  1. I still thinks this deal hurts the offense and unless we dont know some.clubhouse drama and Hunter wanting out then i still think with the prospect haul and the JBJ money added for basically a platoon bat with above average fielding. Makes no sense. Classic Moneyball line "He gets on base." JBJ doesnt get on base. Dumb.
  2. I honestly dont understand this one. If it was a cap issue was it really needed to add one or two of Paxson, Hill, Wacha? Replacing his 31hrs with a guy that hit 6 for defense makes no sense. Hate the deal. Can bloom press the UNDO button. He.must been drunk waiting on the lockout and.wanted just one more WTF red sox story line.
  3. Are they in on Sonny Gray? I seen a report that the red sox were continuing their streak of mediocre pitching signing. Is bloom hoping to stand pat and hope to strike lightning in a bottle with one of the young kids or two of them to fill out the rotation?
  4. Ok with the deal.being dead who is going to be the 5th starter? I really like that Cal Quantrill which was involved in the trade rumors
  5. Is this trade still being negotiated or is it dead
  6. 1st off i love Mookie in boston, generational talent. But mookie in boston @ 12/420 no thanks. One player in todays game doesnt win championships. Mike Trout is the best player we have seen in years and hes not won a championship so yes the game is team and not individual. I think 10/300 is market but big money for long term deals never works out good and franchises suffer for years because of them. So say you tried and mookie just wanted to go year to year well this is boston and we aint letting you go to the highest bidder next off season and just get a draft pick. I love the dodgers prospect. Hes a cocky kid that can f***ing hit and he hits the opposite way off the wall all day and his bat is going to play well in boston. Controllable and a potential 20hrs/30sb guy at the top of the order. Peter gammons put out a lineup the other day and i still think we will contend because hopefully the yanks all get hurt and we need a solid #3 starter and use the twins guy in the setup or closer roll and get under the lux tax and reset and then spend spend spend next year. I think the deal gets done with the dodgers adding a mid tier high reward SP prospect and the deal gets done.
  7. with money saved on signing Moreland instead of Homer does that open money up for a reunion with Nunez and a SP
  8. Does it hurt that Stanton went to the Yankees? Yes Did he want to come here? No Did DD make a push for him in Boston? Maybe some reports we may never know the truth With him and Judge in the Lineup together that's a lot of power, but Judge strikes out a ton and Stanton has proven that he is hurt a ton. I think if we keep to core intact and Sign JD and Hosmer or make a trade for Machado and leave Hosmer out will are still in the catbird seat in the AL East. Our pitching is light years better than the Yanks and if we have Erod, Price, and Porcello back to 2016 form and Sale being Sale then one 5th starter is a must. That's a lot to fall into place and a lot of health but it is possible. If we sign Nunez that's just a plus til Peedy gets back then he turns into a super utility guy. My best case is Sign JD to DH Sign Logan Morrison 1B Sign Jake Arrieta Save on 1B money and put it into other areas, let Hanley and Morrison Platoon and if they can get Nunez for cheap then so be it.
  9. Sign JD to DH Tell Hanley he's the everyday 1B use the money on a 1B to bring in another SP so we dont have to depend on Steven Wright as out 5th starter I'm just not a fan of Hosmer or Santana and I like our outfield the way it is now and I think it would cost too much to trade from that core to the White Sox for Abreu. I like the idea of Brentz as the 4th OF he will add some pop I'm not sure about his defensive metrics what they are
  10. Well never mind Gray to the Yanks for disabled list prospects
  11. My point was not about contract if he stays or opts out. My point was on the here and now. Our rotation going for the Series this year is top heavy. Sale is a monster and Drew Pom has looked good. EROD and Price injuries have hurt their effectiveness. Porcello and Fister are a lose unless we mash and without a big bopper in the middle of this lineup I think we have a huge hole. Reed helps the bullpen and if Smith and Kelly come back that will continue to be our strength. Make a trade for Gray and Alonso and make a run for it this year. It will take a haul but with Devers up and keep Groome out of the deal put put the rest of the farm for sale and roll.
  12. I wish DD would swoop in a grab Sonny Gray away from the Yanks or whoever else in the mix. Let's face it Price is probably on the road to Tommy John surgery in the future. And I'd like another RHP that's not named Fister or Porcello in the playoffs and plus he'd push us from having to watch Wright's Knuckleball next year.
  13. Do we have the pieces on the farm to pull a Gray, Alanso from the Athletics and Nunez and Strickland deal off?
  14. The Athletics just set their price for Gray with the Yanks and have set scouts to watch New York's AA team. DD just having something big in the works. If like a Alonso, Gray trade and call up Devers and say here ya go. I like the idea of Wilson from the Tigers as the 8th inning guy. But I'd have he will need a haul to fetch him.
  15. I just read that Ryan Howard was in search of a chance of a World Series Ring before he retires. I know he's old 37 season upcoming, and his batting average and strike out are awful. But my question is with his power and LH swing would he take a 1 yr contact at low cost to get a chance to compete for a ring. With all the questions of Pablo at 3rd and not knowing if Moreland will be able to let Hanley just be the DH then why not. It would be awesome if he would take a minor league contract with an invite to see how it goes. Could be a bust given, but could be a power LH bat we need at low cost.
