    Breslow would bite his tongue off in haste at saying yes to such a thing. Not remotely close to what Castillo would fetch (or is worth).

    Why? We just bid $700m on one player. Nothing has happened since that means we've missed out on top targets. I know there's a solid track record of being let down recently, but let's have a wee bit of patience.

    15 at $700m (our offer apparently) is insane. In that the price is enormous and still not enough to get it done. I'd have loved him but that contract is absolutely ridiculous. I'd prefer both Mookie and Shohei at either of their deals. And it's not even close. If we go out and go big on starters and a RH bat, it'll be a good off season.

    Go big! Front load the contract -60/70mil a year. Give him an opt out after the 3rd/4th year. Everyone a winner.

    Heyman reporting we're at $700m. If that's true and doesn't get it done just walk away and spend your money elsewhere. It already starting to feel way too much.

    You'd have to be astonishingly cynical to think that step would be for show. They've already made enough fuss for it to be about show. And Boras could leek that Boston didn't match the highest offer or balked at the asking price. What would be the good of that?

    I think if they miss out on Soto they will go hard on at least Fried and overpay if needed, I should think. They know how it will look if they miss out on everyone. They'll spend a lot of money one way or another this year, I'm pretty confident.,

    Completely agree on the last point. It's not even close. I imagine Ownership would, too, if they could have their time again.

    Maybe it did, maybe it didn't. I doubt if we'd offered $360mil in '19 he says no to test the market, but we'll never know, which is my point. Absolutes and facts need to be tossed aside in this case. Nobody has them to produce.

    Quite, but that's an altogether different point. On the point about being outbid by Cohen - people need to pick their criticism and stick to it (not aimed at you, just a general point). You can't blast the ownership for being cheap and not spending on the top players and then on the other hand after they've lost the bidding to Cohen turnaround and say 'what idiots they wasted their time going up against him.' Well, I guess people can and will, but then that's what the ignore button is for I guess.

    But then signed an extension with the Dodgers before free agency? I'm not sure what the truth is around the whole thing, but there's a lot of guesswork that's stated as fact around this topic. As an aside, Zach Scott (former vice president of baseball research and development - who eventually served as assistant general manager), said: “We only signed Sale once we knew we couldn’t sign Mookie,” Scott shared. “We made our best and final [offer] to Mookie in spring 2019, and once it was clear it wasn’t happening, we almost immediately pivoted to Sale. I guess all that cash was burning a hole in someone’s pocket." Two f*** ups in one.

    You'd have to be a complete idiot to think us not getting Soto is some sort of embarrassment and /or stain on Ownership. This is the first thing they've done right in a while. Regardless of if we get him (needing to outbid the richest guy in Baseball history along the way).

    If we're against the Mets we don't even have to match it to come out on top financially because of the tax implications.

    The Yanks, therefore, appear to be losing ground in the battle for Soto. Danny Abriano of SNY wrote this on Saturday, quoting Yankees reporter Randy Miller: “Randy Miller of NJ dot com was on WFAN about an hour ago to discuss the Juan Soto sweepstakes. Believes it will come down to Red Sox and Mets. Said he would be surprised if Soto took any type of discount to return to the Yankees.” Miller explained that he believes the Yankees will finish fourth in the Soto sweepstakes and that they will top out at $550 million. If that’s the case, they have virtually no chance of retaining the superstar talent.

    If a New York team offers that, we need only match it or come in just under to be the better offer due to the different tax rates.

    If you're stating something as fact, the onus is on you to prove the fact. I just questioned why the surety. And while I agree mlb-ready is a loose term, I quantified it by saying I haven't seen any evaluators say that he is ready to start the season in the big leagues. Something, I too, feel is pretty obvious.
