  1. Maddon's gotta be pissed. That's bad fundamental baseball to throw through there.
  2. Meh, there are plenty of other quality bullpen arms out there.
  3. My head hurts. I hope this was sarcastic.
  4. Relax, no one was talking about you.
  5. Hahaha, this is spot on.
  6. Jung, please stop making stuff up about the Buchholz issue. Zero reports said anything about Buchholz being sore from inactivity, yet you claimed that's what Dr. Andrews said. Now you're speculating about who ordered the test, how Buchholz feels mentally, and when the Red Sox would like him to throw again and treating it all as fact. Can we please just stick to things that are actually reported? This Buchholz situation is confusing enough as it is.
  7. Why would we trade a relatively cheap front of the rotation starter? That doesn't make any sense unless we're rebuilding.
  8. This will look like a bargain when Cano, who is a year older, gets paid nearly twice as much for the same level of production at the same position. Since Pedroia's first full year, he he's compiled a 33.3 WAR to Cano's 32.5. Which even if you don't take WAR as a gospel, strongly suggests his value is at the very least similar.
  9. This is going to be fascinating to watch play out. Between the threats of a lifetime ban, accusations of A-Rod attempting to interfere with the investigation and the insurance angle the Yankees are pushing, this is going to be downright Machiavellian.
  10. Serious question. Did anyone actually say that?
  11. As always the case with stats, no one stat should be used to judge a pitcher. Stating that pitcher x unlucky or pitcher x is better than pitcher y because he has a better xFIP is no different from saying the same thing based on any other one stat like wins or strikeouts.
  12. xFIP isn't always reliable when it comes to pitchers in transition such as Lester or Sabathia since they often see ballooning home run rates coinciding with their decrease in velocity.
  13. Seems reasonable. The roughly $14 million a year salary seems like a fair trade off for having him under contract through age 36. He's averaged well over $20 million a year in WAR dollars since he became a full-time player.
  14. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Cano's headed to free agency either way. And the way the Yankees used to operate simply does not work anymore. Thanks to new TV contracts, more and more teams can extend their home grown players and compete with teams like the Yankees for free agents. And thanks to the new CBA, there are spending limits for the draft and international free agents and tougher sanctions for going over the luxury tax threshold. The Yankees can't simply outspend everyone else and expect to make the playoffs every year under the current rules.
  15. The Yankees would benefit from that in multiple ways. Not only would they get prospects for guys like Cano, Kuroda (does he have a no-trade?), Hughes, Logan and Chamberlain but they would also greatly improve their draft position next year.
  16. Completely agree on Young. He's had a -1.1 WAR since the start of 2012. So I'm not sure he'd make sense even if we didn't have Bogaerts, Middlebrooks, Holt and Snyder as third base options.
  17. There's still time for Ranaudo, De La Rosa or possibly even Steven Wright to emerge as the preferred sixth starter. But I agree that what we've seen from Workman so far is very encouraging. The Rays are a very good offensive team, some ballpark independent stats suggest they have the best offense in baseball. And Workman looked great against them. I also agree that it would be nice to pick up two relievers. A quality two month starting pitcher rental seems prohibitively expensive in terms of prospects considering Buchholz is expected to return, Doubront has improved and we have some backup options already in our system. But I would like us to sign Brian Wilson and trade for someone like Addison Reed, Jesse Crain or Francisco Rodriguez. We don't need a world beater closer, just a solid set up man who won't cost too much of an overpay in a trade.
  18. Apples to oranges. If Wright was two months away from free agency, I guarantee the Mets would trade him. Whether or not signing Cano to a long-term deal in free agency would be conducive to long-term success is a whole different debate, we're simply talking about whether the Yankees should get something for Cano's remaining two months with the club or keep him with the hopes of competing with him this year.
  19. Sounds like MLB may be planning on suspending A-Rod longer than Braun.
  20. It sounds like the speculation of the Dodgers giving him a $50 million deal was a fabrication. The Dodgers are reportedly out. http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130723&content_id=54440330&c_id=la&tcid=tw_article_54440330 Who knows what we might get out of Gonzalez if we sign him. I've heard some reports that he's major league ready, so an immediate contribution isn't completely out of the question.
  21. Joel Sherman reporting that the Cubs scouted Yankees prospect Chase Whitley. Also states the Yankees feel they have a surplus of young, right-handed relievers such as Claiborne, Kelley, Betances, Burawa and Kahnle.
  22. I'm sure the Yankees could get a huge package for Cano, but I doubt they're smart enough to do it.
  23. Let me know when you're willing to concede Sabathia's in decline.
  24. At no point was it reported that there was actually a trade. The two sides are discussing a deal, but it's reportedly not close. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-chicago-cubs-alfonso-soriano-yankees-20130723,0,5149488.story I understand the luxury tax manipulation, but Soriano doesn't seem like a guy worth giving up anything of value for. He's 37 years old and he's essentially a league average hitter at a position most teams try to get above average production out of.
  25. I'm pretty sure this is another one of your dead pull hitter observations.