  16. This is awesome!!! Who pitches opening day now?
  17. I understand that Aaron Boone played for the Yankees but now as a commentator he is a bias mother f***er. I though John Kruk was bad but bad this is ridiculous.
  18. Let's say we have to play into the one game win and your in game... who do we start as of right now? Price or Porcello? I'd say right now we put Porcello in there. Hopefully Price gets his s*** together. I know some will say maybe Wright as an option as well, but I honestly hate to rely on a knuckleballer to get us into the playoffs. I think that's why DD is pushing so hard for another ace type starter. I'd like to add someone like Edison Volquez he's a free agent at the end of the year and won't cost any big name prospects. And if Sale or anyone else of ace caliber is able to be had it will be in the offseason. I'd rather trade Moncada than Betts for an ace pitcher. The killer B's need to be locked up long-term. I'd say let's just hope Price can turn it around and Erod Porcello Pomeranz & Wright can hold it together... Bucholtz will probably slip in the shower and hit the DL before the deadline I'm just waiting.
  19. WTF I turn the channel for a sec and then I come back and it's 8 to 5 with no outs and 2 on. And Robbie Ross pitching now this is crazy.
  20. Welcome to Boston Drew Pomeranz!!! This is what the best offense in MLB looks like it puts runs on the board in bunches. I love the throwbacks. 8 runs in 3 innings is awesome.
  21. I honestly think it's wrong to judge this deal until Drew pitches his 1st game on Wednesday. I can remember when that Casey Kelly was involved in the A-Gon trade. So much praise so much talent to send for an elite 1B who was to rake at 1B for us for years to come. Well how did that work out for us? Kelly was and still is a bust A-Gon was a clubhouse cancer and signed for big bucks and thank God that the Dodgers who still hasnt made the big show since the trade took him off our hands. Hanley was said to be a cancer but no such reports. His power is down yes but all the fears of him being a bad teammate never came about. If we go to the world series and win in Papi last year it will be awesome. But if we don't we can't say that DD didn't try. All I'm saying is let's see what happens before we circle the wagons. Let's no judge a book by its cover. Let's hold judgement if he gets blown up Wednesday and for the rest of the year then by all means let's talk about what a bad deal.
  22. Agreed. That's why I say grab him up now. Bring him to Boston and let this offense throw runs on the board and he will produce wins. Give him an couple games to get his stuff back together an then you have Price and Gray to headline next year with. Erod is coming back Friday and hopefully pitches #5 caliber atleast. Porcello has been quitely good all year. Wright has been the one that has suprised everyone and hopefully can stay strong to get us to the playoffs. And maybe Bucholtz, Owens, Johnson, Barnes, Kelly, or another addition can help out with spot starts and give us a win here and there. Gray is the one with the best stuff at the lowest price now in my opinion. Give up one big piece thats not named Moncada and 2 or 3 more very good players and call it a win. With the way deadline trades go who knows what Billy Bean will want. I have full confidence that DD will make a splash and get big Papi to the playoffs. This is one of the best offenses if not the best in the majors it doesn't need a starter that throws one run ball they just need someone to keep them in games early. I like Gray over Hill and hope they give the pieces to get him.
  23. What do you think it would take to get a guy like young ace.... I see Gray and the only one that we could get without the other team asking for One of the Killer Bs. I'd say if the move can be made and it will get us to the playoffs and maybe the world series then you make that move.
  24. I think DD makes a trade with the A's but I think it will be for Sonny Gray. The pieces that Billy will ask for Hill with him considered one of the top Deadline arms will be high and maybe one or two more pieces will land Gray. If DD is going to give up upper class minor league pieces I'd hope he'd just swing for the bigger fish. Gray's numbers look bad but he's pitched well, his offense just hasn't helped him in my opinion. Bring him to Boston and let this offense put up their norms and he will be a splash.
  25. I'm 6'6" and pitched in college at the University of Tennessee and when I was getting ready to sign the paperwork to commit, a pro scout from the Phillies came up to me and a couple of my buddies while we were taking fly balls in the outfield and asked us to remove our sunglasses so he could see our eye color. He looked and wrote down the other two guys. Then he looked at me and saw I had blue eyes and he said "damn son, that's a shame" I asked why he said that and he explained that a blue eyed boy has a harder time dealing with sunlight. I was like is that really a knock on me? He said absolutely because will all the talent across this county and abroad everything in under the microscope. He sat behind home plate for my next two AAU starts and then 1 for my high school and he came back up and asked if I thought I could play 3rd base or RF and I asked the coach and he slide me to those positions. After I signed with UT he asked if I thought I could add weight over my 1st year of college and fill out to gain velocity. Well long story short I walked onto to University of Tennessee campus 6'6 175lbs and after some hard work and a few questionable supplements I gained 30lbs during my freshman year during one game I was scheduled to pitch against AZ state JV team I was throwing balks with the outfielders and I had a sharp pain in my elbow and sure enough it was a torn UCL and my hopes a dreams were gone with it. The point I'm trying to make is everything is judged on you from 6&7 yr old baseball all the way thru youth ball and then the microscope gets brighter in high school not to mention if you play AAU ball and then coaches or scouts try to mold you into the player they want you to be but most kids body can't handle that day in day out ware and tare. That's why only a select few make it to the show. It takes genetics, ability, drive, and just sheer luck in my opinion.
