  1. Stay healthy and take it one game at a time. That's the key. Don't get ahead of ourselves. It won't be easy, but I like us for the division.
  2. We have a winner. Beni has been much worse in CF than he has been in RF. JD has been slightly less worse in RF than he has been in CF. Mookie is Mookie. He's been better in RF, but he's the second best option that we have for a CFer.
  3. Of course any team would prefer HFA over not having it, but if it comes down to a choice between HFA or having players rested and healthy, I'm going with the latter.
  4. The years in which Ben's teams lost were not cliff years. The teams, on paper, were strong contenders. I realize that the games still need to be played, but the talent was there. There is a difference between having a contending team that doesn't make it for one reason or another versus having a team that has no chance before the season even starts.
  5. No, they're not meant to be decimated. Yes, they are meant to be used in trade, but that can be done without decimation.
  6. Throw out 2012 completely. It doesn't count. Yes, it stinks finishing in last place. However, neither of those teams should have been that bad. They were both projected to be contenders, and the 2014 team was the overwhelming favorite to win the division. In fact, since Henry bought the team, every team assembled has been projected to be a contender. That's really all you can ask of your GM (and your owner). The GM has done his job. Sometimes, with baseball being the fluky game that it is, things don't go according to plan. I can live with that. What I don't want happening is to know, going into the season, that your team has no chance. #thecliffisreal
  7. Completely agree.
  8. It's not a longing for Cherington, it's a longing for a strong farm system. The turnaround would have happened regardless of who was GM in 2016. The time was right for it to happen, not to mention both the 2014 and 2015 teams were better than they performed. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe it's possible to build a contender without decimating the farm. Overpaying for free agents or for players through trade doesn't impress me.
  9. The Yankees would be so shocked to see Price out there they won't know what to do.
  10. Having a well rested team is more important than playing for HFA.
  11. I guess I'm in the minority. I usually watch the All Star Game because I actually enjoy it.
  12. Let the stat geeks vote. They will do a better job than fans, managers/coaches, players, and writers.
  13. No complaints about this team from me either. If they stay healthy, they have as good a shot as anybody to win the WS.
  14. I agree. I really don't like losing one of our catching tandem. I posted a while back that I would let Swihart catch Sale. Sale is the guy that seems least likely to be affected by any shortcomings Swihart might have behind the plate. Either that or let Swihart catch Price. It can't get any worse than his last two starts, right? Maybe it will even have a reverse effect on Price.
  15. 1. Mookie Betts ® CF 2. Andrew Benintendi (L) LF 3. J.D. Martinez ® RF 4. Steve Pearce ® DH 5. Xander Bogaerts ® SS 6. Mitch Moreland (L) 1B 7. Eduardo Nunez ® 2B 8. Rafael Devers (L) 3B 9. Sandy Leon (S) C
  16. Actually, I think most people underrate defense.
  17. I am not sure what your point is.
  18. Defensive Runs Saved = -9 According to that stat, Devers has cost us one game defensively.
  19. Good post Nick. I would also like to point out that keeping Holt at $2.25 million is looking pretty good right now. There were very few who were on board with that move.
  20. Except Dave is not using a combination.
  21. There is no grief and no argument whatsoever about how great a job Dombrowski has done for the present. It's the impending cliff that some of us have a problem with.
  22. From a stats point of view, because I know how much you love them, Devers' range is fine (+1.4). His negative defensive ratings come from his errors (-4) and from turning double plays (-0.5). I completely agree that he will become a solid 3rd baseman.
  23. I'm not saying that Lucchino purposely drove Theo away or that he wanted Theo gone, but I do believe that his strong arm in baseball ops decisions led Theo to leaving. It was the root behind the gorilla suit fiasco.
  24. He probably knows more than we give him credit for, but his main goal was to make money. That can be a bad thing from a baseball ops point of view.
