  1. I would trade Betts now. I have said that time and time again. I just see him slumping as the previous prospects before him in his sophomore season and his value drops so far that he could of pulled us in a starting pitcher we need. Peedy is here to stays for years to come and hell he plays all the time hurt or not. So he is blocked at playing 2nd. The outfield is a log jam. Hanley is gonna be in left that's a given unless Bogey sucks it up. Betts don't have big enough bat the play there. They just signed Castillo and he is to play CF but is said to be a Five Tool player well I can see the argument of allowing him hit in the bottom 1/3 of the lineup to allow him to adjust. Then they have JBJ in the minors who is gold glove defense and if he hits just a lil with the power in this lineup his glove may fit. So I don't see Betts playing there. Only spot I see is right field. But Victorino is said to be healthy and between him, Nava, & Craig one will have to hit for some power and be more of an asset than having Betts hitting at the top of the lineup. A platoon of two of those players will be more productive than Betts alone. His value is as high as it will ever be and now is the time to move him. I could be totally wrong I'm no expert and I will definitely eat crow if Betts comes in a adds the spark to this lineup at the top that we need. I see the leadoff as Castillo spot to lose. Why pay him that much if hes not up to it? It's gonna be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks. I see the Sox trading before they sign Shields in my opinion. I'd do both but that's a pipe dream. I'd say Hamels will be a Sox before it's over. I'm not saying he will fair well in the AL east but I think Ben makes that trade.
  2. Pedroia's health is a big issue. But 1st off I couldn't imagine the Sox without him and 2nd trading him for one year of Zimmerman is not smart. Peedy is the heart and sole of this team, hurt or not he is the emotional leader alongside Papi. His power numbers are definitely down, but I hope he comes into camp health a starts hitting doubles off the Monster this year. I think we should just sign Shields now and then throw the propects out there at the deadline and bring in a #2. Hamels, Zimmerman, Strasburg, Price and any other top tier pitchers will cost too much to make a trade now.
  3. Wade Miley is lefthanded. And he will be in the starting rotation. So four righties and one lefty.
  4. If Xander don't show something this year then the Sox won't have to worry about paying a Boras price in a few years. No excuses this year for Xander.
  5. Agreed. Bill James had to be behind them adding all pitchers who throw low in the zone. I just wonder how long it will be before Shields signs now? I see the Nats holding onto all their pitchers for this year and blowibg it up next year. But if Shields falls to say someone like St. Louis is my guess, I'd say the asking price for Hamels will go up even more. So the FO is gonna have to make a move if they will add someone before the season because the price just heated up more with Scherzer off the board.
  6. Scherzer deal reports 7 yrs of work and 7 years after he's done pitching... so it's 14 years 210 million.. WTF
  7. Thank you Pal I didn't see the nontender I thought he was still under contract. He is coming off Tommy John will he be serviceable at the start of the season?
  8. What do think the Rangers will take in return?
  9. Do you think the bullpen is now set with Craig Breslow in fold? Or do you think they are one piece away from a shut down pen?
  10. Id say it happens. Too many people know and are writing that he won't field a competitive team with the orioles so not to have to compete against that team when he goes to Toronto. I agree with all the speculations and I think once the compensation from Toronto to the Orioles for Dan is worked out its a done deal. I just think matters are getting pushed faster than both organizations would of liked since this got leaked and is putting more pressure on the Orioles to get him out so the fan base feel if you don't wanna be here get your s*** and get out.
  11. Amen Pal. I see so many saying bridge year. Ok f*** the bridge. This is the red sox not a small market Tampa Bay type that nickel and dime to be competitive they are to compete every year. I want to think a big pitcher will be added in the near future. Does anyone know the day ticket sales for this up coming year? Ofcourse Hanley & Panda will be on the stub but I'd say that if a pitcher is the be added it will be before then to add that pitcher photo in the middle of the two sluggers on the stub. Tickets may have already come out tho I've looked a couple of times on Stub Hub and all it says is TBA so if theyve already been printed I'm totally wrong about adding an ace.
  12. The tigers will definitely have power hitting and a dangerous lineup that may lead the league in HRs, unless the old men on the Yankees stay healthy and hit the most out over their softball fence in left field.
  13. Report is D-backs are in on Shields Well sorry but he will hold out till a legit contender calls. And the D backs will contender no time soon. But hey they have RDLR and Webster probably slotted into the back end of their rotation next year, may win 10 games between the two of them. We definitely won that trade even if Miley is mediocre we still won I hated watching Webster with every once of me.
  14. Not saying that you directly said trade for Price or Zimmerman , User Name I was just using your point for a trade for a top tier pitcher with only one year of control left. Just to clarify
  15. I'd like for the team to sign Scherzer 1st and foremost but I believe he goes back to Detroit. So as User said if David Price were to be traded I'd like the Sox to make a run at him but I honestly don't think he wants to be in boston. Too much hostility and friction. Or if Scherzer goes to Washington I'd like Zimmerman and I think he could be resigned. But if Boston could throw a 4 year 116m at Shields he may take it. 24m aav. With maybe an mutual club and player option for the 5th. I think Shields is looking to land at a place to win a world series. He knows no matter what he's gonna get paid he wants the ring most of all. If they want to pony the money up for Scherzer I'm all for it. If not look at Shields and if he or a trade that don't sell the farm can happen a trade can be made at the deadline to get a top tier guy if the Sox are in contention then next year with soo many coming off the books 2 legit front of the rotation guys can be signed. I'm hoping Bucholtz can finally get the s*** together and he and Porcello can be #2s. I was wondering who everyone thought would be the opening day starter? I'd say Fareel will put Bucholtz on the mound on Opening Day. But I'd love to hear other arguments.
