  1. It reminds me of '19. We were struggling and clearly nowhere near where we needed to be (plus had the impending cliff ahead), and the week or so before the trade deadline we went on a run winning games and dragging us back into 'well you never know' territory. I often wonder what would have happened if we'd been far enough out for a sell off there. Mookie would have brought back even more at that time. Or we could have side stepped the problem all together and maybe traded Price and Eovaldi to contenders (although I don't remember how Eovaldi was doing at the time). JD may have gone too, however, and Vaz. We went back to being rubbish straight after. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened. Especially as it was Gunslinger Dave with the reigns at the time.
  2. Impossible to say with any certainty, but the '19 rotation did feel under-prepared.
  3. Yeah, agreed on all points. It feels like a get-us-through-the-year rotation, rather than one built to be a contender. But we'll see, I guess.
  4. That completely passed me by. Makes sense for this year. Hopefully we can get our runs early today/tonight.
  5. Oh ain't that the truth! I'm still not sure what we have with this team. We aren't as bad as the first three games showed, and we aren't as good as the past seven have shown either. It'll be interesting to see where in-between we land along the way. I thought we might surprise a few people along the way this year. That's still my guess, although if we keep this winning streak up, the cat will be out of the bag.
  6. I lived in NYC for a spell. This was my feeling for them, too. Then again, that's my feeling for most sports fans. Not the most reasonable of groups of people, are we, after all.
  7. And attributed to me the power apparently, to ruin our good times, through merely being back posting. Otherwise why would anyone think to bring such a thing up? As I said, pretty fragile stuff. Maybe stick me on ignore, enjoy life, be ruin-less. You're not getting any younger.
  8. On these two things, we agree my friend. There's only one Joni. Notin, I will take you word for it on Greenday!
  9. You're very fragile if my mere posting ruins anything for you.
  10. I'll say again, nothing like this should be judged on the benefit of hindsight. You agree there were reasons to do what they did. I think the conversation doesn't need anymore than this. As an aside I didn't think you were going after Cora in particular, as I imagine it was group decision. As an aside to the aside, I stay clear of the game threads. If I wanted that kind of night I'd put some Joni on and scroll through pictures of old lovers.
  11. I imagine that you agree that the educated guesses of the Sox management carry a bit more weight. Chavis has done nothing to prove he should be on the team at the moment. His ST was good but then so was Dalbec's. It counts for nothing. It's a long season after a very short one. The club obviously feel that the pitchers need protecting as much as possible. I'm absolutely delighted that we haven't had to use the fourteen pitchers. The more we are able to ease them into the season the better. But going into to the start, there were a lot of question marks, and the move made sense and cost us nothing. Who cares if we didn't need twelve with hindsight? That's why you don't use hindsight to question decisions at a time point. I just don't understand the need to criticise the decision. We're playing great ball and leading the division. It smacks of searching for things to be annoyed about or just posting to show your prediction was correct. Either seems a bit ungracious to me, but there you go.
  12. Okay, but you were guessing. And with an untried rotation with plenty of questions marks about it, and after a shortened season, it could well have gone a different way. We are doing just fine and the decision was a sound one, and cost us nothing. It just seems to be searching for something to complain about.
  13. It's been a sweet week. No less for the fact some posters post a lot less when there isn't something to complain about.
  14. It's easy to make those arguments with hindsight. Management obviously felt there could be some effect of the pandemic and pitchers would tire earlier. The less stress we put on he pitchers now the better it will be later in the season. I know it's the sports fan prerogative, but you don't have to look for something to complain about.
  15. My condolences RF.
  16. That are known to YOU. Blows my mind how often sports fans take rock solid positions on something (in this case Bloom is now a confirmed lying sack of s*** apparently) while having less than a fraction of the information at hand to make such certain statements. Idiotic.
  17. Biden and Cora on the same day. It's a very good day.
  18. Fantastic post. Ahh, to have more posters like you and Kimmi on this board.
  19. I'd question the intelligence and mentality of anyone who thought it was.
  20. Very happy we aren't the ones that offered that contract. I don't believe he will age well, and I don't believe he ever wanted to sign a long term contract with the Sox unless it was for something utterly absurd. His comments yesterday of "This is the only place I would have signed this long" (paraphrasing) might be paying lip-service to the Dodgers fans, but it backs up a suspicion I have had for a long time he didn't want to stay with the Sox long term. Mookie has always been about the money. He'll have the Dodger fans bevelling it's all about them in no time. Good luck to him. He was gonna get paid somewhere, I'm just glad it wasn't here.
  21. Very good, thanks. I hope you and the family are all safe and doing well?
  22. Yeah agreed, Kimmi. I think Mookie (and all free agents) will be looking at a depressed market next year. It will make for interesting viewing.
  23. I've been wondering what had happened, but was too worried to ask. Delighted for you and the family. Wonderful news.
  24. There's almost zero chance there's any games this year. At least none with any fan in the stadium. Nice to seem players stepping up and supplying cash to the lesser fortunate.
  25. In your mind, I'm sure I have.
