  1. Hopefully until he can hit again.... ;-)
  2. Best case scenario, at this point. Let him figure it out without killing the team.
  3. Maybe he'll take drop his pants to tuck his shirt in in the booth.
  4. Here is Pete Abraham's 10-point plan to fix the Sox. Sounds good to me, covers a lot of items we've been talking about... http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/05/23/step-plan-for-fixing-red-sox/aPRyRRNPr2dbztbvNzFzZL/story.html
  5. With shoulder pain, apparently. Insert snarky comments below.
  6. Well, now that Ross is Lester's personal catcher, this ain't happening.
  7. No, he will be an unrestricted FA in 2015, no qualifying offer, no draft pick tied to him.
  8. He was brought in really to solidify the left side of the infield. With the revolving door at third base, the production was terrible there, so now you get consistent production from both positions. I didn't say 'high' production, just consistent. The pitchers are happy as they now have their WS-winning infield. It doesn't fix the offense but goes a long way to getting a more consistent defense and line-up. And Drew is a better hitter than anyone that was playing 3B this year. Certainly better situationally, and he did hit 13 homers last year (and he bats .283 in Fenway). So it's really a smart move on a couple of different levels.
  9. Maybe Webster or Ranaudo ought to come up as well..... http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=t_ibp&cid=533&stn=true&sid=t533
  10. Re: Middlebrooks - more seasoning is needed, and now he can spend the rest of the season in Pawtucket getting healthy and working on hitting a freaking breaking ball. Maybe take a course in Plate Discipline as well. No reason to trade or give up on him at this point. He's a quality guy with power potential.
  11. Well, I'll disagree with the 'Boston is not a player development franchise' statement, to a certain extent - we HAVE developed plenty of players - Pedroia, Lester, Buchholz, Doubront, Ellsbury, Papelbon, etc. Lots more. But just not so many at once on the MLB roster. With Drew coming back, I think they can afford to keep JBJr starting and see what happens. He hit in the minors, and Pedroia, in his rookie year, started to hit around this time after a LOT of heat on Francona to sit him down. I have to admit that I thought I would be a lot more patient than I have been, to this point. I'm sick of the losing, although happy that no one else in the division has run away with it. But I think with the left-side infield stabilized assuming they move XB to third) things will get better. Drew isn't going to hit the cover of the ball, but he was a pretty good situational hitter and solid defender. I agree re: Workman but suspect they would dump Doubront before Buchholz.
  12. Strange that Bora$ wouldn't have waited a few more days for the draft, after which Drew could sign anywhere w/no compensation impact. Guess the market wasn't quite what he thought. So does he play short and X-man move to third?
  13. No details yet, heard that CBS Sports is reporting this..... Wow.
  14. I'm not a Sandoval fan either. He's in his contract year and he is sucking in the NL - why do we think he'd be better in the AL East? He'd be a short-term rental, but we'd probably have to give up at least one quality minor league arm and maybe a position player as well.... Too short-term for me. Headley, I'd be more interested in but again, he is sucking in the NL this year. He's actually only had one decent year, in 2012, I think.
  15. I really don't see the Sox doing wholesale dumpage at the deadline. That's not who they are. I see them continuing to tinker around the edges and assume that they pitching will rebound and the offense will return to norms, and maybe add a bat if they can. I certainly an't envision them being sellers and trading Lester or any of the other starters, with the possible exception of Doubront.
  16. I gotta believe that ship has sailed. I'd almost rather see them bring up Cecchini (sp?) than re-sign Drew.
  17. Maybe but Buchy has just a bit more upside than Peavy...! I'm thinking he will get much better by June.
  18. Maybe we can trade joeycaps for Joey Bats...
  19. But Sizemore is barely above the Mendoza line so not sure how that supports your request for more offense.
  20. Workman to replace Peavy.
  21. Really need to dump him and bring up Workman or Owens. Can they really be worse than Peavy? He's got nothing except a duck boat these days.
  22. This team is just bad right now. I hope it's just a collective slump. But I fear it isn't.
  23. Yeah downer for sure. Granted, facing Scherzer, but no spark in the lineup and the bottom third is just a dead zone right now. Night all.
  24. Holy s***, is that Joba? Wow... Might need to change my name...
  25. Me too. Why not pull him and get some ice on it?
