  1. You'd have to be a complete idiot to think us not getting Soto is some sort of embarrassment and /or stain on Ownership. This is the first thing they've done right in a while. Regardless of if we get him (needing to outbid the richest guy in Baseball history along the way).
  2. My problem with it is more moral over performance based.
  3. That would be depressing. The Chapman news.
  4. If we're against the Mets we don't even have to match it to come out on top financially because of the tax implications.
  5. The Yanks, therefore, appear to be losing ground in the battle for Soto. Danny Abriano of SNY wrote this on Saturday, quoting Yankees reporter Randy Miller: “Randy Miller of NJ dot com was on WFAN about an hour ago to discuss the Juan Soto sweepstakes. Believes it will come down to Red Sox and Mets. Said he would be surprised if Soto took any type of discount to return to the Yankees.” Miller explained that he believes the Yankees will finish fourth in the Soto sweepstakes and that they will top out at $550 million. If that’s the case, they have virtually no chance of retaining the superstar talent.
  6. If a New York team offers that, we need only match it or come in just under to be the better offer due to the different tax rates.
  7. If you're stating something as fact, the onus is on you to prove the fact. I just questioned why the surety. And while I agree mlb-ready is a loose term, I quantified it by saying I haven't seen any evaluators say that he is ready to start the season in the big leagues. Something, I too, feel is pretty obvious.
  8. The offer would need to offset the tax implications, which with the Mets would be no surprise. It's already A LOT more than I thought we would offer.
  9. The first one did break Jim Montgomery's sacking a day before everyone else, and he doesn't have any other wild predictions on his page that I can see, but yes, highly unlikely he has the information. That said, I have healed. I'm ready to be used and abused and have my heartbroken again. If sport isn't about blind hope and optimism, followed by crushing disappointment, then what's it for I ask you!
  10. Passan I am thankful for reporters who don’t make up stories. I am also thankful that Juan Soto has not agreed to any contract, which means you can get off Twitter and go spend the holiday with your family. Happy Thanksgiving
  11. According to @mikedeportes , the Red Sox have a 12-year, $50M per year deal on the table to Juan Soto, who spoke on the phone with Rafael Devers for an hour about the Sox. Mike reports that Soto is interested in the idea of going to the Red Sox and they are a strong contender.
  12. A tiny fraction jump from AA, not many. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.
  13. This is just our airplane to Toronto moment isn't it? 👨‍🍼
  14. I think if we got rid of Storey and slotted Mayer in there almost all of us would be concerned and think it too soon. He's one of the top prospects in the game, but he's proven nothing above AA. No way is he MLB ready right now for me.
  15. I also wonder if Henry is gambling on the idea that the cap is going to be a thing of the past in the next agreement, too.
  16. This guy (Mick (@beyondavgmick) has few followers but called the Montgomery firing a day before it happened. And I can't see any wild posts from him claiming to know stuff that turned out to be bull... 😗 12 years is going to be a seriously high AV and extremely exciting, if true. I'll believe it when I see it, however.
  17. Seattle does feel (somewhat) like a match in that they need position players. Houston, like Moon has mentioned, could definitely be interested in Casas I would think, though I agree that the pitching isn't there for us in a match. If Casas is as highly rated within the league as we're hoping, I think a lot of teams would move for him and make adjustments. If he isn't, then that changes it all, obviously.
  18. Agreed on all counts. I do think the Bregman thing is us kicking the tyres rather than it having any real substance to it.
  19. Again, where is the evidence that Mayer is MLB ready? Is performance in AA enough now? Nobody that I've seen is saying he is likely the starting SS/2nd out of camp. Early '25 maybe, but I've not seen a single analysis that says he is likely in the major league roster out of camp? He is obviously very highly rated, and a talent, but he also needs more time in the minors. This feels pretty obvious to me. *shrugs Happy Thanksgiving to you, too.
  20. Multiple reports from trusted sources like Speier, have us signing a starter (and more) as well as Soto, if it comes off. I very much hope we are trying to sign Fried before Soto is settled to show him just how serious we are about going for it. We need every advantage we can in trying to sign him.
  21. I'm worried about Bregman's decline. Giving him a long contract would scare the s*** out of me. Moving Devers to 1st and having a good defender at 3rd should make us far better defensively, however. Casas and Abreu, you'd think, would bring back a very tasty starting pitcher.
  22. Where's the evidence Mayer is ready? He has had little time in AAA (no games I believe?), and plenty of injuries. He is not ready. As with all these trade proposals, fans overestimate the worth of their players, underestimate the worth of the other teams, and rarely take into account all plans and ideas afoot within the other teams front office.
  23. I'd take Trout in a heartbeat if he agreed to play solely DH and Angles paid down a fair bit of his money owed and took Yoshida. None of these things are possible.
