  1. Nice that our ST SPing is doing OK. But IMO it would be a miracle if they finished above bottom third in the league. Just wondering what management meant by "going full throttle".....in reverse perhaps?
  2. I'll join you if we don't finish in last place again in the ALE. All the other teams in our division are better than we are. Finishing last is getting very very old
  3. I disagree. If I am looking to buy a baseball team I don't want one with a sky high budget. I want in inexpensive one with a great fan base- a team that I believe I can mold into a winner with an appropriate investment in money and management talent.
  4. Eventually I don't think he will have a choice. Another last place finish this year is likely and its not like we have a plethora of SPs that are worth anything in the minors. I hope that the fans vote this year with their feet and force Henry's hand. We deserve better.
  5. I don't think we get Monty. I think that Henry is planning to sell the team and is reducing budget to make the team a more attractive investment. And I sure hope he succeeds because this team has become a joke.
  6. Do you think that Cora is the only manager to ever condone cheating? My guess is that it happens more frequently than we imagine. He just got caught. He paid his dues for his crime. If he ever gets caught up in any way with cheating-either participating in it or condoning it-he should be banned from the game for life.
  7. You misunderstood Henry. He meant FULL THROTTLE........................in reverse.
  8. I don't think a strong bullpen is going to be of much use when our SP totally sucks. Coming in to relieve a SP who has put the team in a 6-0 hole game after game is a recipe not for a mediocre team but for a team that stinks. We'll see how it all plays out but right now its looking like we are the weakest team in the ALE.
  9. They are saying so.....with their actions. They aren't going to say so in words for the media to digest-ever.
  10. Sure seems that way (running the team like Tampa north). Remember: the Rays finished in the cellar for years and years. They were a joke. Meanwhile the developed their farm system and produced some top tier talent for whom they paid very little. They are also a well run organization, unlike the Red Sox. I am expecting another unwatchable team this year and for many years to come until Henry either sells the team or opens up his purse.
  11. Even if they do mature into stars we STILL don't have the SPing nor, apparently, the will and the wallet to correct that. The only language Henry will understand is EMPTY SEATS at the park. When Fenway starts to look like the Trop as far as attendance goes he will get it.
  12. I was more referring to SPing, but you are right: those relievers are certainly decent. That said, RPs are a dime a dozen out there. We have Bello as a good SP. Beyond that there is basically no one dependable. And I don't see us getting anyone this year=we will suck again and finish in LAST PLACE AGAIN. Henry needs to sell the team. Its obvious that his commitment to winning is gone.
  13. We such because NOT ONLY has Henry turned cheapskate but also because our farm system has not produced any pitchers of note (aside from Bello) for years. Can't win without good pitching. Its going to be another stinker of a year and the worst part is that there is no end in sight.
  14. And on January 8 every other ALE team is better than us. I recognize the fact that its not a finished product but clearly we are not off to a good start in terms of acquiring the kind of talent we need to compete in our division.
  15. As the team is now constructed every other ALE team is better than we are. Henry may have already given up on this season.
  16. One guy is not "the management". Obviously he didn't get the job done without the rest of his Tampa management team to help him out.
  17. Yamamoto has the pedigree to be a top line SP. We were never even in on him. Snell would certainly be an improvement over what we now have. Lets see if we can snag him or if Henry will continue to tight wad the team.
  18. Tampa obviously has much better management than we do, don't they. We can't afford to go into the season on the cheap because our management sucks. How many good SPs do we have in the pipeline? If they aren't there then to avoid yet another last place finish (because right now every team in the division is better than we are) Henry is going to have to open his wallet and fortify our SP.
  19. The best way to improve the overall SP is to start at the top, not dumpster dive for a #4 who might work out. Getting a top flight SP moves the entire chain down a notch in terms of expectations. As far as I can tell the best remaining SP is Montgomery-a decent SP but not an ace. Two last place finishes in a row and a third likely should cause the fans to vote with their feet.
  20. True enough, but our most pressing need is a #1SP. Who is left out there on the FA market who could fill that role?
  21. Nope. Not every time. But spending on players in order to make the team competitive is more likely to be successful than the cheap route that Henry is obviously taking. Two last place finishes in a row and likely another one in 2024.....is that acceptable to you? This is not a small market team. It doesn't need a small market budget-but thats likely what we are getting.
  22. Maybe not, but it certainly hasn't worked out over the last few years, has it. And by all indications this year is shaping up to be yet another stinker. Who exactly is the "ace" of our staff now-the SP who can reliably put an end to losing streaks? The only language Henry is going to understand is empty seats at the park.
  23. I think he IS telling the fans what the plan is: tighten spending. You can build a good team on a tight budget but its a lot harder. Its easy to spend Henry's money, isn't it. Time for him to sell the team.
  24. Didn't say it NEVER happens. We went from last to first too. Are you expecting it for next year?
  25. A relevant team (ie a playoff team) isn't likely us next year. Its very rare to go from a last place stinker to competing for a ring. Its going to take at least a couple of years to construct a team that is a serious contender for a ring. I would settle for a decent team next year, one worth watching. Low expectations....
