  1. We've gotten much better, we're now 7th in the league in wOBA against lefties.
  2. Doesn't make sense to call up Bogaerts when he's slumping.
  3. We should trade for BJ Upton, his brother is really good.
  4. You are now on my ignore list. I literally can't remember the last time you made a baseball related post.
  5. For the third time, the home runs aren't the issue. What happened to the great defense he was playing in 2011? If Ellsbury was playing elite defense, he would be one of the most valuable players in the league even with an average offensive season by his standards.
  6. This proposal is terrible. You don't trade the next Hanley Ramirez for a 31 year old #2 starter.
  7. At the time I said Ellsbury was a disappointment, he was hitting .298/.361/.404 with a .336 wOBA. The last time he was healthy and had a year worse than that was his rookie year in 2008 when he hit .280/.336/.394 with a .323 wOBA. I didn't expect him to hit 30 home runs, or even 20 home runs. But I also didn't expect him to have the lowest ISO of his career as a 28 year old (again, not counting partial seasons). And I was expecting to see the elite defense we saw in 2011. We've seen average defense and virtually no power. He's still a good player, he just isn't one of the most valuable players in the league, and it's not because he's not hitting 30 home runs.
  8. Olney is reporting that the Cubs are advancing in trade talks regarding Matt Garza. They're reported to be talking to the Rangers, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Guardians and Dodgers. He also reported that Brian Wilson expects to audition for teams in late July or early August. He would be a nice pickup, we have plenty of salary flexibility and he wouldn't cost prospects. We were connected to him earlier and he's a New England native.
  9. Who said anything about being disappointed he's not hitting home runs? I'm disappointed that up until yesterday, he had bee having his worst offensive season since his rookie year and he's in the prime of his career playing for a contract. Also, his defense has been average. He's basically about as valuable as Brett Gardner. He's going to get Carl Crawford type money and he's just not that good. There's no way I'd sign him in to his mid-30's if this is the way he's producing in the prime of his career.
  10. When it comes to prospects, there's quite a bit of randomness, but I would say that Cecchini is the better prospect. Cecchini has a much more advanced plate approach as evidenced by his .320/.421/.477 slash stat in the minors and it looks like both of them will have spent the majority of their age 22 seasons in AA. The book is far from written on either one of these guys though, Middlebrooks is only 24 years old.
  11. The last time he was healthy and had this poor of an offensive season was 2008. I expected more from him considering he's in the prime of his career and playing for a contract. He's been a lot better lately though, hopefully he can have a better second half.
  12. Obscure joke, but it's still funny.
  13. Doubron is far from a "hole", he's been an above average pitcher. 4.22 ERA, 3.87 xFIP, 3.68 FIP, 3.99 SIERA, 103 ERA+. You really want to give up prospects to get a pitcher who will probably do worse? Speaking of pitchers, the Mets just DFA'd Brandon Lyon. He might be worth taking a flier on for some bullpen depth.
  14. In a perfect world, of course it's always nice to be able to add to the team. The issue is that adding to a team is never free.
  15. 4.5 game lead in the division. We're sitting pretty.
  16. We're already good enough to make a run. We have two #1 starters, two above average starters and plenty of depth. If we were in need of a starter to make a run, that would be different.
  17. Denney played in his first professional game for the CGL Sox. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI and stole home.
  18. Pleasant surprises - Lackey, Iglesias, Carp Disappointments - Middlebrooks, Hanrahan, Ellsbury Mike Carp is a guy who really interests me. He's making $500,000 and he's under team control through 2016. I realize his BABIP is over .400 right now, but we don't have any first good base prospects in our system. If Carp could manage an OPS near .850 for the next few years he could be a cheap, valuable first baseman.
  19. Yeah, unless we can acquire a number one starter type, I wouldn't waste resources on a starting pitcher. We've got Aceves, Webster, De La Rosa, Ranaudo, etc. as depth. It would be nice to add a righthanded power hitter, but maybe Middlebrooks could be that guy and we could use Carp at first base. It would also be nice to add a reliever, maybe De La Rosa could be that guy. It would also be nice to add a middle infielder off the bench, Bogaerts could possibly be that guy. This isn't a team with a whole lot of glaring needs. We have upgrades that could be made, especially another reliever for some depth. But we have multiple internal options to fill those kinds of roles. I'd give it until the end of the month to allow issues to present themselves before we give up anything of value to try to fix them.
  20. Who would Garza replace in the rotation? Lester's our only starter with an ERA+ below 100, and in my opinion it makes more sense to stick with Lester and see if he can work things out. I can't say I'm expect him to. But I also don't see Garza as much of an upgrade.
  21. What an exciting race for fourth place!
  22. So you're basically arguing over whether or not 2 mph is a significant loss of velocity then? Because I never stated Sabathia couldn't overcome it.
