  1. The concussion stuff ended my interest in the sport, too. Can't remember when I last watched a Football game.
  2. Not to mention we badly need to trade a lefthanded hitter at some point.
  3. At this point I think we should go back to the Bauer conversation.
  4. While I've no doubt part of it will be about shedding salary, there's not much point having a high cost, premium closer on the team for one year. Some teams will give up a handy piece or two for that.
  5. It's a strange one alright. Which makes me think they must have more moves coming. I'd be very tempted by MVP's trade scenario: BTV accepts Duran for Robby Snelling - SP Dillon Head - OF
  6. With the Brewers closer Devin Williams going down for 3 months, I wonder if they'll have any interest in Kenley. And Padres going for it with Cease and still needing outfielders, maybe Duran still isn't safe either.
  7. If your intention, as it seems, was just to use this to relitigate the original contract, I suggest you just go back to when we signed him and read the multiple posts that have already once been posted.
  8. There's next to no risk putting that in the contract. If he does have an injury in his second year, they can pick him up cheap for a third. There's literally nothing to complain about here, unless complaining is all you're setting out to do.
  9. Yes. The Sox might want to play it much slower, after news of the extra option in Gio's contract leaked. If Giolito opts in for 2025, then throws fewer than 140 innings that year, the club gets a $14 million club option (or $1.5 million buyout) for 2026. If he reaches that 140-inning mark, the option will become a $19 million mutual option (which both sides would need to exercise, meaning it’s almost certain to be declined) or the $1.5 million buyout.
  10. The Red Sox announce that SP Lucas Giolito yesterday underwent a successful right elbow ulnar collateral ligament repair with internal brace. Avoided Tommy John. Some good news. Rich Hill had the internal brace procedure by Dr. Jeffrey Dugas back in October of 2019. He returned to the mound on July 29th in 2020.
  11. That seems like a very decent deal for us. If he develops as we hope it'll be a steal.
  12. Right-hander Brayan Bello and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a six-year, $55 million contract extension that includes a seventh-year club option for $21 million, sources tell ESPN. The Sox lock up the 24-year-old into the 2030s

  14. For what it's worth regarding Casas, here's BTV's guide to what they think an extension should look like. Triston Casas: 8 years, $92 million ($11.5M AAV, through age 31) Casas is another player who displayed lots of talent during his rookie campaign last year, producing 1.7 fWAR and hitting .263 with 24 home runs. For an extension to make sense for the Red Sox, however, he’ll have to make some large strides in the field, as he was one of the worst defensive first basemen in baseball. One option Boston may explore longer-term could be a move to DH. Defensive questions aside, an extension could still make sense if Boston believes Casas will continue to elevate his offensive game.
  15. You, along with plenty of others, have lost the ability to think rationally about the Sox this off season. Do you really think Alex Speier is reporting the Sox are close on an extension and that it's imminent without speaking to Bello's people first as well?
  16. Yeah I get the impression that he'll back himself all the way unless we really impress him with an offer.
  17. I'm not a big lover of extending pitchers, but position players for sure. It'll be interesting to see what they're working out with Bello.
  18. According to @alexspeier , the Red Sox and Brayan Bello are in “advanced talks” on a long-term extension. “According to multiple industry sources, Red Sox righthander Brayan Bello is in advanced talks about an agreement on a long-term deal with the Red Sox. The deal would keep Bello with the team beyond 2028, when he would first be eligible for free agency.”
  19. Not a single person is arguing differently.
  20. Yeah, I listened to the same podcast. Which makes perfect sense. It might seem counterintuitive (we really need pitching now), but if they didn't believe Monty was going to make a big enough difference in the amount of wins we'd get before Gio went down, there's no point spending all that money to be bang average now. Boras was straight out after the Gio injury calming teams were in crisis pitching wise and that calls were flooding in for his two pitchers. I'm all for players getting the money over the owners, but I'd love for Boras to get a couple of black eyes on this. He constantly holds up the market and is massively against a free agent signing period, which the sport could badly do with. Just in terms of getting eyeballs on it if nothing else.
  21. Yes, well done Notin, temper tantrums and throwing the ball over the wall are definitely in the same category as being accused of rape by 4 separate women and literally beating the f*** out of them. Clown. To answer your last question, yes, if a player is accused of sexual assault and/or battery, especially by multiple women, one of which made her complaint and tried to take out a restraining order a full year before the main story broke, the Red Sox should stay the f*** away, (as the sport should have told Chapman to f*** off and do something else after he beat his partner), unless there is irrefutable evidence a person has been wrongly accused. I just can't get my head around how yourself and others who are not only fine with signing Bauer but actively want to, are okay with your kids cheering this rancid f*** on, or able to look the women and girls in your lives in the eye? "I mean sure look ladies, I know there's photographic evidence of literal battery of women, testimony from a rape nurse who in her own words said: 'I had never seen that before,' while describing the amount and colour of bruising around the woman's genitals, but look, one of the women tried to blackmail him and he's pitching to under a 4 ERA while costing only league minimum so..." That sport is so important to people that they'll put up with anything for wins is bad enough, but watching people flounder to make it about second chances (did he really even do anything wrong?) is insufferable.
  22. Why are you so desperate to sign Bauer? Does character mean nothing to you? Is it really just all about the wins and f*** everything else?
  23. I'm in total agreement with you.
  24. Duran pulled from the game today injured, flexing the foot he had surgery on earlier this off season. Things are going swimmingly.
  25. So name names. Show me posts. Who said it was the sole reason for his performance? I read most of what's written here, I don't recall anyone proclaiming this as the only reason.
