  1. I guess a .210 hitter who is an average fielder and costs a tenth as much? (I have always loved watching him play, but I really just can't stand watching him hit any more.)
  2. Ouch. Even JBJ could have hit that (well, maybe that's a stretch).
  3. To what purpose? So that we can have this thread another year?
  4. If JBJ can't hit either of those last two pitches, he really should not be in the lineup.
  5. I have heard this type of thing suggested many times (was it here? on an NBA board? -- can't remember). But in all seriousness, do you have an example of a case where this has actually worked out? (It may well have; I just can't think of one right off hand; i.e., essentially a 'one year rental' player coming back to the home team).
  6. Ha ha! So when your boss says I'm moving you to Fairbanks for a year, but don't worry, I'll have you come back in a year--now don't you dare negotiate w/ any other employer, and don't sell your house; look, it's only a year and it's for the good of the company ... When your boss tells you that, you're fine with it?
  7. He meant Drew. (I made the association with the two JD's and AGon--all of whom performed EXACTLY as should have been expected, and were vilified despite that.) (My view based on RS history, although it's probably pointless to argue it, is that a lot of the anti-Agon talk was racist in origin. Not sure of this--did the RS have any Mexican-American players before him? I found only 3 or 4, who played briefly, none of whom I have heard of. Am I missing someone?)
  8. Oh sure. Replacing an MVP with a prospect equally good and less than 1/100th the price is simple. Why didn't we think of this earlier?
  9. The anti-JD criticisms remind me of those against Adrian Gonzalez (who hit his career-average w/ the REdSox, despite the claims that 'he didn't fit in'--gosh, I wonder what that meant?); or J.D.Drew, who also hit right on his average for the RS. JD's numbers are this year above his average, no?
  10. Bring back Pinkie Higgins!
  11. As Charles Barkley so wisely said, players care about 3 things: money, winning, and minutes ... in that order. I am also saying that Chris Sale is not a complete idiot: he would never accept the logic (nor would you), that his performance would be better if he were paid less. How would you react if your boss suggested that to you?
  12. I'd love to be at the meeting where you pitch this to Sale and his agent: "Look, we only have your legacy in mind, and you have ALWAYS played better underpaid. Forget about the market or what your team-mates make ..."
  13. Are you referring to the tough guy whose most famous bad-ass move was sucker-punching a guy (while in full pads and mask)? (The only good thing Carl Crawford did while here was calling him out for his "captain" b.s.)
  14. Yup. Just trade or waive Sale, Price, E-Rod, and Porcello, and oh yes, Barnes and maybe Eovaldi, and, you know, simply replace them with (or trade them for) a pitching staff that is better. You might have to eat a contract or two, but really, what could be simpler? (Oh yes, and of course, trade Mookie and JBJ for two better outfielders.)
  15. The collapse began in April.
  16. PLAYoffs????!!!!!!!
  17. This really feels like The End.
  18. Ha! Can't remember that clearly enough, because it wasn't memorable. Didn't they just throw Jerry Casales (RIP!) out there for 6 or so innings, then let Ike Delock come in to mop up? Maybe adding Mike Forneles to pitch in his 80th or 90th game or so?
  19. In my dealings with work, with institutions, and with life generally, I find that firing someone pretty much always works.
  20. Nice AB by JBJ.
  21. I think he means that with the foul pole further back (as it is in all other parks), the ball, however far it might have been hit, would not have 'wrapped around' the pole but would have curved well foul before it got to the pole.
  22. Ah. I haven't been watching closely enough. I just look at the corner and figure if the ball is there, he's not going to be able to hit it.
