  1. I love how when a player uses a negotiating tactic with the Yankees, and then doesn't sign with them, Yankees fans get all bent out of shape. Cole "lied to the Yankees outright"! How dare he do what every draft pick with a brain cell does.
  2. That's not really comparable, the Yankees threw $8 million at Brackman to get him to sign after they failed to sign Gerrit Cole. That's not happening under the new rules. I would be surprised if Sheffield signs, but the front office must think he has a chance of signing since they drafted him in the 13th round.
  3. Bolded Littrell, should be interesting to see what his signing bonus is. He actually has some leverage.
  4. I haven't been able to find much about him, but from what I understand he won't count against the International Free Agent spending pool money for any teams. The international free agent signing period opens in less than three weeks, perhaps it's time to make a thread. We've been connected to a few guys.
  5. Yup. Unless any of us know Cherington personally, it's pointless to try to speculate on how his personality might affect what happens behind the scenes. I judge GM's on the product they put on the field, not whether I like their personality.
  6. Bolded Austin. He watched BP with the team today and is now on his way to Boston to sign. Bolded Drehoff Bolded Gunkel
  7. Have you watched him pitch on television this year? He's been getting his fastball up to 94 mph in most of his starts, including today.
  8. Colon hasn't looked particularly sharp today. He's allowed his season high in walks. He loaded the bases in the first, but Youkilis and then Overbay popped up in foul territory to let him off the hook. Some of this has to be on the Yankees offense, which has had a .289 wOBA since April.
  9. I don't think he'd be throwing mid-90's if he had a tired arm. I just think this is the pitcher that Lester is at this point in his career.
  10. Yankees announcers were saying that Sabathia has come out and said that his elbow feels great, he just doesn't think he's going to be a pitcher that throws in the mid-90's anymore.
  11. Sabathia's sitting 90 mph and topping out at 92 mph on his fastball again. So far, he's given up five earned through four innings against the A's.
  12. I love Overbay in the outfield. Looked like he was expecting help from Cano there in right field.
  13. I don't see why he wouldn't require overslot money. He was ranked the 17th best prospect in the draft by Baseball America and he was drafted 33rd overall. He's also coming off a bad year by his standards, and could probably improve his stock by going to his home town college in San Diego. In the past, the Yankees have drafted Jonathan Gray and Gerrit Cole but failed to sign them. And they both increased their stock dramatically by going to college.
  14. Ian Clarkin, who we both agreed was the best talent the Yankees drafted, has said it will take "life-changing money" for him to sign with the Yankees. It's hard to imagine a scenario in which the Yankees fail to sign Clarkin and have what would be considered a successful draft.
  15. Thanks, I'll bold them.
  16. If previous years are any indication, we'll sign something like 85% of our top 25 picks and then pick and choose 2-3 of our bottom 15 picks that we most like and/or have the most reasonable demands. It looks like we're going to have plenty of room to sign Denney and have money left over. I still don't think we'll be able to sign Sheffield, but we might be able to sign a second overslot guy like Longhi.
  17. I have "inside information" that Speier will sign on Thursday.
  18. Spot on. Lester velocity and peripherals are continuing to trend downwards. And with the new draft system, draft picks are more important than ever. The next year and a half should give the Red Sox plenty of time to develop Webster, De La Rosa, Ranaudo or Workman in to a major league caliber starting pitcher. If not, there are a lot of qualiy starting pitchers who will be free agents in 2015.
  19. It obviously wasn't a good outing for Bailey. But he was facing the hottest offense in baseball, he was getting squeezed by the umpire, and the double play Longoria hit in to was a weak bouncer. It wasn't hard hit at all. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/location.php?pitchSel=457732&game=gid_2013_06_10_bosmlb_tbamlb_1/&batterX=&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=
  20. Plus, they got Michael Wacha as draft pick compensation. I love the Cardinals, they're such a well run organization.
  21. I have a friend who played against Asuaje, he said he's a "vacuum" defensively. He's more known for his hitting.
  22. This is a relatively weak draft year, I would much prefer to have the picks next year.
  23. Signing Rumors Kyle Martin ‏@KyleMartin32 7 Jun. Just gotta sign some papers to officially become part of the Boston Red Sox! So blessed and thankful to have this opportunity! @kileymcd: Red Sox sign 11th rounder 2B Carlos Asauje from Nova Southeastern for about $100k. Small 2B can really hit, modest overall tools. Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA 40s #RedSox 2nd-rder Teddy Stankiewicz's bonus is an even $1.1 mil. Seminole State (Okla.) JC RHP can run FB to 96 mph, SL to 85. #mlbdraft Not Signing Rumors 20th round pick Boldt reportedly not signing. 22nd round Burkamper reportedly not signing. 38th rounder Morrison reportedly not signing.
