  1. Dombrowski did a great job for the immediate team. The thing is, it's likely that while we won't watch the Yankees run away with the AL East this year, we'll be watching them do that in 2 years. #thecliffisreal
  2. It appears that we did. I was fine with letting him go after how bad he was for the Sox, but he seems to have turned it around. Good for him.
  3. The good thing about Devers' slump is that is really hasn't hurt the team. As long as the team is playing well, the Sox can afford to be patient with him at the big league level. If the Sox were losing, I'd bet they would have less patience with him.
  4. Obviously, they can't say that they released him solely because of the option. But let's not fling all that BS around either. I don't like that they said Cora is the one who approached Dombrowski about getting rid of Hanley, whether there's any truth to that or not. IMO, that was completely unnecessary.
  5. The Sox are 10-1 in ERod starts. Soon to be 11-1 after tonight. Go Sox!!!
  6. This has nothing to do with anything here outside of the name 'Buch', but I just read that Pablo Sandoval took Clay Buchholz deep. That struck me as very funny. LOL
  7. I know I'm late to the party, but I wanted to give props to Wright for settling in very nicely after that rough beginning, and props to Vazquez for doing a great job of catching him.
  8. FYI, ESPN only has exclusive rights on Sunday Nights. So, even though they're broadcasting the game on Thursday, NESN and the Detroit station will be broadcasting the game as well. You don't have to listen to ESPN on Thursday, unless you can't get the game otherwise.
  9. Much to your dismay, Jacko, this is not a move that really hurts us though. Pom needed some time off, one way or another. He was pitching terribly. I can't imagine that Wright won't be an upgrade over what Pom was giving us.
  10. And then there's this, courtesy of Red Sox Stats: Hardest hit ball rank out of 417 players 5 117 Ramirez 39 114 Moreland 63 113 Devers 75 113 Martinez 84 112 Bradley 108 112 Bogaerts 156 111 Betts 169 110 Nunez 201 110 Benintendi 262 108 Swihart 319 107 Leon 346 106 Holt 362 105 Vazquez
  11. Thank you. And honestly, have you ever heard one of his teammates, past or present, say anything bad about him? I can understand why current teammates wouldn't want to throw him under the bus, but his former teammates all speak highly of him as well. If David Ross says that Pedroia is a leader and a great teammate, that's good enough for me.
  12. I am not trying to hate on Swihart here, but rather on management's very poorly handling of the entire situation. I like Swihart and always have. I hope he gets the reps he needs at catcher or elsewhere and can stick with our team.
  13. OTOH, the team is only 38-19 (.667) when Devers plays, but they are an undefeated 2-0 when Devers doesn't play.
  14. As far as Devers goes, patience, patience, patience.
  15. That's all that needs to be said.
  16. PA reported that Mookie hit off a tee today. He didn't say much else, but it sounds like Mookie is progressing.
  17. Thankfully for Hanley, there seems to a fair amount of interest in him.
  18. In a short sample, we have not been hurt by any lack of depth. Hopefully, we will have Mookie back soon and won't have to deal with extended injuries. Hanley had close to a .900 OPS in April. How do we know he wouldn't have rebounded from his slump? A slump that was fueled by a .156 BABIP, BTW. I'm not saying that he might not have been released eventually anyway. I just think it was too early in the season to let him go.
  19. Sorry, but Dombrowski and Cora do not get a free pass on this one. And I say that as a person who absolutely loves Cora.
  20. Cora said that he didn't think it was fair to have Swihart's first start as catcher be in a game catching a knuckleballer. I tend to agree with that decision. As I posted elsewhere, I would have Swihart catch Sale because I think Sale would be the least affected by throwing to a less defense oriented catcher.
  21. Andrew Marchand ‏Verified account @AndrewMarchand ESPN will televise Angels-Dodgers instead of Yankees-Blue Jays on July 8th’s Sunday Night Baseball. 5:51 PM - 5 Jun 2018 Jason Mastrodonato ‏Verified account @JMastrodonato 4m4 minutes ago Jason Mastrodonato Retweeted Andrew Marchand Alex Cora just now: "If they do that, then sometime down the road when somebody has to do it too, it’s going to come up, and if they do it for one team they have to do it for everybody." Right on Cora.
