  1. Yeah, I can see him getting a couple of month in AAA at least. And as you say - it's what the kid needs.
  2. The early reports were they wanted Early AND Tolle, or at least one of them and more pitching. There was only one report about Mayer being involved - I brought it into the thread saying I would do it. But not with Tolle/Early added in. That report has been quoted a few times but not replicated with different sources. So how reliable it is I don't know. And then there's the rumour that the Rays offer of two starting pitchers wasn't enough to get it done. So regardless, it's not happening now.
  3. I don't think it was the consensus. It was a conversation based off the possibility of it that became the dominant conversation on here for two days. I think the consensus is that AZ want pitching. And a lot of it.
  4. And sign Suarez. And Tucker. Cheap bastards.
  5. I like that idea a lot. I just don't think the Mets will.
  6. I'm really uneasy with us leaning into the idea of Mayer being a full time starter at any position right now. He;s got a lot still left to prove and develop. That said, unless Romy gets the nod at 2nd or 3rd, it's looking like Mayer's to run with due to our financial constraints.
  7. I think we're pretty much at the first limit now? Which gives us $20m until they go over the second limit. I'm not sure clearing Duran's $7.7m gets you the money needed for Bo or Bregman's AAV. It would be tight. But that would give us zero room to make mid season trade moves unless we're shipping money away and would mean the bullpen is now what it is. So if we're going down the Bregman or Bo route, it seems to me that other cost savings are going to be found. Not sure what they will be but I've already said I'd trade Bello and Duran for Ragans if the Royals were takers, which would free up $14m if memory serves, while giving us a stellar rotation. The dream of course, is somehow finding way to get most of Yoshida's money off the books. Even half would be a big help. But despite Moon putting him in every trade deal proposal, I just don't see us getting it done. If we did get it done, I'm good keeping Duran and cycling the outfielders around the DH spot.
  8. I think his market was next to nothing. I'm glad we passed. Great signing for the White Sox, though. If it hits, they can trade him for huge haul. If it doesn't, no big deal.
  9. I'm sad to lose Dobbins, I had a real soft spot for that kid, but I really like getting Contreras. You won't find a Cards fan that has anything but good words about him. Leadership, good player both offensively and defensively. Works nicely for me. Somewhat surprised Dobbins wasn't enough on his own, but it's not like we didn't have pitching to spare. You'd think we need to go out and get Bregman, Bo, or Marte now and we're in good shape with veteran leadership as well as youthful energy. But the first two would put us over the 2nd line, so is unlikely unless we can free up money somehow. And I would think we're not sending Tolle or Early anywhere now, so Marte feels unlikely too. Not sure what this means for Casas...starting in AAA is my bet. I really wonder what happens with Duran/Abreu, too Overall, very happy with this move, but a lot of questions remain.
  10. Last year was a shocker but his career level wasn't much higher. But then, Ohtani also had a similar numbers on fastballs.
  11. And unfortunately, unlikely to get it done.
  12. His power is enticing alright. His contact skills on anything above 93mph...not so much.
  13. Regardless, the money is there to spend on a second bat if they want to. Whether they want to is another thing.
  14. Forget Cots - every journo is reporting it at this number ($14.7m). So either they're all right, or you are. We'll soon find out for sure one way or another I guess.
  15. Well that's a different discussion. Whether they actually will spend all the way up to the 2nd line is definitely up for debate. Hell, if Campbell had proved he could even hit at league average last year, there's a world in which they'd already called it a lid for this off season. 🫣
  16. Yes I believe they're only putting beer costs up by $4 this season.
  17. 100%. One of only two obvious patterns along with Breslow's pitcher 'type'.
  18. There is a very real risk it's one and done. The fallout will be spectacular.
  19. Yeah @Hugh2! So SHOVE IT!!!!! 🤨😂 God, please let them do something soon. It feels like collective insanity is settling in.
  20. No idea of the specifics. Just passing on what is being reported as fact by the big dogs.
  21. I don't really know who is the best to go for. Regardless, getting back to the actual point, we've got plenty of money to make things happen.
  22. Well that's that then. Ordering my Murakami jersey right now.
  23. Suarez? He's got deferrals in his contract so the LT hit is only $14.7m. According to Rosenthal at least.
