  1. I feel badly for Rivera and hope his is out of the fetal position by now. A young pitcher getting shelled has to hurt their confidence, being the guy to basically end the streak added to it I'm sure.
  2. He has been used twice since June 4, a long relief appearance when Tolle came out for innings management and last night when he came in because the starter got hammered. He gave up 1 run in 9 2/3. I'm suggesting they find an opener and plug in Bello and use that combination as part of the rotation.
  3. How many more times does Bello need to do this before the club utilizes his, um, unique skillset? Instead of keeping him in this role, finding someone to get 3 outs and making it part of the rotation they tried him as a starter again with predictable results and then sent him down when that failed.
  4. I have been a bit concerned about Chapman for a month. Now it's a flat out concern. He is no longer automatic and makes me nervous. Need a few good outings for me to feel better.
  5. You make good points. I'll throw in he could not have expected to get basically zero production from Anthony and Duran. But I'm not going to succumb to recency bias, which is a real thing. He is still the architect of a roster that is 2 games over .500 with little power. I'm afraid this hot hitting streak will come to an end, sooner rather than later.
  6. Was surgery an option for Anthony? I always thought it was a sprain and we just needed to wait it out. But this is beyond frustrating. Looks to be a total lost season for him. As I said earlier imagine if he was in the lineup giving what we all expected, imagine this win streak then.
  7. I'm not moving Durbin off of 3rd base. I didn't expect this season to be fun, not with this lineup. But I'm enjoying this streak so much, I can't wait to watch them tonight. Might have to put on some Red Sox gear to wear around here in Maryland.
  8. They are only fun to watch because they are hitting bombs every night. They were not fun to watch for the first 3 months of the season. I'm just imagining the Sox playing like this and having Roman Anthony in the lineup and doing what we all expected him to do.
  9. Did that really just happen? Why did a 7th inning home run feel almost like a walkoff? Guess because they had not come back from down 3 all year. I wanted Abreu to have the green light on 3-0, then he took a fastball right down the middle and I thought they had missed their chance. Best win of the year for me, Keeping the streak alive made it felt like a pennant race win in September. Chapman has not been the same for many weeks now and that's my concern.
  10. He is what he is. He starts off hot and can carry a team for a month, then he cools off and is a bit streaky. At the end of the season he can be expected to be 264/23 HR ..780 OPS guy who plays great defense and I'm glad he's on my team.
  11. What fun last night was. I recorded both games and watched them back to back. It was great seeing Duran shooting one through a drawn in infield. All season I was frustrated that we never seemed to do that. Bennet was superb, again. LIke all of us I was concerned that we had lost our momentum after the break. I sure didn't see this coming. But this is fun again, bring on tonight!
  12. LOL at all the fans who were spiking the football as Raffy struggled early in the summer. He often starts slowly I thought to myself, this was no big deal. Now he is doing Raffy Devers things and has been doing it for 2 months and nobody should be surprised. I don't want to get into the trade again, I'll just point out that he is the big bat that fans are screaming for, the big bat this lineup desperately needs. And now he plays for someone else. And we got back little. Again. But at least JH is saving money which is great. For him. I'll never get over this trade. Teams work it out with an unhappy player all the time.
  13. Didn't the All Star break used to be 3 days? I totally expected to watch a game tonight. With the wife out of town just what am I supposed to do now?
  14. I didn't get the reference until I read the quote. I really liked that movie.
  15. I enjoy reading the game threads the next day. LOL at all the posts already calling it a loss before the 9th, I had the same feeling. But when a team is on a roll the other team's shortstop boots a game ending double play ball and their worst hitter hits a bloop to tie the game. Yes the Masa line drive was frustrating bad luck, that's baseball, but the damage had been done and we stole one yesterday. Not sure I agreed with Tracy's strategy to play for 1 run in extras, seems to me you need 2, but it held up for one of the biggest wins of the year. Shame they are breaking while they are so hot but Duran certainly needs a reset. Wong is the correct answer at catcher, unfortunately.
  16. Yeah going into the season I saw Tolle and Early in the bullpen, and that sounded good to me as I was unsure about everybody except Whitlock and Chapman. But injuries as you said changed that plan. I just remember so many games early in the season when we just knew a lead in the 5th would not hold up as we saw relievers give it back. But clearly that has changed.
  17. I was shocked when I learned from the telecast that the Sox pen has the lowest ERA in baseball. Seems to be this has been a weakness until we got to Whit and Chapman. What a performance by Rivera. Seems like everyone they start these days puts on a good performance. I miss how much they ran the previous 2 seasons, but Duran has to get on base for him to utilize his speed and Hamilton is no longer on the team (thankfully). Regardless this sure is a lot more fun than it was in May.
  18. I know mocks don't mean anything but I can't really get excited about the 69th rated player being selected at 20.
  19. Yeah after he went to a personal hitting coach after the Red Sox coaches couldn't get him going. Honestly that is a big concern for me, our coaches can't get our players to hit better. It's actually the opposite. Who knows how many players they have screwed up?
  20. I just checked on this yesterday and sadly the answer is no.
  21. I can't disagree with the record. I can disagree that Tracy is the reason for the improvement. The hitters are hitting the baseball now and the starters have gotten even better. Cora didn't have players playing like they are now.
  22. I'm happy for Tracy, this is his big shot and I'm glad for him that the team's record is better. But I don't see him as the reason for the team's improvement, they are just now starting to hit the baseball and the starting rotation is one of the best we've had in recent memory because it's so deep.
  23. Yeah I can't give Tracy credit, this was all the starters and pen. When a team starts performing then suddenly the manager looks smarter. Tracy had nothing to do with Durbin turning his season around for instance. So happy for Sandoval after all he's been through, I don't think even he expected this. Just so weird to have a left handed dominated starting staff, and that's without Crochet. Boy this is fun, I was watching just because I always watch my team play. But it's different now, I feel these games really matter.
