  1. Our second half schedule last season was also very daunting, according to you, and the Yankees were going to run away with the division. You need to stop.
  2. There is value in making a pitcher throw a lot of pitches. There is more value in getting on base. Getting a starter out of the game early is not as important as it once was.
  3. Correct. Also, the out is the most precious commodity in a baseball game. The ability not to make one is huge, especially for the guy who will get more at bats during the season than anyone else in the line up.
  4. I have to disagree with you. The single most important criteria for a leadoff hitter is to get on base. If he can do so while making the pitcher throw 6 or 7 pitches, then even better. But it is better for the leadoff guy to get on base and only see two pitches than it is for him to see 6 or 7 pitches and not get on base.
  5. You seem to be mistaking me with someone who has some control over the Sox payroll.
  6. I respect O'Neill for this decision as well.
  7. Yeah, probably the Red Sox.
  8. Players often choose to be uprooted because they are going after the money. I understand that sometimes it's beyond a player's control. But many free agents could stay with their current team if they were willing to leave some money on the table. These players would still be set for life, many times over.
  9. Hopefully, some of our younger players will be ready to step in an provide the team with some cost control.
  10. I'm wondering what Kimbrel and Keuchel are holding out for. I'm also wondering what types of offers have been made. In other words, which party is being unreasonable in his or their expectations.
  11. Second that.
  12. The Yanks were scary good on paper last season too. Just remember, we have our secret weapon in Alex Cora, while you have your kryptonite in Aaron Boone.
  13. Well played.
  14. Find him!
  15. Back^4
  16. Saying this over and over will not make it come true.
  17. Every player is concerned with money, but not every player is concerned with getting the most money at the expense of other considerations. I am concerned with getting the most money I can possibly get, but I'm not uprooting my family to do so.
  18. As I've said, he is entitled to go for as much money as he possibly can. I don't like it, but that's his right. I would like nothing more than for Mookie to be a lifelong Red Sox, and I will be happy if the Sox keep him, but if it's up to me, I'm not paying him that kind of money.
  19. Of course the team is doing some evaluation. The performances are meaningless in terms of how they will relate to regular season performances.
  20. Good for Dave. Seriously.
  21. Colten Brewer - Soon to be 2018 Red Sox closer.
  22. Until the real games start, meaningless.
  23. Dustin Pedroia - 2019 Comeback Player of the Year
  24. It's been done, many times over. The correlation between spring training W-L record and regular season W-L record is rather weak, at best.
  25. IMO, Devers was brought up too early. He could have used some extra time in the minors to work on his defense. Instead, he is having to hone his defensive skills while in the majors, which is more difficult to do. I think we'll see improvement this year.
