  1. Hellickson's FIP and xFIP are virtually identical to Matt Moore's. They're also getting Alex Cobb back in a few weeks. Price-Cobb-Hellickson-Archer is a downgrade, but I don't think it's cataclysmic. However, this is assuming Moore misses the rest of the year. Maddon thinks he will be ready by the next Rays homestand, so there hasn't been any indication that the injury is serious.
  2. I think they give Bogaerts another month in AAA, and then he gets called up in September. This is just speculation, but I bet Young could have been had for next to nothing. I think the Red Sox FO has to be thinking that Bogaerts is the best solution at 3B.
  3. I think they are deep enough to withstand a loss to Moore, even if they lost him for the season. His peripherals suggest he's been a slightly above average starter this year. I think there would be a loss, but not that significant. What's the drop off between him and Hernandez ROS? 6 or 7 runs? Might be enough to catapult Boston over them, but that's only if he misses the rest of the season.
  4. The Rays have five off days between now and August 22nd. They can use a four man rotation until he gets back. This isn't that big of a loss for them.
  5. I don't know how you can make that leap based on the Norris trade. They may not have a deep farm system, but their best players are under control for at least the next two years, they have two elite pitching prospects in Gausman and Bundy, and they have virtually no long term financial commitments. They'll be able to keep their core intact, and have the financial flexibility to add players around them. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the $110-$120 million range with the new TV deals and increased attendance at Camden Yards. They are in good shape.
  6. Hoes is a corner without much power. I think he's more of a 4th OF type. I like these moves for Baltimore. They made small upgrades without sacrificing their core. Norris and Feldman are both upgrades over Garcia and Hammel, and Rodriguez gives them another quality late inning reliever. They aren't good enough to win the East, but I think a two win bump is a realistic projection from all of these moves. That might be enough to put them in one of the Wild Card spots.
  7. They have a pretty solid core in Machado, Davis, and Jones. Gausman and Bundy aren't far from being ready either.
  8. True, but the Orioles' farm system is not that great. They didn't give up any impact talent.
  9. Depends on how long he's on the shelf for. I think the Rays have enough depth to compensate losing him for a few weeks.
  10. He walked 4.6 per 9 in 2012, and he's got 4.9 BB/9 at AAA. Nothing more than a throw in.
  11. Lottery tickets.
  12. Throw in. Another AAA reliever with control issues.
  13. He's not wrong.
  14. I doubt it is anyone significant.
  15. ERA isn't the best indicator of pitcher quality, or future success.
  16. Any team that wants Santana would have to consider that the Royals can QO him, and net the draft pick. They'd have give up at least a top 10 prospect for Santana.
  17. FIP - 4.82 xFIP - 4.27 WHIP - 1.45 FIP - 4.09 xFIP - 3.68 WHIP - 1.14
  18. Prince Fielder
  19. This is an extreme sellers market. Middlebrooks alone doesn't get the deal done.
  20. Don't you think that Cano's agents know that the Dodgers could do that? They aren't going to sign before he's allowed to negotiate with other teams.
  21. He's played 2B before, not sure about SS.
  22. I'd give up Brentz and Workman, although I still don't see how he fits a need, unless Buchholz has a bigger issue.
  23. Read that the Cubs are asking for the last and best offers for Garza. What would be the Sox best offer? I wouldn't give up any of our top 8 prospects for him.
  24. Not much worse, considering Holt/Snyder are replacement level players.
  25. What do you think about Oliver Perez? We probably could get him for cheaper.
