  1. Defensively Ellsbury is stellar ... and so is JBJ ... and so is Victorino. Even if the Sox need to sign Ellsbury for 5-6 years ... it is 2014 & 2015 that we can use him the most. It allows the team to work JBJ into the bigs gradually. If Ellsbury can stay healthy in 2014 & 2015 Boston can move him for the remaining 4 years. There will be a contender in need of an experienced player like Ellsbury. There is risk signing any player but Ellsbury has proven that he will put in the work to return if injured. He is a class act.
  2. Ellsbury has never been linked to PED's ... WAR favors games played ... Beltre busted 3 of his ribs running into left field like a mad man. You have to be real here. Even if we took 80% of his 2013 numbers (he broke his foot ... remember ... same injury that sidelined Pedroia) his adjusted WAR is 4.64. Obviously you do not appreciate what Ellsbury brings to the team and his contributions to 2 world championships.
  3. Ellsbury has been linked to the Cubs, Yankees and Mariners. I think that the Cubs are too weak to pay for Ellsbury since they are years away from being contenders. The Mariners seem to have cooled on Ell's but you never know. Ell's is not a need for the Yankee's a team with a lot of needs. What cumulative WAR would Ell's have to provide to justify a 105M/6 year contract? I am fairly confident that Ell's can average a WAR of 4.5 for 6 years ... cumulative WAR of 27 along with other intangibles.
  4. I never said to pay him 120M. I think it is a little unfair to include his 2 injury years and his year 24 in your averages. Certainly not his two seasons with season ending injuries. Use the last 4 healthy seasons and his avg. WAR is 4.75. You certainly cannot penalize the guy for being steamrolled by Beltre. Exclude his rookie season and his WAR jumps to 5.43. He also provides a lot of intangibles that are not measured with WAR ... like how he messes with the pitchers head.
  5. Would love to see Cano sign with a team other than the Yankees ... it will have to cost them 4 games.
  6. Why no love for Ellsbury? He was a big part of 2 Championships ... how many Red Sox players can you say that about. He does not get into trouble off the field, he stays in shape ... he was seriously injured both times ... these were not the little nagging injuries that drive fans crazy. A great lead off hitter is a rare commodity.
  7. Who reported that he was tendered ... stop putting out false information people.
  8. ok ... I misread ... very funny!
  9. Interesting ... you might be right ... but will not average salaries continue to grow going forward? Why cannot Cano give the Sox Ortiz type numbers in his last 3 years? Cano might be more willing to bang balls off the Green Monster than Ortiz and he is a better athlete and in better shape. Cano has already proven that he can play and excel in a big market ... playing 1B should improve his offense as well.
  10. Come on Palodios ... that's cold ... Miller's injury was a freak injury ... the guy was having a very productive season before his injury ... was he not? I also heard that he joined a local Cross-fit class so he should be better than ever.
  11. ^ Very Funny!
  12. I made a mistake because in 2012 he split time between two teams. OK ... even with your numbers he is not worth 13M in 2014. Let's put it this way ... if it is true that the FO tendered Bailey at 4M + and Dempster is 13M = 17M+ ... Lets say we can sign Ellsbury at 108M / 6 years. 18 per. Now substract 17M from the Ellsbury contract = 91M / 6 years. 15M per. Seems like a better play to me. I would rather have Ellsbury at 15M for the next 6 years than to have Bailey and Dempster on our team next year.
  13. Really UN ... come on man. I know I know His legs are going to fall off and his bat is going to slow and his eyes are going to become weak and he won't be able to see ... and he will need a walker to get around the bases in 5 years. Let's say Boston pays him 17-18M for 6 years and it turns out that his value was = 18M for 5 of the 6 years. But he makes us a lot deeper and stronger as defending champs in 2014 and 2015. Oh well ... you and I will never see eye to eye on Ellsbury ... I value him as a premier lead-off hitter more than you do. I like Victorino but I do not see him as an Ellsbury to lead off the game. But .. remember ... I do respect your opinion.
  14. Maybe I am misinformed but I think Dempster is due 13M in 2014 and his 2013 WAR was -.2 he is old and washed up. I would rather give his spot to the rookies at league minimum.
  15. Thanks for saying so Fred ... the whole Napoli rumor I posted was directed towards you to begin with. I guess at the end of the day most all players are expendable. don't worry about UN ... he is a good guy and he makes a lot of sense most of the time.
  16. Yeah I don't get the Bailey play ... Dempster they will try to deal as they have 4 guys at league minimum who can deliver Dempster type results. Bailey was not good even before he re-injured himself in 2013. When is enough ... just that ... enough. And we are arguing about signing Ellsbury ... that 4M can go towards Ell's contract ... 18M - 4M = net 14M for 2014.
  17. How would you feel if the Sox signed Cano to play 1B for 200M/8? Happy, sad, angry, indifferent, pissed-off.
  18. This is true ... the reports are due this week in fact.
  19. Or perhaps Hart to replace Napoli.
  20. How arbitration works with injured players is a mystery to me. How about Bailey pay back the Red Sox for the last two years.
  21. UN ... I can see a lot of area's where we can pick up some WAR ... It just seems that if we keep Ellsbury that he can be good insurance and along with Pedey and Lester he can help with our overall transition from an older to younger club.
  22. OK MVP ... jump on in. VA called me a douche bag for playing around with Fred with the Napoli to Colorado rumor ... as I said if I had known she was a female I would have ignored her ... I thought it was a guy because women I know do not speak this way ... so I was just giving it back ... you know guy to guy ... if that is horrible then you probably never played on a sports team which is probably the case. Time for my nap. Adios.
  23. Fred ... you too huh ... as I said before what VA starts VA can finish. When I get her apology she will get mine. To be honest I am surprised to learn that a female started this rubbish. If I knew it was a female who started this I would have ignored her. I thought it was just another guy saying guy stuff.
  24. Who started this? Answer that.
