  1. The offer would need to offset the tax implications, which with the Mets would be no surprise. It's already A LOT more than I thought we would offer.
  2. The first one did break Jim Montgomery's sacking a day before everyone else, and he doesn't have any other wild predictions on his page that I can see, but yes, highly unlikely he has the information. That said, I have healed. I'm ready to be used and abused and have my heartbroken again. If sport isn't about blind hope and optimism, followed by crushing disappointment, then what's it for I ask you!
  3. Passan I am thankful for reporters who don’t make up stories. I am also thankful that Juan Soto has not agreed to any contract, which means you can get off Twitter and go spend the holiday with your family. Happy Thanksgiving
  4. According to @mikedeportes , the Red Sox have a 12-year, $50M per year deal on the table to Juan Soto, who spoke on the phone with Rafael Devers for an hour about the Sox. Mike reports that Soto is interested in the idea of going to the Red Sox and they are a strong contender.
  5. A tiny fraction jump from AA, not many. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.
  6. This is just our airplane to Toronto moment isn't it? 👨‍🍼
  7. I think if we got rid of Storey and slotted Mayer in there almost all of us would be concerned and think it too soon. He's one of the top prospects in the game, but he's proven nothing above AA. No way is he MLB ready right now for me.
  8. I also wonder if Henry is gambling on the idea that the cap is going to be a thing of the past in the next agreement, too.
  9. This guy (Mick (@beyondavgmick) has few followers but called the Montgomery firing a day before it happened. And I can't see any wild posts from him claiming to know stuff that turned out to be bull... 😗 12 years is going to be a seriously high AV and extremely exciting, if true. I'll believe it when I see it, however.
  10. Seattle does feel (somewhat) like a match in that they need position players. Houston, like Moon has mentioned, could definitely be interested in Casas I would think, though I agree that the pitching isn't there for us in a match. If Casas is as highly rated within the league as we're hoping, I think a lot of teams would move for him and make adjustments. If he isn't, then that changes it all, obviously.
  11. Agreed on all counts. I do think the Bregman thing is us kicking the tyres rather than it having any real substance to it.
  12. Again, where is the evidence that Mayer is MLB ready? Is performance in AA enough now? Nobody that I've seen is saying he is likely the starting SS/2nd out of camp. Early '25 maybe, but I've not seen a single analysis that says he is likely in the major league roster out of camp? He is obviously very highly rated, and a talent, but he also needs more time in the minors. This feels pretty obvious to me. *shrugs Happy Thanksgiving to you, too.
  13. Multiple reports from trusted sources like Speier, have us signing a starter (and more) as well as Soto, if it comes off. I very much hope we are trying to sign Fried before Soto is settled to show him just how serious we are about going for it. We need every advantage we can in trying to sign him.
  14. I'm worried about Bregman's decline. Giving him a long contract would scare the s*** out of me. Moving Devers to 1st and having a good defender at 3rd should make us far better defensively, however. Casas and Abreu, you'd think, would bring back a very tasty starting pitcher.
  15. Where's the evidence Mayer is ready? He has had little time in AAA (no games I believe?), and plenty of injuries. He is not ready. As with all these trade proposals, fans overestimate the worth of their players, underestimate the worth of the other teams, and rarely take into account all plans and ideas afoot within the other teams front office.
  16. I'd take Trout in a heartbeat if he agreed to play solely DH and Angles paid down a fair bit of his money owed and took Yoshida. None of these things are possible.
  17. With most teams, I imagine. If we could give him away it would be a miracle and one we should all pray for.
  18. As I posted in another thread I don't think there's much chance at all we sign two of the top free agent starters. It'll be one, and likely a trade for another, younger arm. We still need RH power and bull pen help. We'll spend, but we aren't going to go mental.
  19. I don't see many top players looking to go to the Jays unless they blow someone out of the water. They're in a tough spot right now - poor farm and big questions over their line up for the next few seasons.
  20. Snell would have been an exciting get, but not too worried about him coming off the board. I'm not sure we would have gone (or should have) near that contract offer. Hopefully Soto decides soon so we can know which way we're aiming as an org. I think the reports of us looking to sign two starters are wide of the mark. We'll get only one, regardless, I'm pretty sure. A second through trade.
  21. Rosenthal speculating last night that Red Sox could move Casas for someone like Bryan Woo from Seattle. I don't for a second think Seattle take that deal, but if they were interested, I'd do it yesterday.
  22. We've been linked with Adames enough for me to think it's actually him that we're looking at and sliding him over if it comes to it. Not sure how I feel about that.
  23. If it does come to pass, I'm going to be very interested to see how other teams value Casas. He seems to be just about holding onto his value at the moment, but I imagine his market might be smaller than we'd hope. Especially if the hope is starting pitching in return.
  24. Agreed. Not sure how Devers will feel about it after his agent saying he is a 3rd baseman earlier in the off season, but hopefully we'll find out. Not breaking new ground here, but his bat is going to need to keep playing to a high level for this not to look like a bad contract.
  25. Trade him for pitching. I really hope the rumour about moving Devers is true. He;s a horrible 3rd baseman.
