  1. Congrats to Lucas Giolito for throwing a no hitter last night, striking out 13 in the process. It's refreshing to see, especially after just talking about how starting pitchers can barely make it past 5 innings these days. Add the White Sox to the list of teams doing surprisingly well this season. They may be set to do very well for several years.
  2. I hate trade deadlines, even in this very shortened season.
  3. I am thrilled with the 6:30 start times in this series.
  4. I am not giving up on Beni. My call would be not to trade him.
  5. I agree with your first four sentences. Bloom will not be signing any shiny new toys for 2021. After that, your post is mostly hogwash.
  6. There is no need for Holt on this team right now.
  7. Cherington went the route of signing veteran players for shorter team deals while he was rebuilding. It worked to perfection in 2013, not so much in '14 and '15. But despite the poor results in those latter two years, on paper, I felt that he fielded competitive teams all 3 years during the process of rebuilding. There is no reason that Bloom can't do the same. It takes guys like Moreland and his short contract to do so. Personally, I wouldn't trade JD either.
  8. Aren't they getting around that with the 'Player to be Named Later' deal?
  9. Completely agree with both you and Connie Mack. The value of the starting pitcher has gone down.
  10. Chavis has been one of the most frustrating players of late. That said, it's too soon to give up on him. His peripherals do not bode well for him, but it's still a small sample. If there's a trade that makes sense, then you do it. But don't trade him based on less than a season's worth of play. I say this as someone who has never been fully able to get on the Chavis bandwagon due to his earlier PEDs violation.
  11. If starting pitchers are only going to pitch 5 innings or fewer a game, it's time for a salary reduction.
  12. That is likely true. There is still some disconnect there for me.
  13. Number 4 and 5 starters don't come that cheap.
  14. Not necessarily. If a GM is blowing the team up and not planning to contend in the next year or two, he may trade players away for next to nothing. And when I say the trade has to be 'worthwhile', I mean it has to be a clear win for the Red Sox.
  15. Agreed. Even if you have to up the dollar amount a little bit.
  16. I suppose that's true. I'm thinking about figure skaters (female in this case), who not too long ago were completing double jumps when at the top of their games. These days, it's hard to compete if you're not doing a quad. That seems like an unnatural strain on one's body.
  17. The good news is, it does appear that baseball will make it to the trade deadline date. It did not look so good early on.
  18. He is the Tim Wakefield of the position players. LOL I love Moreland and have been on board with every one of the contracts the Sox have given him.
  19. Possibly, but there is no reason to trade him if the return doesn't make it worthwhile.
  20. If the return on either of those players is something we can't pass us, then we should trade them. But we shouldn't trade them just for the sake of trading them. As I said, I believe the team can be competitive in 2021.
  21. That may be the case, but if that is your concern, Holt would also take bats away from Arauz.
  22. You and I are on the same page here Oldtimer. I don't like seeing some of our players get traded, but I acknowledge that it is the right thing to do. I can't see Henry being willing to punt next season. He and Bloom will try to field a competitive team, which means we can't trade away everyone who won't be on the roster after 2021. I'd like to keep Moreland and Perez.
  23. Good point about Perez being a Bloom signing. I just can't see Henry blowing the whole team up and punting next season. He and Bloom will try to stay competitive while building at the same time. They have to keep some of these fairly inexpensive guys. It would have to be a clear win in the trade to move someone like Perez.
  24. I am a hugger. Virtual hugs to all!
  25. That makes sense.