  16. I still feel like teams are feeling out the market for Scherzer before they make a move on Shields . If max can be had for 165m or 175m, it in my opinion would be smarter than 110m for Shields. I think the red sox are in on everyone to some degree at the right price and contract. I still see him going back to Detroit but I think Boras is just waiting and waiting and having private meeting with teams on his client. Don't get me wrong I like Scherzer and Shields but Scherzer is the legit ace and has less wear and tear on his arm than Shields as far as innings pitched. Hes younger and he shut the red sox down in game 1 of the 2013 ALCS. He is the ace we have needed since I would say Pedro retired.
  17. I read that as well. I'd say Heyman got sobered up and realized not much news that he will drum up some. Just one report could stir the market and make teams get in faster than they want. I'd like to see Scherzer to the Sox. 6yrs/150 with a vesting option for a 7th at 175 total would get it done probably. Sign Zimmerman next offseason. Rotation done for the next 5 plus years.
  18. I keep seeing people talking about next year's FA starters. Well who cares this is here and now and if they don't add a legit #1 this year it's just another year of Ortiz, pedoria, hanley, panda, and all the rest getting older. It's stupid in my mind for a club like the red sox to throw a year away and not address a need that is a major need. I say sign Scherzer and be done with it. Add one of those FA pitchers next year and the rotation is solid for years to come.
  19. Hanigan for WMB is stupid in my opinion. WMB is worth more, dumb trade on Bens part.
  20. Gallardo would have to wave his block due the the fact the red sox on his no trade list.
  21. This offseason as far as saying we are not in on Scherzer is kinda like the Yankees saying they are not in on anyone and swoop in a get top players. All journalist have been on every sports show and radio saying that the red sox are not going after him and won't shell out the money to get him. Well if they would shell out 135 for Lester and 120 for Sheilds why is it so far fetched to think that to get the #1 for years to come in Scherzer at say 7 years at 175. Why not. I know that's a s*** ton of money but think about it. Hes anyones game 1 starter, and coming out ahead in any series is basically priceless. Going to what User said earlier, It's Only Money. I like keeping our prospects as good as anyone, but sometimes you have to know when to fold em. I like the idea of Jordan Zimmerman as much as anyone that has been mentioned this offseason. If he's available and Washington needs a second baseman if it takes Betts and Zim agrees to an extention I hope Ben pulls the trigger. Also I think it's weird that everyone knows we need to #1 and the main man is Scherzer. The FO did s*** the bed in the Lester whole process but wouldn't it be the ultimate bitch slap to sign Scherzer and have Larry, Tom, and John saying f*** You John we went after a true #1. This FO is butt hurt now and they know the fan base is tired of them spending on the soccer team and going bargain high ceiling shopping on the baseball team starting pitching and hope the propects pan out and hope the fans drink the Kool aide. It may just be a pipe dream and it probably will be. But, I'd rather all the experts be like they are in on him than say no way in hell. Too big of need for the #1 ace and if they have spent this much on position players what the hell is the big deal with giving Max 25 million per to go out and give 17 - 20 wins per season and give us game one of the World Series. This team, FO, fans, and the city are not looking to just make a playoff appearance they are there to win it all. I hope in the next coming weeks that it shocks the world when the opening line in the paper is Max to the Sox.
  22. I hope this happens. I'd rather the Sox give Zim 135 million instead of Lester anyday. I was big on resigning Lester but young controllable pitching is the way of the future. Giving these 30+ pitcher 120 million + and 6 or 7 year deals and expecting it to work all out is crazy on any teams account. It took me a long time to realize that but I can kinda see where Ben is heading this team in regards to pitching. Not to say I like all the moves but I see the intent of the madness.
  23. It may be a good play to sign Shields now and at the deadline add another front line starter when most asking teams prices are down. With the reports of how ben feels about the additions it would suprise me if he adds two more starters before the season.
  24. Id rather keep Craig IMO. Never been a Lohse fan. I still see a starting pitcher being added before spring training to be the ace. If Shields price gets too high and Hamels asking price is too much I could see Ben making a trade for a top of the rotation guy that no one thought was available. I also hope Sergio Romo can be added to bridge to Koji or if he sucks can become the closer or set up Mujica. I'm just not sure what Romo's asking price is. And I have seen that teams have inquired but I have seen a years and dollars ballpark guess. Anyone seen anything?
  25. Reports say that the Marlins and Brewers are talking about trading for Allen Craig. I like the idea of holding onto him if Napoli isn't fully healthy after surgery and as back up if Hanley gets hurt we have a log jam of players but not a lot with power in the OF if Hanley goes down... JBJ no power, Nava he'll hit maybe 10 per year, Vic may hit 10, Castillo is a unknown he has to prove he can hit for power, Betts no power if he hits 5 hr this year I'd be suprised. Craig would be a nice younger version of Johnny Gomes for us I'm hoping.
