  1. Smith to the Pistons.
  2. Bogaerts played 3B the other night. I wouldn't be surprised if he's our everyday 3B when the season is over. Middlebrooks is making a case to be called back up, too.
  3. RED SOX (51-34) Ellsbury CF Victorino RF Pedroia 2B Ortiz DH Nava LF Carp 1B Saltalamacchia C Snyder 3B Iglesias SS Pitching: LHP Jon Lester (8-4, 4.61) PADRES (40-44) TBA Pitching: RHP Edinson Volquez (6-6, 5.50) Red Sox -200 tonight. O/U is 10 runs. I expect a high scoring game tonight.
  4. Three years isn't a major commitment to a player, so I'm not too concerned about the length of the contract. In 2014, they have $87 million on the books, so even with the addition of Lee they'd be comfortably under the cap. In 2015, that number goes down to $29 million. I think they have the financial flexibility, and the surplus of prospects to make a deal if they want to. Maybe you guys would prefer Chris Sale?
  5. He's probably average in the AL East. However, he's a big upgrade over what they've been trotting out there every 4th and 5th day.
  6. Interesting to see that fangraphs projects the Red Sox to finish with 93 wins without any upgrades. That makes them the best in the AL. A title window is opening up here, and I think we should make a big splash to increase those chances.
  7. Not at all. I just think it takes time getting accustomed to a new format. I like the What's New? feature.
  8. They have a really solid front two of the rotation. I'm just nervous that Lester/Doubront/Dempster would be starting two games in a playoff series.
  9. I don't really see a need for Garza. The Red Sox need a clear upgrade in the rotation, and I don't think Garza is one of those. It should be Lee or bust. They should be focusing on adding another high leverage reliever like Jesse Crain. Maybe they go after a 3B, but I think they should be bold and promote Bogaerts to play 3B.
  10. RED SOX (50-34) Ellsbury CF Victorino RF Pedroia 2B Ortiz DH Napoli 1B Gomes LF Saltalamacchia C Snyder 3B Iglesias SS, Pitching: RHP John Lackey (5-5, 2.99). PADRES (40-43) Forsythe 2B Denorfia RF Quentin DH Headley 3B Blanks LF Guzman 1B Hundley C Amarista CF Ciriaco SS Pitching: LHP Robbie Erlin (1-0, 3.60). Red Sox are huge favorites tonight at -210. I think Sox roll in this one. 7-3, Red Sox
  11. Middlebrooks, Webster, and another prospect should be enough to land Cliff Lee. That being said, I highly doubt he's traded.
  12. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/orioles-upgrade-with-scott-feldman-cubs-continue-stocking-up/ Good trade for both teams.
  13. What's next? A Ray Lewis joke?
  14. I think the Jays buried themselves with the slow start, and can't possibly play to this level for a long period of time, but they have a lot of talent. Their offense is above-average is about to get a huge upgrade at SS when Reyes gets back. They are 5th in MLB in bullpen ERA. The starting rotation has been their achilles heel all year, but they are showing signs of improvement, and Dickey, Johnson, Buehrle have good track records. However, even if they played .580 ball the rest of the way, they'd still wind up with only 87 wins. That might get them a wild card, but I think they are too far behind Boston to come back.
  15. I think Miller puts too many people on base to be considered a closer, but he's missing a LOT of bats this year. 14.88 K/9. xFIP of 2.13.
  16. I'd rather rent Jesse Crain, than pay Papelbon $39 million, but why is no one talking about Tazawa and his 38/3 K/BB ratio for the closer position?
  17. Tampa Bay has been a punching bag for us this year. Does that help at all?
  18. Toronto's won 7 in a row, and they have Reyes returning very soon. They are 4.5 GB in the Wild Card hunt.
  19. Iglesias and Middlebrooks probably start the season there. Bogaerts probably replaces Middlebrooks a month or two into the season.
  20. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1677558-assembling-jonathan-papelbon-trade-packages-from-the-red-sox-tigers-cardinals/page/2 LOL Ranaudo, Bradley Jr., and Tazawa for Papelbon. Why not just make Uehera or Tazawa the closer?
  21. Not a lot of people at the game.
  22. Trevor Bauer is awful.
  23. Roy Halladay will be 37 years old next year, coming off a shoulder injury. Can you name many successful old pitchers with shoulder problems?
  24. The rotation already looks pretty full next year.
  25. It certainly would have caused a ripple effect. We would have needed another starter, and we probably don't sign Victorino.
