  1. It's as if you didn't read my post. If you did you certainly did not understand it. I was not burying Roman Anthony and his future. My comment was all about the roster construction which appeared to be relying on a young player having a blowout season after playing 3 months in the majors. A season like the rookie Fred Lynn.
  2. Mayer's struggles at the plate should not be a surprise to anyone. I totally expected it, he has yet to prove that he can hit major league pitching and I'm not confident he ever will. That's why I had so many concerns about this lineup at the start of ST, not that I was alone. They were depending on players like Story and Mayer and I guess expected Anthony to be Fred Lynn and that always gave me concern.
  3. We already had qualified GMs turn down the Red Sox job because of the turnover at the position in Boston. I have no idea if this is on Brez or JH but firing yet another GM will be a bad look.
  4. I don't know what to make of this mess and who to blame. I only know that once again my team is embarrassing, after a lifetime of watching mostly winning Red Sox teams with respected organizations. I was a bit still in Cora's corner, he won a ring and that just carries so much weight with me. I'm not sure what a manager is supposed to do with a lineup incapable of putting up runs consistently. But he does seem to play bad players out of loyalty too often and I guess something had to be done. But I don't see anything saving this season.
  5. Well my summer is officially compromised. This team sucks and they will never be any good this year and possibly beyond. I used to proudly wear my Red Sox gear in Maryland as the O's sucked. Not any more. I'm so sick of these empty promises only to trot out a lineup that looks like this. I was skeptical but hoped that with solid pitching and (supposedly) better defense they could spend the season squeaking out 3-2 wins in boring games that at least will be close and offer some drama. Now I see no hope for this team in 2026. Bite me John Henry.
  6. What a relief to see Bello have a good outing, the bats came alive for the 2nd game in a row and they won back to back series. I've always felt a legit 1st baseman could have cut the infield errors way down and now we are seeing it, the previous first basement never helped out their teammate and salvaged an errant throw. Going into the season I was pretty convinced that Mayer would struggle offensively, he just hasn't proven that he can hit MLB pitching and lost so much development time. Anthony is one I can not figure out. If you aren't worried now when you put his bat with his inability to play the outfield then I don't know what you are thinking. This was not supposed to happen.
  7. Was there a rain delay? My recording didn't start until hours later and ran out in the 1st inning as I missed the best inning of the year and a good performance from Suarez. That was good to see but this team still sucks. After the WBC and the first game who had Anthony sucking for 2 weeks on their Bingo card? Just such a frustrating start.
  8. This was my take throughout the game. The worst part is Abreu will stop hitting soon if history is any indication. This situation appears hopeless, this team sucks. Again. Getting really tired of this and all the false promises during the off seasons.
  9. I know he got the big hit last night but I am so done with Trevor Story. He was to blame for that botched double play as it appeared as if he was going to take it so Mayer was getting out of the way. He is my most disliked Red Sox player in a long time, maybe ever. So little return for such a large amount of money. But man what a relief that win was. I too am nervous every time Chapman misses the plate, it could all come back. But so far so good.
  10. I'm convinced I could have made a better throw. And I'm 67 years old.
  11. After seeing throws up the line and nowhere close to the plate for a decade I'm pretty convinced that outfielders can't throw anymore.
  12. That throw was pathetic, how can you not drill a runner at the plate from shallow left field? But this has become so common, why can't outfielders throw any more? I see errant throws to home that are way off target virtually every time I see a game or highlights.
  13. I have been a Cora supporter. But he does tend to be too loyal and sticks with players who should not be out there. I have no idea why he continue to utilize Weissert the way he does.
  14. Every time I see him touch the ball he just looks like a really good defensive major league infielder.
  15. Well that was a relief. They needed this win, we all did. Not sure why Cora is so in love with Weissart, he always makes me nervous with his 9 blown saves last season. Really happy that Durbin finally got a hit.
  16. There is little doubt the skill of today's pitchers, and the hitters who have adjusted to these better pitches, is higher than it was in the 60's. But today pitchers train for 100 pitches, they are not expecting to ever go 10 innings unless it's the World Series. But that does not mean they are pussies. As for the IR perhaps teams take injuries more seriously today rather than "throw some dirt on it"? That's certainly the case with head injuries. With that said I've noticed for years how much more fragile baseball players are then other athletes. Seems like with every collision there is a guy hurt, some come out of the game. Football players play in so much more pain, they must laugh at baseball players.
  17. Maryland was a 4 seed and in the Sweet Sixteen a year ago. Then the coach and literally every single player left. So weird to watch my team for the first time and I didn't know one single player. But I knew enough to recognize a bad team. Kind of like what I'm watching on MLB Extra Innings every night now. I loved Fatts Russel. Len Bias was going to be so weird for me. I HATED the Celtics (and pretty much every team in every sport that wins all the time). I had no idea how I would have reacted to seeing Len Bias in a Celtics uniform. But you guys really lost out. He was compared to Michael Jordan but he didn't put the ball on the floor nearly as well. But he would have been a monster for the Celtics.
  18. I live outside of DC. We missed out on all the greatness. Worst stretch I've been through, even Maryland Basketball sucks now. But for most of my life I could always count on the Red Sox to be good. Not now.
  19. Fair enough, Contraras is not the main problem here. But with that said, and I understand he played catcher, he simply does not produce enough home runs from a power position. My figures were wrong, it included 2026 so that screwed up my averages. But he has only hit 20 or more HRs 6 out of his 10 seasons (understanding the 2020 season was not a season) and he has topped out at 24 HRs. And he's 33 and has hit .257 for his career and I happen to believe batting averages are still important.
  20. Quoting you to address the last point. For years now when they go into the 9th down a few runs they never make it exciting, they just lie down and die.
  21. Perhaps. His career OPS is .810. But he has also average 15 home runs a season from a power position. And he's 33 so his production is on the decline.
  22. I hate this lineup before the first pitch of the season. Far too many question marks and marginal starters. When you are counting on players like Trevor Story and Marcello Mayer to be solid players and an unproven talent in Anthony to provide a star like performance, when you already know your corner infielders are below average hitters and you don't have one single big bat that scares people, I see no reason to change my opinion.
  23. I never counted on Casas. I'm so done with Story. Now we can't even get a solid performance from our ace. I'm so sick of my teams sucking. All of them have sucked for years and this looks like another lost summer. F You John Henry. So much for "this offseason will be different".
  24. You mean like that guy in San Francisco?
