  1. High school lefty, throwing 91-94 at age 18. 6'6'', and only 190 pounds, so he projects to add velocity. Has an advanced curveball for his age. Comitted to Texas, and they haven't traditionally been a college that it's difficult to pull people away from.
  2. Should have known the Sox would take a two way player.
  3. Well that was unexpected...
  4. He would be a big signing risk for the Yankees. They'd have to either blow their budget on him or not give him the money he wants. We have more slot money, which is why he would have made more sense for us.
  5. Moran would have saved us money later in the draft to go after someone like Manaea.
  6. Damnit. Not crazy about Meadows or Shipley. Wouldn't be surprised if the Sox take Stanek now. Of the three, Shipley would excite me most.
  7. I like Frazier on a personal level, but Moran is a better player. Please take Shipley, Marlins!
  8. Wow, the Sox would take Moran in a heartbeat. That would save them money for later too.
  9. Moran to Cleveland maybe?
  10. Kohl Stewart is a Josh Beckett fan? Glad we didn't get him.
  11. As expected, Frazier most likely for the Red Sox.
  12. So now the Twins take Stewart... or the Red Sox get him.
  13. MLB fired the arbitrator who decided in favor of Braun, and replaced him with someone they think will be tougher on these guys. I think most of these people will be suspended by the All-Star break.
  14. Just curious, who do you guys envision these starters replacing in the rotation? Jon Lester's 3.70 xFIP is the highest of anyone in our rotation. Are we going to give up on a 25 year old Felix Doubront as a starter because he had two bad starts?
  15. He's definitely an important witness. In fact, he's probably the ultimate authority on Biogenesis. But he's also one of many witnesses and a paper trail and I think MLB is particularly interested in him because he knows what players all of the code names stand for in the documentation. And that's important so MLB knows which players to investigate more. I expect this entire process to be a s*** show. It's quite possible MLB gets some of their suspensions upheld and some of them overturned. And I expect the appeal process to be long and dragged out. I believe they only have one arbitrator, so all of these cases will need to be heard one at at time.
  16. I would be pretty surprised if Bogaerts is promoted before the Eastern League All-Star game on July 10th. Usually there's a bunch of promotions after the All-Star game.
  17. Baseball America recently named Bogaerts the hottest prospect in baseball and had this write up on him. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/prospect-hot-sheet-june-6-xander-bogaerts-big-bat-leads-the-list/
  18. I realize FPCT is a flawed stat, but do you have any better objective measure of his defensive ability? Iglesias and Viquel aren't comparable, they were known for great range and Bogaerts is not. They're also the same exception to the rule players that people bring up as if it proves anything. No, you're still wrong about trading Drew. If we trade Drew at the trade deadline, it saves us $3 million. You really think it's worth $3 million to roll the dice on someone who's completely unproven at the major league level? We're nowhere near the luxury tax threshold, it's not like money is an issue. And what do you expect Drew to get us in return? A bench guy, maybe a middle reliever?
  19. Bogaerts will have about 100 AB by the time the trade deadline arrives. But even if he had 500, you don't trade your starting shortstop because someone in AAA is doing well. The comparison to Ozzie Smith is ridiculous. Smith had great range and his FPCT is the exception to the rule. Yankees fans said the same thing about Eduardo Nunez, and now he has a -15 UZR in the major leagues.
  20. There's no way we trade Drew because a guy with a .940 fielding percentage is OPSing .900 in 100 at bats at AAA. You're getting way ahead of yourself.
  21. Don't be ridiculous. Is Bogaerts OPSing over 1.000 in AAA? Do we have an actual need for a shortstop now? You're comparing the Middlebrooks situation to what you hope is going to happen in the future with Bogaerts.
  22. It's pretty much the opposite of the Middlebrooks situation. Middlebrooks had 96 games at AA and 40 games at AAA, where he was hitting .333/.380/.677, and he was called up because we didn't have anyone to play third base. Bogaerts has 70 something games at AA, no games at AAA, and we have two players who can play shortstop. Bogaerts will be promoted in a month if he continues to hit. If he then hits at AAA, he'll be called up in September. If he then hits in September, he has a chance for a spot on the playoff roster like Ellsbury did in 2007. This isn't rocket science.
  23. It would be awesome if the Sox could sign a sure thing like Moran, who would sign for cheap and then pay a little more for an high risk, high reward guy like Manaea later.
  24. He has a fielding percentage in the .940 this year and over his career. He still has work to do, it's not something that would be ideal to "sort out in the majors", especially considering we already have two shortstops there. You've yet to give one good reason we it would hurt to be cautious with him, and multiple reasons have been provided why it would be good to be cautious.
