  1. Yeah, that's what mlb.com's scouting report says as well. 6'1, only 170 pounds, throws mid 90's but not much in the way of quality breaking pitches. Another two way player, the Sox love those.
  2. Another former Mets pick, don't know much about him.
  3. From what I've read, it's been difficult to peg O'Neil's hit tool because his approach at the plate is so bad. He's striking out three times as much as he walks, which is really high for a college guy.
  4. O'Neil's a very toolsy guy. Still a pretty raw bat for a college prospect though, he has a pretty low floor.
  5. Definitely the best value they've gotten this draft. Possibly one of the best values for any team this draft. I'm sure they'll try him out at catcher, but the Sox could also use a power hitting first baseman. If he doesn't work out at catcher, he should shoot up through the system relatively fast for a high school guy.
  6. Actually, it's the opposite. Great pop times, strong arm, was well below average at receiving the ball this spring.
  7. You must be reading scouting reports from before this spring. If he was still regarded as a good defensive catcher, he would have been drafted in the top 10.
  8. Love the pick this late in the draft. Don't think he'll stick at catcher, but I was hoping we'd get a decent hitting corner infielder since we don't really have much quality at first base in the system.
  9. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/56830/cut-the-kid-some-slack
  10. Keith Law picked the Yankees as day one winners, so you know they had a bad day. Keith Law is probably the only guy I know of that has prediction powers to rival jacksonianmarch. His mock drafts were a joke. In his last two mocks, he had Moran at #1, Appel falling to the Sox at #7, Frazier falling to #13 and Stewart falling to #16. The only thing he said that I agree with is that Clarkin is the best talent the Yankees drafted.
  11. "I just let my advisor handle all that stuff. I’m not saying whether I’m signing or not. The draft is going to determine that for me." -Serrano from two days ago http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2013/jun/05/wil-crowe-kyle-serrano-prepare-for-mlb-draft/
  12. Most of these players say they're going to college. Serrano's a little different because he's committed to Tenessee and his dad is the coach there.
  13. Serrano, Denney, Crowe and Brentz are all still on the board. Draft re-starts at noon, Sox pick 8th in round three and 7th every round after. Serrano's probably the best talent, but he also comes with major signability issues.
  14. I'll ask again, which member of our rotation needs "shoring up"? Jon Lester has the worst peripherals on the staff, are we sending him to the bullpen?
  15. The Sox need to change his drop and drive delivery, but that's an easy fix that typically adds velocity. Add in that this guy is already throwing in the mid-90's as a 190 pound 18 year old, he has a plus changeup and scouts are ranking his curve (which he's only thrown for two years) as a potential 60 pitch. Then consider that he's a tremendous athlete with a clean bill of health who has only begun to tap in to their potential playing short seasons in Indiana. They got exactly the kind of high upside talent they were looking for. He was ranked a top 10 talent by pretty much everyone. I said it before the draft, and I'll say it again now - Austin Meadows doesn't impress me. There are questions about his ability to stay at centerfield and it would be a waste to draft a potential corner outfielder with a top 10 pick.
  16. I wonder if the Yankees panicked after they picked Clarkin and he then said multiple times how much he hates the Yankees. Seems strange, even as a money saving move. Much like I said about the Twins drafting Dozier, there was better talent out there that could be had on the cheap.
  17. He's an interesting pick, an elite defensive second baseman. His hitting is still a work in progress. Has minor signability issues.
  18. Yeah, he would make sense for the Yankees at 66.
  19. It doesn't look like he'll be able to stay at catcher.
  20. Rays are having a good draft. Stanek and Unroe both fell to them and they took advantage.
  21. David Eckstein looks like he has a mohawk, but it's really just a very awkward balding pattern.
  22. There aren't really any talents left that we would be saving money for. And our first round pick shouldn't have any signability issues. The Red Sox must have really liked him. Red Sox know more about these guys than I do, so I'll just have to trust them.
  23. The first pick's good. He's an 18 year old, 6'6'', 190 lb lefthander and he's already throwing in the mid 90's. Plus changeup. No red flags whatsoever. The second pick seems like a waste. There was much better talent available.
  24. And the Mariners just drafted Austin Wilson. Damn, he's the guy I would have taken instead of Stankawhatever.
