  1. I have never been happy with Mookie's stance that he was going to test free agency, presumably to get the most money that he can. That type of thinking just doesn't sit well with me. It's absolutely his right to do so, but I don't agree with. There are things that should be prioritized over money, especially when you're already going to make hundreds of millions either way. Mookie not being your son's hero anymore has as much (or more) to do with Mookie than it does with the Sox.
  2. I don't disagree with that. What I disagree with is people saying that the Sox screwed this up.
  3. Clay Buchholz anyone? He could seriously be very good out of the pen.
  4. I do like our pen. I think it should be pretty good. Workman will not be as good as last year, but hopefully he won't regress too much and will still be a solid closer. I'm not sure what to think about Brasier. I'm not pinning a lot of hopes on him. IMO, Barnes is a very good reliever, much better than most people give him credit for. I like him for late innings, whether it be the 8th or 9th. When Taylor and Hernandez return from their COVID recovery, that will deepen and strengthen the pen a good deal, particularly Hernandez. His peripherals play a lot better than 4.45 ERA, just like with Barnes. Then there's a slew of 2nd line guys, as you put it. Someone (or two) in that crowd will step it up.
  5. Buffalo Blue Jays has a nice ring to it.
  6. LOL I'd take it! If he can pitch, he's in. We don't need pitchers who can cover 1st base (I'm looking at you ERod).
  7. Another Os pitcher who has not been very good of late. However, I did read that he has been working on his sinker, so he might be improved over last year. Regardless, I like our chances! Let's go!
  8. It was just the Os, but we did dominate, not just squeak by. That's a good sign. The offense, as expected against the crappy O's pitching, showed no mercy. More importantly, IMO, Eovaldi looked very good. One win in the bag! Woohoo!
  9. It is my opinion that Mookie is the one that was being unreasonable, not the Red Sox.
  10. I disagree that it was the Sox who were 'at fault' here. If they offered Mookie $150 mil or something along those lines, that would be one thing. They offered him $310 million and he Mookie it down. There's not a whole lot that you can do about that. $310 million for 10 years is crazy enough. Going any higher would be just plain stupid. The Sox did the right thing in trading Mookie, rather than giving him a contract that they would soon come to deeply regret.
  11. My opinion all along is that the bullpen will be good, and because of that, this shortened season will play well for us.
  12. No doubt. I don't disagree with any of that. IMO, once Mookie turned down the Sox' offer, the Sox knew that they would not be signing Mookie long term. I don't think there was ever any serious intention of trading him then re-signing him as a free agent.
  13. I'm sure the $310 offer was not still on the table. The point was that the Sox did make a serious offer. And yes, times are very different now. That is why I can't believe the Dodgers gave Mookie that contract. Color me shocked.
  14. Good questions, to which I don't know the answer. I guess that depends on how well the players follow guidelines, which is also the case with the general population.
  15. Geez, define 'serious effort'. The Sox supposedly offered Mookie $310 million in 2018 to stay with the Sox. If that's not a serious offer, I don't know what is. The ball might have been in Boston's court, but Mookie also had to be reasonable on his end. I don't think that Mookie was in a hurry to get out of Boston. I think he wanted to receive the largest contract given to date. He got that with the Dodgers (and I'm still in shock about it), but I also think that the pandemic played a huge part in Mookie agreeing to a deal before reaching free agency.
  16. This is a fair point. Many in the Red Sox media and fan base would have crucified him. I have never understood all the hatred for Price, and I'm one who was against his signing/contract before it happened. IMO, he never got a fair shake while in Boston. If I were able to afford it financially, I would opt out of my job for a year to protect my family and myself.
  17. I figured as much. LOL
  18. Once again, I agree. A cliff can't necessarily be measured by what happens on the field, but rather how the team looks on paper going into the season. I realize that the on field results are what matters, but strange things happen that are out of the GM's control.
  19. I agree. This year could be considered a cliff year, but if the Sox are able to reset the penalty (ie the season gets played to at least August 1), then we should be good going forward.
  20. For me, if a team should have contended but for some strange reason did not, that can't be considered a cliff. That can't be put on the GM.
  21. The Red Sox are in. Book it.
