  1. Good and timely thread E1. I would think that this is a good year to sell, if we can find buyers. If we can unload some of the more expensive contracts like those that Beckett and Lackey have, we ought to go for it. Youkilis still has value, and when he departs at the end of the year we will get less in return, most likely, that if we traded him in July. I would also not hesitate to put Lester on the block as well, and Saltalamacchia, of course. Buchholtz too. Yeah, I know that we will rape our starting pitching this year, but look where these guys have gotten us for the past few years: nowhere. I am not advocating giving anyone away (except for Lackey, who I would give away to anyone who is willing to take on his contract). We should be getting quality in return for each trade. Time to flush this toilet though...time to retool.
  2. Thats one of the dumbest posts I have seen here in a while. 70-45 is .608 baseball, or 99 wins in a season. Absurd. We are an average team that will probably play average baseball for the rest of the season. Why? Because our pitching stinks.
  3. And that was an understatement. Missed all but the very beginning of the game. This was a huge win, make no mistake. If somehow Barney Fife can come through with a good effort today against a pretty mediocre Rays offense we have a chance to take the series. The Sox ought to be able to score off Hellickson
  4. Good start for Beckett. He will need to keep that up until deep into this game. I would think that 2-3 runs wins this game. Whoever blinks first loses. Have fun......real life calls.
  5. Goal tonite: drive up Price's pitch count so we can get into their pen early. Price is very tough sometimes. Don't worry you two....not much longer. You will both miss me
  6. In any event, MLB.COM has seen fit to BLACK ME OUT for this game, and its not on TV. So soon you guys and gals will have to do without my sunny disposition here for the game...and for tomorrow's game too as a house full of people will interfere with my participation here.
  7. A guy who gets paid like he gets paid needs to put up consistently excellent numbers. Gonzalez is taking this year off, apparently.
  8. Did you look at his numbers this year?
  9. Gonzales is pathetic. We got the worst of that trade too.
  10. He has traditionally been a slow starter, and his ERA of 4.72 reflects that. Its hard to know for sure where he will end up, what kind of pitcher he really is. I agree that he is not this bad; I also don't think he is a sub 3.50 ERA pitcher, a dominant pitcher, any more. On a contending team he cannot be labelled their ace. More like a #3-4 SP for a contender, #2-3 for a bad team.
  11. I think that, unfortunately, there is an excellent chance that we will get swept in this series. If Price is on his game today he is better than Beckett. And tomorrow we have Barney Fife the Head Case going for us, and his ERA is in the stratosphere. Not real optimistic about taking the series, a series we really have to win.
  12. I said the same thing, just more sarcastically than you put it. Its going to take at least a year to see who won that trade.
  13. For the record, I like BTR. I love his sewermouth tactlessness. And I am not going to be the one to hold him to his promise to take a month off this board if the Sox are not out of last place by June 1, or whatever the details were for his vacation.
  14. Back into a corner again. We now MUST win the next two games, and in one of those, Buchholtz is pitching. We could easily get swept.
  15. You cannot wake up a corpse.
  16. Gotta admit that I cannot hate the Rays. These guys have come up from being doormats with a budget that is less than a quarter of ours to beat the snot out of our arrogant overpaid entitled overrated guys. They want to win; they have heart and play like it in front of fans that don't appreciate them. Too much respect for that franchise to hate the Rays. I reserve all my hate for the Yankees.
  17. Got Buchholtz on Sunday Elk....something to prepare for. Be sure and apply your scopalamine patch early.
  18. June 1 is in one week. My bet is that we will still be in last place and not above .500 by then.
  19. He knew exactly what he was doing there. Scott is an a-hole who had a lot of negative comments about the Red Sox fans.
