  1. Some chat about Devers - On Friday, Devers said none of his struggles are about his new role as designated hitter, but having never served as DH on a full-time basis, it would make sense if finding that rhythm and routine while the team is on the field is another part of his slow start. He admitted he has not talked to David Oritz or J.D. Martinez about how their routines evolved when they transitioned to a full-time DH role. “I did talk to David a little bit in spring training but not about being a DH,” he said. “I think I’m going to have to take the time to call J.D. and David.” Devers said his shoulders are healthy now, so an IL trip isn’t likely at this point. “It’s not the shoulders, it’s not the DH thing, he was very vocal about that a few days ago,” Cora said. “Now it’s a matter of keep working hard. Getting to the point of hitting the ball in front.”
  2. Loving Breslow's moves. I'd have preferred there wasn't the player option in there, but when you compare it to above - love it.
  3. The one thing that's driving me crazy about this team at the moment - when we're down to 2 strikes, none of them are shortening their swings!!
  4. Line up... Duran LF Devers DH Bregman 3rd Ref RF Story SS Campbell 2nd Romy 1st Wong C Rafaela CF
  5. I'm trying not to let my dislike of Casas cloud my judgements on him. Everything from the way he plays, acts, and talks annoys me. Incessantly. I can't even pinpoint why.
  6. Which is how you go from "this guy sucks" to "he's carrying the offence on his own" to "this guy sucks - TRADE HIM" in a 2 to 3 week spell.
  7. Yeah you can see it with the naked eye. It's crazy wide at the moment. Best case scenario - he's just somehow wandered into this stance. Worst case - he's doing it because of his shoulders.
  8. Before Sunday’s game, Cora mentioned he and the hitting coaches spoke with Devers about tightening his stance to create a better base. “If you’re not grounded, you’re not going to be on time,” Cora said. Interesting comments from Cora last night. I saw no evidence of a tightening of the stance. It's wider than I've ever seen
  9. If the Yankees can change their bats, I don't see why we can't try and sneak this one through.
  10. I'm not suggesting you are making things up, I'm saying it takes two minutes to add a link to the thing you're stating that explains the situation clearly. It's easier for the person doing the stating as they know where to look/search for as they saw the original corresponding piece. It's a conversation board, not a blog. It just helps the conversation, and for other people to have a wider understanding of situations. It's not asking much.
  11. One thing to add to this however - this not being able to hit with RISP is not just a 'this year' problem. I feel like it's Groundhog Day with this particular stat/issue. And that falls on the coaching, too.
  12. If you're going to state things as fact, it's not unreasonable to ask you to supply those facts. Not everyone has the time or opportunity to watch and read everything said about every player, coach, or management at the club. It's not an attack on you, it's wanting to know why you're stating something so confidently.
  13. Yup, (though I suspect that being DH is also playing a large - if not the biggest - part in where he's at when at the plate). 1-3 against a lot of people's favourites for the AL pennant is no drama, especially as the only thing that let us down was hitting (with RISP the biggest killer of all). We're a good team, we just haven't clicked out of the gate. It happens. People were quick to write the Yankees off all of last week, and now the same people are in a panic because they've won their first 3. It's like some people start every new season of baseball forgetting or blocking out everything they've seen and know of baseball from before. BUT, Devers is a concern no doubt about it.
  14. Is it my imagination or did Devers play DH quite a bit towards the end of last year, too? Matt Kemp recently tweeted - "I don't think people really understand how hard it is to not play the field. It's like you're playing but you aren't. Playing the field keeps you engaged." This is where my general thinking is (along with worries about how wide open his stance has become). Playing DH was sprung on Devers. He wants to be on the field. I'd be devastated if I couldn't play the field. Let's hope he adapts quickly if it is the case.
  15. Absolutely. People are acting like he's finished. His stance is crazy wide open, however. The widest I've seen it. Couple of tweaks and he'll be fine I'm sure.
  16. Apt hat it ends with a strikeout. Better from Devers in that last at bat. Not the end of the world. Pitching and defence is looking good. We just need the hitting to heat up. It'll come.
  17. Eesh! Devers really does look lost out there. His stance is crazy wide open. Wider than I've ever seen it.
  18. They really are the only two right now. This game is there for the taking if we can find some hits (and/or shutdown pitching).
  19. Devers is core group. Come on now, let's not get crazy.
