  1. I'd prefer the A's because I just can't stand the Yankees.
  2. Good point on the psychodrama. Yet another reason to pull for the A's, as if we needed any more reason.
  3. If Cora is 100% sure of his health, then so am I.
  4. I imagine that Wright has to be helped out quite a bit by following guys like Sale or Price. He's been very good, but I'm not sure if he would be as effective if he had been starting those games.
  5. I posted earlier in the season that I wouldn't be surprised if Price were more dominant than Sale in September and October. I still feel that way, which is not a knock on Sale at all. I just like the way Price has been pitching. That said, Price starting at Yankee Stadium does not leave me that warm and fuzzy. But I like him in any other situation.
  6. Lin has already been sent to Ft. Myers to 'stay ready', meaning he is not on the roster unless someone else gets injured.
  7. IMO, Boone is making a mistake not starting Happ in this game. He is already looking ahead to the ALDS. If the Yankees beat the A's, it will look like a great move. However, if it backfires, the Yankees go home. The stakes are too high. You can't risk being eliminated with your best starter sitting on the bench, being saved for a series that might never come.
  8. I would be willing to give Eovaldi a 2 year contract. Someone will offer him more than that. I am fully on board with signing Clay to a minor league deal.
  9. Also, I believe Price is going to be our postseason ace.
  10. I, OTOH, would be shocked if he got lit up.
  11. It does seem like the Yankees often follow up a walk with a home run, doesn't it? The good news is, Sale has the 7th lowest BB/9 and the 2nd lowest HR/9 among starters in the AL.
  12. I am pretty sure that I read somewhere that Eovaldi would be available out of the pen in Game 1, even if he is starting Game 4, which would be the case if we play the Yankees. Wright is definitely another option.
  13. I would absolutely sign him for a reasonable, short term deal.
  14. It's too bad we don't have Hanley.
  15. For those who are interested, the NL will play two tiebreaker games tomorrow. The Cubs will host the Brewers at 1:05. The Dodgers will host the Rockies at 4:09. Both games will be on ESPN.
  16. It's amazing how Jacko always has to work when the Red Sox beat the Yankees.
  17. Even though the game did not mean anything, this was a nice way to end the regular season. It is also nice to win the season series.
  18. This game was a reality check for the Yankees fans, who were getting a little too full of themselves for no reason whatsoever. When the game counts, the Sox are there!
  19. The concern is justified. The panic over our postseason chances is not. Even if Sale is not 100% back by Game 1, IMO, he will still be very good. He might not pitch a 7 or 8 inning shutout, but he'll be good enough to keep the team in the game. If he just doesn't have it, then I believe Eovaldi will be available out of the pen for a few innings in Game 1, and he has been sharp against that unmentionable team.
  20. I get all that. I'm talking about whether the team with HFA has a strong advantage of winning a series in the postseason. They don't. There is a slight advantage, so all other things being equal, you'd want to have it. But it's not as large an advantage as most people think it is. I don't remember the exact % off the top of my head.
  21. Yes, we do. But Cora was smart in resting our players and keeping them healthy, over worrying about clinching HFA. If you can have both, then even better. That said, while you want to have a Game 5 or a Game 7 in your home park, if the visiting team wins just 1 of the first 2 games, then "HFA" shifts to the away team, and it might be Game 4 or Game 5 that is the clincher. There are times that I really feel like I'd rather start a series on the road, especially in the ALDS.
  22. I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt earlier, but clearly you are a Yankees troll. At least have the courage not to masquerade as a Red Sox fan.
  23. Meh. We didn't even really need Sale this year.
  24. How a team plays in the month or week before the playoffs has no correlation to winning in the postseason, unless the team played poorly due to injury. This is even more so when a team clinches so early that the games are virtually meaningless. The single factor that correlates the strongest with postseason winning is, oddly enough, regular season W-L record. Even with that, the playoffs are still a crapshoot. Throw all that other stuff, like momentum, out the window. As you said in your following post, it won't be easy, but I Iike our chances.
  25. NY beats Oakland Boston 3-0 against NY Houston 4-3 against Cleveland Boston 4-0 against Houston Boston 4-0 against "It matters not" 11-0 baby!
