  1. Yes, but it is not during the play of the game, like robot umps would be. It's used to strategize, as I said in a previous post. I know that stats influence every aspect of sports, but that is different than dehumanizing the game by replacing an aspect of the game with technology.
  2. Ha. You are speaking nonsense again.
  3. I think he really, really likes doing taxes. LOL
  4. You can absolutely just watch baseball for the fun of it. No one is making you use stats in any way that you don't want to. For me, stats make the game more enjoyable. I'm not looking up stats during the game (usually), I'm watching and enjoying the game just like you do. My enjoyment in stats comes when studying or discussing the games either before or after they occur.
  5. Not at all. Stats are not being used during play. They are used either beforehand to strategize or afterwards to assess.
  6. Watching pitchers shake off and and get inside their own heads is part of the enjoyment of baseball.
  7. Hi Max! I know that technology is out there and prevalent, I just feel like the less technology used in game the better. Stop dehumanizing everything.
  8. You don't think someone will be able to intercept the other team's frequency? Also, as with replay and robot umps, just say no.
  9. Makes sense. The next question is whether they had axes to grind with the Sox.
  10. I'm sure you are right about that. I wonder if it's 3 people who were no longer with the team when they blew the whistle.
  11. As long as teams are not using technology, I don't really see anything wrong with trying to figure out the other team's signs. It's all part of the cat and mouse strategy that goes into playing and managing a game.
  12. I wonder who the informant was. It doesn't sound like the informant had very reliable information. I agree that Manfred does not want to have to deal with any more sign stealing allegations.
  13. Sounds like a feasible solution. It's another use of technology that I'm not sure I'm in favor of. Sign stealing is a part of the game that has been going on forever. With the earpieces, sooner or later someone would likely find a way to intercept those conversations. If they did, sign stealing would be even easier. No guessing or decoding involved.
  14. MLB is trying to push this under the rug, hoping it will go away, rather than acknowledging that cheating is a widespread problem throughout the league.
  15. David Ortiz says Red Sox sign stealing penalties were unfair: ‘It’s what everybody’s doing in the league right now’ I'm still not convinced of any wrongdoing by Watkins or the Sox, but if they were guilty, they deserve to be punished, and the penalties were fair. However, why aren't all the other teams being investigated and equally punished?
  16. I'm glad that they finally released their report and also very happy with the outcome. One of the things that bothered me the most is how players of other teams kept whining how they were cheated out of the playoffs or out of a championship. Hogwash. The other teams are just as guilty, or in many cases, even more guilty (I'm looking at you CC Sabathia).
  17. Because they're the Yankees. That's all the reason that is needed.
  18. We can hope that this will be the case. According to current projections, we should be pretty much past the virus by July 1. I am still thinking that July may be a little early to allow fans to the games, but it might be possible.
  19. Solid post Oldtimer. I agree 100%. I am glad that I am not the one making the decisions for any of our states or for our country right now.
  20. Watkins is being punished for being really good at his job. I'm not sure how or why the Sox were investigated to begin with, but really, this whole thing amounted to nothing but a big waste of time and money.
  21. Nothing is wrong with you. Priorities and interests change with the circumstances.
  22. Under no circumstances should any sports return if it can't be done relatively safely. That said, I miss baseball. I realize that there are far more important things in life, but there's nothing wrong with missing baseball or other sports. Despite what some people might say or think, I do think that having sports return would be a morale booster to many people.
  23. The consensus around the league is that whatever the Sox were found guilty of is very widespread throughout the league. I understand what the charges are, but I'm still not sure Watkins was guilty of doing anything other than his job. He was able to decode sequences during the game, as opposed to having to wait until the game was over, but supposedly wasn't sharing that information with players during the game.
  24. !!! As I said before, I bet the Yankees were guiltier than the Sox.
