  1. On to the 18th.
  2. Gibbons is a genius. Use a pitcher who hasn't pitched since 2011 in a 3-3 game.
  3. 21 balls, 9 strikes. Wow.
  4. Nice inning. Got two back.
  5. Buehrle mowing down the Rangers. 3-0, Blue Jays.
  6. I think the Rangers need a bat more than they need Cliff Lee.
  7. His command is the bigger issue.
  8. If the Tigers add a solid closer, they'll be hard to beat in October.
  9. Going with a Red Sox sweep at +170.
  10. Taking Blackhawks to win Stanley Cup, so I might have to eat two.
  11. There's no way someone goes that high for Napoli. Sox should let him walk if someone offers that.
  12. For the rest of the season, ZIPS projects Lee to produce a 3.4 WAR for the rest of the season, with an ERA of 3.07. Steamer projects him at 2.9 WAR, with a 3.28 ERA. His HR/9 will certainly normalize, but he keeps runners off the bases, so I don't see that causing a dramatic spike in his ERA. He gives us top of the rotation production for the rest of the year.
  13. Where do you get the 4.8 mph drop? PitchF/x suggests that he's down from 0.9 on his two seamer, and 1.5 on his fastball.
  14. The established price for a rent-a-star is usually a top prospect, and a few fillers. I wonder much impact Lee's contract has on his trade value. Would you give up Webster for him?
  15. Missing the playoffs the last three years has hurt ticket sales. A deep playoff run in October can help correct that problem, and having Cliff Lee in your rotation definitely improves your chances of winning a World Series. He's lost some velocity on his fastball this year, and is still dominating. I'd take the gamble and offer the Phillies salary relief. He won't cripple the team financially, because a lot of their cheaper players are getting ready to assume larger roles. Iglesias, Middlebrooks, Nava, and Bradley will probably have starting jobs, and make the minimum. Lavarnway potentially could be our starting catcher. The rest of the team is pretty much locked up in 2014. The lone exception would be 1B, and maybe a few bullpen holes. If our cap is $189 million for 2014, I think we can afford to take Lee.
  16. Probably Doubront. I think the desire to add another starter has to do with wanting a pitcher who can shut down the opposition in October. I don't think we need a Peavy or Garza. I think we try to land Cliff Lee, or don't make a move at all.
  17. Rotoworld on the selection of Trey Ball.
  18. He's not going to retire. $100 million is too much money to pass on.
  19. Usually why these deals never get made. I think Stanton will be around for two more years.
  20. I think Gomes is here for one more year.
  21. I'd trade both of them in a deal for Mike Stanton.
  22. Haha, almost at the over in two innings.
