  1. Agreed. I also think having Cora back will be a big help.
  2. He could be a touch pessimistic. IMO, he usually tells it like it is, and I am not a pessimistic person.
  3. Jared Carrabis @jared_Carrabis · 42m A baseball team hiring Dave Dombrowski to win a championship when they have no money is like a publishing company hiring Aaron Judge to write a book about his World Series experiences. Carrabis can tweak the Yankees with the best of them. Bonus in this tweet - he gets in a nice shot at Dombrowski as well.
  4. I don't follow the Phillies closely enough to know what they're doing, but I read that the Phillies are not spending this offseason and that they are not anywhere close to contending. I don't know what their farm system looks like, but the 'win now' philosophy doesn't seem appropriate for this team.
  5. Yikes!
  6. Very thorough and well thought out roster. You had me at "Porcello". LOL
  7. Merloni often has an unpopular view of things, but he's also often right in his views.
  8. I never said there was anything wrong with it.
  9. Lou Merloni @loumerloni · I think Sox would love to bring Jackie back. I don’t think Jackie wants any part of returning IMO That's a shame, if true. I want Jackie back as much as anybody, but I don't want him back if he doesn't want to be here.
  10. Some of you have too much time on your hands.
  11. And there is a lot of value in providing innings.
  12. Obviously, pitching should be the primary focus, by far. I have no clue what the Sox payroll budget looks like for this offseason, but my feeling is to go relatively cheap on CF and 2B, and use whatever resources we have on pitching. I think our position players will be fine. Our pitching could be fine as well, but there are an awful lot of question marks surrounding the rotation.
  13. I am on board with this. Once again, focus on pitching, pitching, and more pitching.
  14. I am, and have always been, on the Porcello bandwagon with you.
  15. My only complaint about the Eovaldi contract was the 4th year. As a person who thinks most contracts are too long, I was not unhappy with the Eovaldi contract.
  16. Re-sign JBJ on a short term deal, and have Beni, JBJ, and Verdugo from left to right. Focus on pitching, pitching, and more pitching.
  17. I am sure that Yankees (and most other teams) can afford whatever/whomever they want. That said, I am a little bothered by any team that has laid of everyday regular type employees because of the 'need to cut costs', then goes out and spends tens or hundreds of millions on players who don't need the money. I'm still not happy about Sale getting his TJS during a crisis. OK, end of rant.
  18. I don't have the time to research other teams thoroughly enough to know who might be available. However, I am confident that Bloom and the FO are spending countless hours considering every possible trade scenario out there. He's going to have to get creative. It's been a slow and boring offseason so far, but I think we'll end up being pleased with the product that Bloom puts on the field in 2021.
  19. ERod is the man.
  20. Plus, don't count out the Cora factor.
  21. Rather than spending in free agency, I've read that the Sox might be interested in taking some of those contracts off of other team's hands, in order to get some return in prospects as well. Finding the right trade partner is the challenge. Bumgarner's name came up as a possibility. All speculation, of course.
  22. Mookie is just as much to blame, even more so in my opinion, than ownership or the FO is for us losing him. The FO made Mookie a more than reasonable and more than respectable offer. To counter with $420 mil is kind of a slap in the face, if you ask me.
  23. 1. First off, my whole argument is not about the ability to sign Mookie, per se, because I never wanted him signed for that contract to begin with. In that regard, Dombrowski did us a huge favor. My concern is with the current lack of flexibility, either financially or with prospects, to improve our team. Note: I'm not saying that it can't be done, just that we have very little flexibility to do it. 2. Ben had some bad contracts on the book, at least one of which I do not believe was his doing. Regardless, while he may have contributed to our 2020 financial constraints, he at least had a farm system. You can better afford to tie your hands financially if you have the farm system. The farm system has always been my #1 gripe with Dombrowski.
  24. I am with Notin on this one. On a related topic, I really hope the Sox re-sign ERod. He is the anti-Mookie when it comes to free agency and new contracts. He's the kind of player I want on my team - someone who really wants to be here and isn't necessarily just looking for the largest amount of money. Get it done Bloom.
