  1. I see quotes that Henry is a billionaire all the time, but is he? Genuine question. I know he's part of ownership groups who's assets are worth billions, but that is a very different thing. Anyone know is own personal wealth?
  2. Yes, we certainty don't want to emulate 5 years in a row in the play offs. Would ruin the excitement of early draft picks.
  3. John Heyman has said the Sox are in on Soler but the suspicion is we will be outbid again. So put it in the books. He's a Sox player.
  4. We've also both said that this off season has been a dumpster fire for baseball insiders. Nothing is locked in until it's locked in. But I agree, it doesn't look great.
  5. Haha! I mean I think you've both jumped the shark a little bit, but you're both indicative of just how disillusioned this fanbase has become with an ownership group that seems intent on mocking them, not least with sky high ticket prices. It won't happen, but if the Sox fans voted with their feet, and I mean really voted with their feet. s*** would change in a hurry. Liverpool fans took them on and won.
  6. Boras has form for this. He often holds his players back and they rarely do poorly out of it. I think there's enough teams out there needing pitching that will pony up. Desperation goes both ways. That said, if it does go as you think - I hope we snatch Monty (even though he seems intent on going back to Texas). Don't want Snell.
  7. You two are locked in a depression cycle!
  8. Ugh! I was on board with us getting him. I didn't know about any of this stuff, though. Grim.
  9. This is the point. All the other stuff people are getting angry about this off season is mainly fantasy and guess work (which may come to be true come first pitch of the season), but hiding away really isn't a good look at all. That said, every time they open their mouths they stick their expensive shoes in them. It's possible they just plan to ride out all the noise (and by God there's a lot) until they present a more presentable team to play this season. It is also possible that they are saying nothing because telling everyone what they want to do adds dollar signs and higher rated prospects to potential deals. But they've made it very hard to trust it could be any of the above.
  10. Indeed.
  11. Jen McCaffrey's answer to a question about us not getting Teoscar today. You'd think that would still be the case before we get Soler.
  12. Jen McCaffrey at the Athletic, did a mail bag earlier. Predicably all the questions were about ownership. This was the question: And this the answer... Some stuff in there I wasn't aware of.
  13. He'd still be holding out on signing any fee agents deep into Spring Training. Bel would be looking for a 3rd Bastille to storm.
  14. Further to this -- MLBExecutiveBurner @HotStoveintel Contracts Boras has landed his mid tier Clients this offseason are flat out impressive Notables.. Jung-hoo Lee 5-$113M Manaea 2-$28M Nick Martinez 2-$26M Kenta Maeda 2-$28M Montas 1-$16M Austin Hedges 1-$4M If those deals are an indicator, he's gonna land big money on the studs As an aside - interesting to see the Yankees and Soto not come together on a price.
  15. No, I wouldn't expect so either.
  16. Which doesn't answer the question. There's only so many people/companies/organisations/states that can afford/would buy the Sox. A great many of them you really wouldn't want in ownership.
  17. Boras notoriously has his players test free agency. And a lot of them sign very late, too. I don't expect us to sign Snell or Monty, but it's worth keeping point 2 in mind.
  18. How would you feel about the Saudi's owning the team? Or a hedge fund?
  19. Red Sox ownership not showing up to Winter Weekend after back-to-back last place seasons, the full throttle comments and the dud of an offseason they’ve had so far is such an awful, awful look. You can’t get upset when people ask if you still care when these are your actions. From Carrabis who was hosting the Townhall last year.
  20. The both of you need to let it go. You're wrong. Hugh is coming off unhinged.
  21. While I agree with the vast majority of this, I think it's more than possible (and reported to be the case) that some people just didn't like the look of the job based off the way the owners had acted/are acting. It's certainly fair to ask if Boston may not be the draw it once was, right now.
  22. A couple of noteworthy quotes from @alexspeier’s piece today: “The Sox remain determined to upgrade their rotation and, secondarily, add power to their lineup. But rather than throwing bags of money at those holes, they have bid with the market rather than beyond it in free agency while scouring the trade market for starters with multiple years of control.” “According to multiple sources, the Sox are not currently looking to cut payroll as an end unto itself, but are open to offloading some of their larger guaranteed contracts if they believe they can build a better, and better-rounded, team for 2024 and beyond by doing so. That could take the form of additions — particularly starting pitchers — for the coming season.”
  23. My prevailing feeling on most of the moves that have happened so far.
  24. Jon Morosi @jonmorosi · 40m The Yankees have emerged as the top candidate to sign Marcus Stroman, source says. I’m told the sides have had productive discussions in recent days. We will cover the latest details on @MLBNetwork this morning. This was a little while ago. As with everything this off season - treat with copious amounts of salt.
  25. Quite a few reports came out that Bloom would question himself over and over. The last two trade deadliness (which he totally screwed up) seem to back this up. Breslow in trading Duggie and Sale seems to have far more decisiveness, but it's too early to judge for sure yet. Personally, if it was me in the highchair, I'd want as many smart people around me as possible (within reason) feeding me information and perspectives.
