    So the idea with all these trades is to find some GM willing to pay more than you are are for certain players, and/or who have players that you judge worth more than their previous teams are willing to pay. To make this work, all you need is a GM who is both better versed in economics and also a better judge of baseball talent than other GMs. How's that been working out the last five years or so?

    Isn't the problem w/ bringing up guys too early the same one w/ amateur athletes? Whether it's tennis or squash or even chess, everyone wants to play opponents who are better in the mistaken view that it will help them improve. It doesn't. Playing ONLY above your level gets you into very bad habits: in baseball, I assume, a lot of really defensive swings and tentative plays in the field.

    Didn't see it, but poor Dalbec must be completely lost. I thought he was having a decent spring, and now goes Daniel Bard on us?

    Yeah and Mookie went 1-6. Thank god we got rid of those guys!

    As owner or GM, I would count my cash, make vacation plans, and shake my head thinking "I can't believe my customers still pay money to see this cr*p."

    SpSp wasn't complaining about the RS success (a point you address here). He was complaining about their failures--i.e., their last place finishes.

    If large corporations and businesses hired and fired and set salaries on the basis of justice and fairness, we wouldn't need unions. However, they do not. Angel Hernandez is a very small price to pay. My attitude, whenever my bosses talk giddily about 'getting rid of deadwood,' has always been that I like to keep as much deadwood between me and the buzz-saw as possible.

    Manny was the best hitter I ever saw. And the catch, high five to the fan, and doubling the guy off first, makes up for any fielding deficiencies and history!

    Pretty sure Higgins was manager when Pumpsie Green was brought up. So also, Earl Wilson (of no-hitter fame). Also served as GM, right?

    Is Cronin responsible for that racist f*ck Pinky Higgins as manager? Who ended up in jail for DUI homicide? (THAT, I didn't know).

    Yeah, these division things suck. For one thing, the Red Sox don't get to play the Red SOx! WTF! Every other team in the division does.

    And of course the gigantic flag so all present can proclaim their patriotism and love of the military (the intensity of which is generally inversely proportionate to the amount of time these teary-eyed chauvinists actually SPENT in the service.)

    Curious what Max says. Piersall was my favorite player, but I'm told that Dom Dimaggio guy was way better.

    Sports boards have, or are imagined to have, credibility? By whom?

    I only saw one inning and it was Miller (?) throwing FB at 100, 101, and 102, and to a different batter, nothing but nasty sliders on the outside edge. 3 Ks I think. I assume he must not do this very often.
