  1. After seeing throws up the line and nowhere close to the plate for a decade I'm pretty convinced that outfielders can't throw anymore.
  2. That throw was pathetic, how can you not drill a runner at the plate from shallow left field? But this has become so common, why can't outfielders throw any more? I see errant throws to home that are way off target virtually every time I see a game or highlights.
  3. I have been a Cora supporter. But he does tend to be too loyal and sticks with players who should not be out there. I have no idea why he continue to utilize Weissert the way he does.
  4. Every time I see him touch the ball he just looks like a really good defensive major league infielder.
  5. Well that was a relief. They needed this win, we all did. Not sure why Cora is so in love with Weissart, he always makes me nervous with his 9 blown saves last season. Really happy that Durbin finally got a hit.
  6. There is little doubt the skill of today's pitchers, and the hitters who have adjusted to these better pitches, is higher than it was in the 60's. But today pitchers train for 100 pitches, they are not expecting to ever go 10 innings unless it's the World Series. But that does not mean they are pussies. As for the IR perhaps teams take injuries more seriously today rather than "throw some dirt on it"? That's certainly the case with head injuries. With that said I've noticed for years how much more fragile baseball players are then other athletes. Seems like with every collision there is a guy hurt, some come out of the game. Football players play in so much more pain, they must laugh at baseball players.
  7. Maryland was a 4 seed and in the Sweet Sixteen a year ago. Then the coach and literally every single player left. So weird to watch my team for the first time and I didn't know one single player. But I knew enough to recognize a bad team. Kind of like what I'm watching on MLB Extra Innings every night now. I loved Fatts Russel. Len Bias was going to be so weird for me. I HATED the Celtics (and pretty much every team in every sport that wins all the time). I had no idea how I would have reacted to seeing Len Bias in a Celtics uniform. But you guys really lost out. He was compared to Michael Jordan but he didn't put the ball on the floor nearly as well. But he would have been a monster for the Celtics.
  8. I live outside of DC. We missed out on all the greatness. Worst stretch I've been through, even Maryland Basketball sucks now. But for most of my life I could always count on the Red Sox to be good. Not now.
  9. Fair enough, Contraras is not the main problem here. But with that said, and I understand he played catcher, he simply does not produce enough home runs from a power position. My figures were wrong, it included 2026 so that screwed up my averages. But he has only hit 20 or more HRs 6 out of his 10 seasons (understanding the 2020 season was not a season) and he has topped out at 24 HRs. And he's 33 and has hit .257 for his career and I happen to believe batting averages are still important.
  10. Quoting you to address the last point. For years now when they go into the 9th down a few runs they never make it exciting, they just lie down and die.
  11. Perhaps. His career OPS is .810. But he has also average 15 home runs a season from a power position. And he's 33 so his production is on the decline.
  12. I hate this lineup before the first pitch of the season. Far too many question marks and marginal starters. When you are counting on players like Trevor Story and Marcello Mayer to be solid players and an unproven talent in Anthony to provide a star like performance, when you already know your corner infielders are below average hitters and you don't have one single big bat that scares people, I see no reason to change my opinion.
  13. I never counted on Casas. I'm so done with Story. Now we can't even get a solid performance from our ace. I'm so sick of my teams sucking. All of them have sucked for years and this looks like another lost summer. F You John Henry. So much for "this offseason will be different".
  14. You mean like that guy in San Francisco?
  15. I didn't like this lineup going into spring training and I feel no different now. Just way too many question marks without the big bat teams fear. I'm not counting on Trevor Story, why should I? They have an entire lineup filled with questionable, marginal or unproven bats. What has taken place is no surprise to me.
  16. I just figured they wanted to break it up and go lefty, righty, lefty. Gray's numbers don't really impress me all that much, I'm sure he's fine but not sure he's a number 2 on a good staff.
  17. I get why they wanted a RH to break up the left handed dominated staff. But I never considered Sonny Gray to be a #2. The biggest problem with MLB is their inability to manage their underperforming umpires. Players and coaches are held accountable but umpires are not. Can't be out of challenges by the 3rd inning, especially with this clown behind the plate. Abreau's HR was awesome. Shame it was wasted, they had plenty of chances. I won't lie, I was concerned that Chapman may revert to control problems and last season was an aberration. Glad to see I may have been wrong there.
  18. My first experience with the new challenge system. Not because it worked for me I just think it's fantastic. They player, not the manager, makes the call. I went back and timed it and it took all of 17 seconds. What I was most excited about, other than the pitching, was seeing Mayer get 2 hits. I'm concerned about his bat at the ML level, he lost a lot of development games.
  19. Yeah that was my understanding as well. I'm not sure where these comments about Ohtani are coming from, he appeared to be the victim.
  20. Yeah I love this approach. It's always a gamble and you will miss, but I for one am pretty pumped that we have RA locked up at a reasonable cost.
  21. I like the trade too and I'm glad we have a complete team this close to spring training. But this lineup is still weak and we give up way too much power and offense from our corner infielders when compared to our opponents.
  22. Very happy to see Hicks and his contract go, surprised anyone would want him.
  23. I see an extended work stoppage and I'm not sure how it's resolved. The Dodgers ARE ruining baseball, the iffy competitive balance that was once in place is now gone. It's a joke really. Other owners can't be happy at what they are doing. And if going bankrupt gave them an incredible financial advantage well that makes the situation far worse. I really believe they will push for some sort of cap, and of course the union will never agree to that. So this where they will stand IMO.
  24. I compared our lineup with the Yankees in that playoff series and they weren't even close. We don't have that big bat that scares teams and the lineup had no depth. Just too many weak or below average or average hitters all down the lineup.
  25. I don't trust Bello, it's been enough time to see growth IMO. But of course I really like the starting rotation. I see Sandoval and Early filling out the rotation in a really left handed dominated starting staff. But I don't see much of a market for Bello so I guess they will run it back again and see if he has learned how to utilize his good stuff. I still don't like a lineup filled with so many holes and question marks and without that big stick (or 2). I'm not as confident as most that Marco Mayer can hit major league hitting and that will be a key. I'm also convinced so many of the errors were throwing errors by the infield, Bregman was certainly guilty as well. A legit first baseman will fix a lot of these problems.
