  1. The Rocket was my first baseball idol in the late 80s and early 90s, and being a young, impressionable teenage girl, my first baseball crush. It's a shame that his career and reputation took the turn that it did.
  2. JD was one of Dombrowski's best moves. Dombrowski had an almost flawless 2018. If he could continue making moves like he did this year, I would be his biggest fan. I would probably even have to change my Theo > Ben > Dave hierarchy.
  3. Do the Astros have a closing window?
  4. It's not playing it safe, it's playing it smart. Taking risks is one thing. As you said, every contract is a risk. Being stupid is an entirely different thing. Are you calling Dombrowski stupid?
  5. No more than 3 years for Eovaldi. That said, I'd prefer that over a 5 year deal for Kimbrel.
  6. I would feel pretty good about our team's chances of repeating if we did nothing. That said, I don't think that anyone is suggesting that we do nothing. Of course all moves carry risks. Making a move to counter what the Yankees have done would not be good baseball sense. Making a move that involves a bad contract to counter what the Yankees have done would be even worse baseball sense. We need to make moves based on our needs and based on good baseball decisions, not based on trying to outdo the Yankees. Dombrowski is not going to sit tight. I am confident that he will add, at minimum, a starter and a closer.
  7. I don't think the Mets got 'fleeced' on this, but I do think that they overpaid to get Diaz by taking on most of Cano's contract. We'll see how Cano ends up performing for the remainder of his contract.
  8. I don't follow the Mets closely enough to know what's going on there, but I almost never hear anything good about their FO. I'm glad I'm not a Mets fan.
  9. I would not sign him as a closer. I'd sign him with the intent that he would be in our rotation. But if something happened where he wasn't effective in the rotation or we needed to limit his innings for health reasons, then he is one who could be a very effective late inning guy.
  10. The Fenway dirt is pretty cool. It's something different. I'll have to try the 'fan pack' thing.
  11. My wanting him back is not based on his postseason performance, but rather on his regular season performance. He did post a 2.2 fWAR, along with a 3.81 ERA and a 3.60 FIP. His numbers once he came to Boston are better. Not great, but good enough for the back end of our rotation. If he falters in the rotation, he could end up being a valuable bullpen piece. That said, I would not sign him for more than 3 years.
  12. LOL I have not, but he's always been a 'hefty' guy. His legs are like tree trunks.
  13. Add him to my list, along with Hanley and Buchholz. Also, Kevin Millar.
  14. Exactly.
  15. It was a Christmas gift, as is much of my Red Sox stuff. It comes packaged in a little bottle. For all I know, it could be dirt from just about anywhere. LOL Who knows if it's actually authentic or not, though it says "MLB Authenticated". I also have a pen that is filled with Fenway dirt.
  16. Yeah, I saw that. SMH
  17. LOL Northern Star
  18. I am pretty much in agreement with this. I understand how you feel about waiting for everything to play out. It drives me crazy.
  19. Wanting a player and disliking a bad deal to get the player are two different things. It's okay for fans to really want a player like Diaz, and then turn around and criticize a deal that was made for him. FTR, I don't think the Mets were fleeced, that is with my understanding that the Mariners are sending $60 mil to the Mets. But if the Mets are taking on most of Cano's salary, then IMO, it's a bad deal for them. If the Mets win the World Series, it will be worth it.
  20. You really have to wonder what is going on in the minds of the parents. I imagine this girl dealt with a lot of teasing and joking while growing up.
  21. I'm hoping Eovaldi really wants to return to Boston after the way the fans and especially the players treated him like a hero last year. Maybe he'll take a bit of a discount to return. I'm hopeful that if the offers are close, he'll choose Boston. That said, my preference for signing him would be no more than 3 years.
  22. I'm confused about the Mets. Are they trying to win this year or are they trying to rebuild? They just traded prospects to get Diaz and Cano, which sounds like a move for the present. If that's the case, then trading Syndegaard would not make much sense.
  23. I loved Varitek and always felt like he was underrated defensively. I would still have him on my team today, if it were possible.
  24. Depth, depth, depth, and more depth.
