  1. I'm thinking that John Henry has re-calibrated his computer model for the Sox, from the hard-line 'can't go over $189 million' stance of 2014 to a little more softer input into the black box in that regard. As well as altering the models that predicted the performances of the rookies with some additional historical data.
  2. Actually, if you're referring to his spot on WFAN with The Pope, he said that he felt Lester would end up with the Cubs.... That was at the end of the spot, where he did a 'quick hitter' with Francesa on a series of questions....
  3. So you're saying I need a rain date for my July 4th barbecue in 2015?
  4. I'm not too concerned about Hanley dogging it. There are plenty of guys on the Sox who can make sure he plays hard, including Big Papi, who I think I read somewhere is greatly respected by HanRam. No one on the Dodgers has the cache that Big Papi does - I think that's one of the issues with that team, a real lack of leadership in the clubhouse.
  5. For sure, but talk about a guy who went down the tubes in a hurry......
  6. Can't seem to find him on the twitter but lot's of Jake Westleys.... Anyone have his id?
  7. I'm pleased the FO is making moves. I'm willing to wait to see how this whole off-season shakes out before I praise or condemn. I'm really curious to see the third, fourth and fifth shoes drop after these two moves. If nothing else, it's an indication of a willingness to spend some money to improves the team, which is almost never a bad thing....
  8. The Globe (along with Rosenthal and Heymann) are reporting Sandoval as a done deal. I hope this doesn't mean an XB trade. But there are going to have to be several, if Hanley is playing LF and Sandoval 3B. I hope that being back with Papi does good things for Hanley's maturity level. The next week or so is going to be very interesting on the trade front.
  9. Looks like they got Sandoval, too.....
  10. Well, guess this puts an end to any thought of acquiring Giancarlo Stanton, at least for the next few (prime) years... Getting ready to sign a 13-year, $325 million contract with Marlins. Guess it also ends any chance the Marlins have to be competitive for the next 13 years.
  11. What's the best outfield for the Sox, using just the players they have today? Cespedes - Castillo - Victorino L to R with Betts/Nava as the back-ups?
  12. I think Ramirez is looking for more like Panda number$, not Headley number$. And I think everything you said about Panda, applies to Ramirez as well, except he is injured a lot more and is more of a clubhouse negative. I would totally stay away from him.
  13. No, thanks, I don't want 'Big Lame' James at all....
  14. I agree. I mean, he has 18 starts in the bigs over 2 seasons! His AAA stats are good enough that he should get a chance in the spring as a starter. With the holes the Sox currently have in the rotation, I don't think they can give up on anyone as a starter yet.
  15. This assumes the only way we could get Hamels is by taking Howard. Why are we assuming that?
  16. Re: Lester, good pitch by Pete Abraham in the Globe - http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/11/11/red-sox-plan-should-sign-jon-lester/Ysu4vTiAHxsYEmQoLJiPaN/story.html
  17. I still find it funny that the Sox are keeping up this 'we're going to have discussions with Lester' charade. They are going to make him an offer that will end up being significantly less than he ends up with, the intent being to "demonstrate" their "sincerity" in trying to re-sign him, when they probably could have gotten him for $110 or so in the spring. Now that he has gotten a taste of life outside the Sox organization, I think the home market is gone and he won't leave $25 to $50 million on the table to re-sign. Regardless of whether his house is for sale or not. I will be very surprised if the Sox make a serious effort to re-sign him and shocked if he does re-sign.
  18. Wow, so that's like what Victorino and Napoli were signed for, from an AAV perspective. Not sure I like that. I'd try and bump up a 2-year deal with maybe an option for a third.
  19. I like Beltre too, and he's certainly maintained his performance.... But I think I'd rather save my trade chips for a starting pitcher (Hamels?) and sign Headley to play third, rather than trade young arms for a 35 year old third baseman.
  20. The more I think about this, the more I lean towards Headley over Sandoval. The Panda is gonna cost $100+ million and 6 years, while you could probably sign Headley for 2 years and $25 million, although you might have to bid against the Yankees for his services. He's a switch hitter, as is Panda, so you get the left-handed bat you want, and he doesn't clog up the position for Garrin Cecchini in a year or so. He's a solid defender, a little better than Sandoval. The real difference between them is post-season, where Sandoval has been a beast and Headley has never played. But is that worth $80 million? What do you think?
  21. A lot of teams are looking for right-handed power, and as noted, he's turned himself into at least an average glove. But I'd rather see the Sox maybe add another year onto his contract and keep him for now, then depending on how 2015 is going, if they suck, look to move him at the trade deadline.
  22. That's a tough one. The guy is a proven post-season performer, and a switch-hitter, providing the lefty the Sox want in the line-up. He only averages 66 RBI's a year, although that might be more a function of the fact that the Giants struggle offensively during the regular season, and he does average .294. Defensively, he's probably average at best, and you wonder about that weight as he ages... But I would pay him that money before I paid Hanley - he apparently is looking for superstar money, and he ain't a superstar.
  23. I think the Cubs are primed for a real run, if not in 2015, then 2016. They have a lot of youth, the types of players that will buy into Madden's shtick, and a lot of prospects with which to add a key veteran or two. The main problem they have is the division - getting past the Pirates to the Cards will be tough.
  24. So who would play SS for the 60 or so games a year that Tulo is hurt? I like him too, but his injury history scares me. And Bogaerts is only 22 - just turned last month... I think his upside is massive and that if he stays in one position - either SS or 3B - he will be a good player for us for a long time.
  25. Which MLB team wouldn't?
