  1. !!!
  2. I don't think it would be a bad PR look. His involvement with the Astros wasn't as bad as officially reported.
  3. Because letting Cora go was due to his part in the Astros cheating scandal. Cora was not found guilty of any wrongdoing with the Sox. If Cora had been found guilty of cheating with the Sox, then he should not come back. But that's not the case. Cora is serving his punishment for what he did with the Astros. Once he serves that, he should be given another opportunity with the Sox.
  4. Is Cora baggage though? I understand that GMs like to bring in 'their guy' as a manager, but why can't Cora also be Bloom's guy? To me, Cora seems like a Bloom type of guy.
  5. I don't really think Cora felt a lot of ill will towards the FO after they let him go. Cora understands that it was the right thing to do.
  6. That is very probable. I'm sure there will be many teams that would be happy to have Cora. I think that Cora would want to return to the Sox. I have no way of knowing for sure, but that's the feeling I get about it. Some of the decision might depend on how Roenicke does with the team this year. The players and management might decide they like Roenicke better. Roenicke might lead us to a World Series this year.
  7. I don't mind interleague at all. In fact, I like it. I like seeing players from teams that we don't get to see very often. That said, the two leagues need to be uniform about DH versus no DH. I prefer the DH, but I could deal with the pitchers batting as long as the rule is the same in both leagues.
  8. I understand that the players don't want to be isolated from their families for 4 months, but I think I like the proposal to play in a few stadiums in AZ better than this new proposal. This keeps the players quarantined and eliminates the travel, which seems much safer in terms of keeping the disease from spreading. As you alluded to, we are not at the point where any of these decisions can be made with any certainty.
  9. I have always thought that the Sox should have re-signed Porcello. I am disappointed that they didn't.
  10. Red Sox Stats @redsoxstats · 10h The projected talent distribution in the proposed 10 team eastern division. In terms of team WAR, the Sox are #5 in this new division. The Yankees are definitely the favorites, while the Os remain pathetic. With that said, a shortened season can change the outcome of what would typically happen in a full season. Pitchers can be used differently, which could be an advantage for a starting pitching challenged team, like the Sox. Don't count the Sox out!
  11. It's possible, but the players not being in isolation and the travel, although limited, concern me. That said, if they're talking about a late June or early July start, the coronavirus should be in pretty good check by then. I'm not sure I like the format though. We'd be playing the same 9 teams over and over. I'd like to get a look at some of the other top teams like the Dodgers and Astros.
  12. Roenicke was the right choice for the Sox under the circumstances. They had little time to search for a replacement, Roenicke knows the players and there is a sense of continuity and comfort between players and manager, and it was unknown what the outcome of the sign stealing scandal would be. It will now be easy to bring Cora back if that's what the Sox choose to do.
  13. I had no issues with Farrell, though I liked him better as a pitching coach. Tito would be my first choice, Cora my second.
  14. LOL about the staff development days. I'll just say that I can find better ways to spend my time. When I retire, it will be odd not having the end of August and beginning of September associated with returning to school. I've had that association nearly my entire life.
  15. I wish him the best. Cancer is such a cruel disease.
  16. I enjoyed the episodes of the show. That said, I'm not sure I could join in on the fanboy talk.
  17. LOL 5GG. I have to admit that it's difficult to get psyched up to return to school, but once we get going and I'm back in the routine, it's fine. It's kind of like Monday mornings. LOL Don't get me wrong, I love teaching. However, if given the choice of not working while still getting paid or working, I'm going with the first choice. I don't understand those who say that they would continue to work if they won the lottery. Increased fluid intake during baseball? It's a good thing to drink lots of water while playing!
  18. I'm guessing it's a combination of both the weather and the kids being thrown together, but there really does seem to be a huge spike in colds among students and teachers in early fall, much more so than the constant cases of colds throughout late fall and winter. There is growing optimism among the baseball folks that baseball will happen sometime in June/July. Without fans, but it's better than nothing.
  19. I did not know that. This supports my statement that I have no scientific expertise. So, it's not the distance, but just the tilt. Either way, the UV rays are stronger in the summer, yes?
  20. Yes, spending more time outdoors helps too. I know that every fall, after about a month back in school, there is an outbreak of colds among students and teachers. Presumably, that's from everyone being back together in enclosed spaces.
  21. I think much of it has to do with UV rays and the sun being closer to us during the summer. COVID-19 might be different, but if I'm not mistaken, every other flu and similar virus doesn't fare well in the summer. In my expert medical/scientific opinion, of which there is none, it would be odd that this virus is that different.
  22. I'm in VA. The weather here has been cool, cloudy, rainy, and windy for the most part. Where's the nice sunny spring weather??? I can't believe how cheap gas is right now. Of course, it's cheap when not many people are driving anywhere. ESPN is supposedly close to a deal to air KBO games live. That will give us something to watch in the meantime. I'll have to find a team to root for.
  23. Good deal! I'm glad you were able to get a few games in before the shutdown. When we go to the Tides games here, it's the same thing. We don't know many players and we don't really have a vested interest in either team unless they're playing the Pawsox, but we have a good time nonetheless.
  24. There is nothing wrong with not being a fan of sabermetrics. Many people are not, and that's okay. OTOH, discounting the validity of advanced stats is a whole other story. (That's not directed at you, but in general.)
