    I don't think baseball can be totally turned into numbers. I do believe in the existence of the 'clutch hitter' but I also think that they mostly tend to be the best players. Are they the clutch hitters because they are among the best? Or are they the best players because they are clutch? I don't know.

    Not a big James Shields fan. 'Big Game' James is 2-4 in the postseason with an ERA a tick under 5.00. I could see - Buchy, RDLR/Workman/Renaudo (pick 2), Kelly, FA - not a crazy strong starting staff, but one with potential, especially if the offense is improved. Press seems to be high on Kelly's stuff, and he's only 26. I don't see them re-signing Lester, but if we have to give someone 5 years/$100m+, I'd rather they do it with him than anyone else. If you added Lester to the names above, it could be a really good staff.

    Frig, this is getting weirder and weirder. Although a quick scan of Twitter indicates a lot of support for this trade from the various scribes..... So I don't know what to think. I will wait to see if anything else happens in the next 3 hours.

    I can't see the Sox making a serious effort to re-sign Lester. His price has gone up since no draft pick will be attached to him. I don't see him giving a hometown discount either. So if the Sox weren't willing to negotiate seriously with him while he was here, what makes anyone think they will this winter, when he'll cost more? No, they will keep floating that idea but in the interim, we will all get used to life post-Lester.

    Sheesh, this is the outfield help? I'd say dump Grady, only because he is probably an injury waiting to happen, but I think I'd rather have him than Torres right now, 'cause his upside is higher.... But if Ben doesn't do something substantial to help the team before much longer, it will be disappointing. Or has he already determined that he's not going to make any sort of splash and just keep turning over rocks and see who pops out?

    Hard to tell exactly with all the moves lately, but they've been working.... RDLR was very impressive - he's a big dude.... Holt continues to make his case for dumping Herrera shortly (although the latter had a good games) and here's hoping Pedey is okay.... Just hope there isn't an emotional let-down vs Tribe. The games against Tampa Bay were certainly extra-bitter, and it's hard to get mad at the Guardians especially with Tito there....

    Holt has played 2B, SS and 3B in the minors, so I think they keep him as utility guy and dump Herrera - I hope....

    Well, we're not talking speeding tickets here, his son was having issues with domestic violence.... But I don't know how far he went in 'string pulling', I hadn't really read that. All the same, ultimately, it's Jared responsible, not his parents. And I think he realizes that - I saw that he didn't want his parents at his sentencing and took responsibility (although he did accuse his GF of having a knife and threatening him with their daughter). Either way, here's hoping that everyone involved can have some closure now.

    Been nice having the last couple of games on TV here in Central NJ. And re: Lester - yeah, he basically had no command and still went 7 innings. He was grinding all the way. THAT'S the kind of guy I want on my staff, knowing he had to go deep in the game and doing it on a night with his C stuff....

    What a strange home-and-home series this is....! Back-to-back 2-game series with in ballparks 1,000 miles apart...

    And ensuring clear communications. I think Farrell does a good job with that, by all accounts. And the players respect him, like they did Tito and unlike Bobby V. Tito and Farrell also never throw a player under the bus, and take the heat for whatever themselves. The players appreciate that, even though I'm sure there is accountability behind closed doors in the clubhouse.
