO to throw Hanley under the bus in order to cover their butts.
  13. I'd fire them if they can't perform their jobs to a certain standard.
  14. I understand the PR game and the whole CYA thing. I don't understand the need for the implication that Hanley would become a problem if his at bats were limited. Why the need to paint Hanley in a bad light? Now maybe he would have become difficult to manage, but maybe he wouldn't have. There is no indication that Hanley has been any kind of a problem since he returned to Boston. Either way, Cora should have just said that he didn't think he would be able to find the playing time for Hanley, and stopped right there.
  15. It's interesting to note that the GM and execs of other teams find the timing of Hanley's DFA questionable.
  16. Cora needs to get in an argument with Pom in the dugout after pulling him from a game. That's what turned his season around last year.
  17. I'm not sure that I would call it the biggest weakness in the sport, but I do agree that the home plate umpire greatly impacts the game. While umpires will never be perfect, I wholeheartedly believe that the number of missed calls and the subjectivity of the strike zones could be improved with better standards in hiring the umps and better checks in holding the umpires accountable.
  18. I really have no problem with people wanting to stick with what's more familiar or with what they are comfortable with. What I have a problem with is people denouncing/discrediting advanced metrics because they don't understand them or because the metric don't support the person's opinion. And that's basically what the denouncements come down to. My defense of advanced metrics is by no means an edict that everyone has to use advanced metrics. That said, I will continue to believe that one cannot get the most accurate assessment of a player without using them.
  19. Pom will get his next start. After that, it sounds like Wright will get the nod over Velazquez if Pom does not show any improvement.
  20. Torres is also the player that botched a play at 2nd that led to the Angels scoring, if I'm not mistaken. Thanks Theo!
