No problem about agreeing or disagreeing ... It is quite clear that our FO did not value Salty ... if they did he would have been signed don't you think? They could have had Salty back on a 3 year deal with a place for Vasquez in 2015 when Ross retires.
I think most fans would have preferred Hanigan ... I am sure that our FO tried to make it work with him but sometimes all the pieces don't fit. I would have preferred Hanigan on a 3 year deal but perhaps Cincy wanted too much in return for him
Yeah ... it makes no sense that the Tigers did this deal to begin with ... if they did something similar with Boston the GM could loose his job. Fister is a very capable pitcher and that was the best they could do for such a valuable commodity ... weird science.
Man ... I wish that the Sox were in on the Fister deal ... maybe they were but I would imagine we could have provided more to Detroit in return. Maybe Detroit did not want to deal with Boston.
Obviously the FO thought that this was the best option. Hard to make a judgement on the deal with the little information that we fans have. Vasquez is the future and a very bright future indeed. If you rush a player sometimes it can work against you in the long run.
Tigers Trade Doug Fister To Nationals
Source: Dioner Navarro to Toronto
Reports: M's, Willie Bloomquist close
I am getting tired and anxious as other teams are making things happen. Great deal for the Nationals.
Another Catcher off the market.
Another super utility guy is gone.
Ahh ... Jose Canseco ... was attacked viciously by the sports writers when he came clean. Turns out that he was telling the truth all along ... not just about himself but everyone involved.
Well ... your comment is clever but in reality it all comes down to money. Hanigan will come cheap compared to Salty and he will make our pitching staff better. If you loose offensive players as FA's the best way to make it back is by improving your defense.
I agree ... choice # 1.) Hanigan choice # 2. Vasquez. Hanigan on a 3 year deal would be terrific ... as this will be the last season for Ross.
I would like to see the following players inked for 2014:
1. Hanigan
2. Napoli
3. Ellsbury
We can repeat with these signings.
I like that idea. Although many times the base is stolen on the pitcher not the catcher ... take Dempster for example ... only 1 CS for the entire season with Dempster on the mound. But your point is well taken ... Ross can mentor Vasquez throughout the season.
We could have lived with the AGon contract ... not AGon the person ... but if necessary we could have lived with AGon and his contract ... it was the silly Crawford contract that was the Albatross. A six year contract with Ellsbury takes he out to age 35.
I will tell you one thing ... I would be transitioning Mookie Betts to the outfield ... Center or Left ... I do not think he has the arm for right. This guy could become the next great lead off hitter. JBJ can always be transitioned to left as he projects to be a 15-20 HR kind of player.
