  1. Once again I find myself agreeing with Moon. We are all frustrated at the last series and that blown call. But it's not the end of the season, we have the inside track to the playoffs and a good shot at home field. I'm rooting for Toronto to win 2, maybe all 3. I want to see the Yankees miss the playoffs nearly as much as I want us to make it. All these games are local to me, the retired ride share driver. I'm trying to decide if I want to listen on the radio while I drive or wait as I have done all summer to get home and watch the game on DVR.
  2. Yeah no way JBJ made enough plays to offset his constant 0-4's.
  3. I was unimpressed with Seabold's 91 MPH heater.
  4. Nothing can be worse than 1986. But I too was a teen in '75 and to lose to the best team I've ever seen on a bloop single was just brutal. '78 was horrible after the collapse as my hero made the final out with the tying run on 3rd, but it wasn't the World Series or even the ALCS. '03 may have been the low point for me as a fan, it just seemed like it was never going to happen in my lifetime.
  5. And here I thought all this time that I was the only one who agreed with Grady at the time of the decision. From what I recall the pen could not really be trusted and I trusted a tired Pedro over those guys. Obviously we were both wrong.
  6. Yeah I'm in this camp as well. As I've been saying for a month I just don't trust Ottavino, and yesterday was another example of why. This is a very deep pen with a lot of options but the back end, the most critical innings, are a concern to me.
  7. Glad to see a response to one of my posts for a change. While I hear what you are saying, and I am in no way giving up on Dalbec, those numbers are a bit inflated due to his 2020. We'll see.
  8. When I saw the numbers on the O's starter I noticed his walks, I just asked that he does not hurt any of our guys. Sure enough we could have come out of that game with 2 broken hands. That guy is dangerous, and his annoying long pause really ticked me off so I enjoyed watching my boys light him up. I think we were all happy with Sale's initial outing. Nice to see this from Bobby but I'm not going to get too excited at bombs hit off of minor league pitchers. As posted earlier we've seen this from him before, then he reverts to form against legit MLB pitchers. JD and Bogey appear to be back!
  9. I though the same thing about Flemming. He had NOTHING but they didn't even get anyone up in the pen until it was 5-0 and the bases loaded. As for Valdez I think Cora just wanted to get to 27 outs without using up another pitcher. We sure do start at bats in the hole 0-1 a whole lot. I've aways been a Vaz guy, though I can see the argument the other way. But I didn't understand why he didn't get more rest during the season, especially for such a grueling position. I love Whitlock but he threw too many fastballs last night, he needed to mix it up more IMO. But man was that game a much needed boost for the team and the fans. It was just what the Sox needed. Bats are finally waking up.
  10. The pace of the game makes it unwatchable for me. That is why I record every game and use the FF button liberally. Sure I miss some dialogue and that has made me less informed than most. But I get home late from work (I drive for Lyft at night in retirement) and I'm not staying up till 3 to watch a 9 inning game. I haven't posted since the last loss as that was a ball breaker. Bats finally woke up but the pen blew it, just so frustrating.
  11. I said a few weeks in my first post back that if I never seen Marvin Gonzales take another at bat in a Red Sox uniform that would be fine with me. Last night was the final straw. I get that they have had injuries, and I guess he's the best defensive 2nd baseman on the roster. But he sure does not make enough plays defensively that the others would not to justify his bat in the lineup.
  12. We just need JD and Xander to do JD and Xander things. I do not believe they are tired, Cora has managed the work load. They are just not performing as we know they can perform, we had the same crap starters all year and up until recently they could overcome. Now I see Schwaber inserted into that lineup which will result in production in a spot that was a black hole. I firmly believe Sale will be a difference maker, if nothing else as I said even with managed expectations he will give them more than Richards or Perez.
  13. Some of you need to relax. They have hit a bad spot, it happens. Do you really think this lineup will continue to score 3 runs a game? I sure don't. The pen is still solid. Whatever we get out of Sale and Tanner will be huge upgrades over the starts we have gotten from, well you know the names.
  14. I have never turned my opinion of a player as quickly as I have with Kike Hernandez. I remember facing him in the World Series and I had zero concern, he never seemed to hurt us. I didn't understand the signing and surely didn't understand Cora's insistence on hitting him leadoff in the first third of the season. But watching him play all year you really can appreciate what he does. Far better CF than I expected, the best the position has been played since JBJ, and he can play other spots. Leading off the game with a home run is a huge psychological boost and he's done it a number of times. Don't mean to overstate it but that HR last night may have jump started the season again.
  15. Yeah I was just kidding. Not panic, just frustration. They need to start hitting and soon, as for Richards I surely hope this was his last start. I never want to see another Gonzalez at bat in a Red Sox uniform.
  16. I'm glad they stuck to the plan and didn't sell too many young guys and kept the pipeline intact. Love what the Yankees did even if it hurts now.
  17. I'm not ready to panic. A month and a half ago posters were looking at this stretch in the schedule and hoping to play .500 through it, then we'll be OK. Not sure what the numbers are but I believe they are still above .500 for this brutal stretch that will come to an end.
  18. I noticed this with Devers too, he takes a first strike on a lot of at bats. But the JD slump is so perplexing, and again I believe it's a slump as players rarely fall off the cliff in mid-season. That shot he hit to left center against the Rays I was sure was out, I mean it sounded like a home run but was caught at the track.
  19. So the theory is JD's bat has slowed since April? I don't know what's going on with him but I'm not read to throw dirt on him just yet.
  20. So I've gone from worrying that JD will opt out to worrying that he won't?
  21. Yeah I had asked this question earlier and not sure I got a response. Why don't they just plug Houck into the rotation? I'm also glad they did not gut the farm for quick fixes, stick with the plan and what happens this fall is a bonus. Question: What are the chances that JD opts out? In a weird way is it good that he has regressed instead of having a monster season in that regard? Or is JD's reputation kind of set in stone?
  22. Is Houk on a pitch count or something? Struggling to understand why he would start a AAA game and Richards will get another start.
  23. I see the endless Porcello debate continues. I prefer to discuss players who are on the team. How about the turnaround for Valdez? Before he went down he drove me crazy, for a time he was throwing one pitch nearly every time. It looked like a slider but I think they called it a change, breaking down and away to right handed pitchers at 86 MPH. Now he is mixing in more fastballs and it's helping. I always thought that was Barnes' problem in the past, he relied too much on the curve when he had a high 90's fastball. He seems to throw that more now but I'm sure someone will come up with the stat that disputes this. LOL.
  24. So happy for Verdugo, he needed that.
