  1. Maybe Kimmi and Cora are one and the same.
  2. After seeing CC's reaction, I would have bunted against him whenever it made sense to do so.
  3. I am really interested to see how Dombrowski and Henry handle things next offseason. It would be nice to have Moncada back, but that championship flag will fly forever.
  4. IMO, the only thing Dombrowski needs to do is strengthen the BP and add some minor league depth pieces. The position players, including catcher, are set, as is the rotation. Don't go messing with things just to make a change. We're good to go as is.
  5. My guess would be that the other is Bogaerts.
  6. I get the feeling that Kelly will be returning to Boston. I've read that his teammates really want him back.
  7. That's an interesting thought about using Buchholz as a reliever.
  8. Maybe this is the year that ERod finally breaks out and puts it all together, health and performance wise...
  9. I think it's a combination of his postseason performance and the idea that using him in the bullpen would keep him healthier. IMO, if a pitcher is good enough to be a solid starter, he should be a starter. They are much more difficult to find than relievers are.
  10. Agree. Swihart deserves a chance to get some regular playing time elsewhere. It's too bad we can't make him a super utility type. I like the guy.
  11. Even when there was room for him on the roster, Cora seemed rather reluctant to start play him for some reason.
  12. Thank goodness someone finally came to their senses about the start time. I'm surprised they aren't making any changes to their crew. They have to know how terrible the reviews have been.
  13. I also think he would be able to produce if he were given some regular playing time. I really like the idea of having that 3rd catcher on our roster, but sadly, I don't think Swihart will be given the playing time to warrant a spot on the 25 man roster, unless Leon or Vaz is traded. I think it's time to cut bait with Swihart.
  14. From what I've read today, many teams were looking to sign Eovaldi as a closer, but his preference is to be a starting pitcher. I'm not sure he would have signed with Boston if their intent was to put him in the BP. That being the case, I think our focus is on relievers. I would love to sign another SP. Outside of depth pieces, I don't see that happening.
  15. Well I'm not paying a relief pitcher that much.
  16. It all depends on the cost, of course. But Ottavino did rank very high in quality of contact, 2nd out of 224 relief pitchers, behind only Leclerc, per Red Sox Stats.
  17. Stat geekes are a convenient and easy target for fans and agents.
  18. It's a shame because it cheapens the HOF for those who are truly worth of being in.
  19. Yup.
  20. I was actually on board with Pedroia's contract. I felt like he was signing for a bit of a hometown discount and the contract was a win for both sides. But once again, we can see why long term contracts are not advisable.
  21. It is more cost effective to sign a SP than a closer, but then if you use that SP as a closer it becomes less cost effective. IMO, we need Eovaldi in the rotation more than we need him in the BP. I did say unless health dictated otherwise. If Eovaldi is healthy enough to give us close to 200 innings, then he provides more value to us in the rotation. If the Sox deem it necessary to move him to the pen to preserve his health, then I'd be okay with that.
  22. According to Boras, the stat geeks have ruined free agency.
  23. We need Eovaldi in the rotation. I wouldn't use him as a closer unless his health or his performance dictated it. If the season started today, I'd go with Barnes as the closer.
  24. I don't think that's part of the problem that most people have, I think that's the entire problem. If Clay had not played with the Red Sox in the past, I think people would be more open to signing him to a minor league deal.
