  1. An extra 2,000 seats per game is pretty significant for a team with an operating income of $19 million. You also have to consider increased local television revenue, merchandise sales, the ability to increase ticket prices, playoff tickets, etc.. The Celtics have doubled in value over the last 10 years. Would Grousbeck gamble on a short-term loss for the potential larger gains of a contender? Maybe he dumps Pierce, Garnett, Rondo, and Terry and cuts enough payroll to remain profitable, but that raises another issue. What is the impact of a rebuild on ticket prices? I think it rests on how bad the Celtics would be next year. Would you release Pierce and trade Rondo? What would a starting lineup look like without them? Bledsoe, Bradley, Green, Sullinger, Jordan? That assumes that the Celtics won't add anybody via trade, the draft, or free agency. What would your starting lineup look like in 2013-2014?
  2. I think they should do it, because the Celtics aren't going to win an NBA championship with this group. However, the Celtics have been selling out since 2007, and every year (with the exception of the lockout) the value of the franchise keeps going up. They still have a reasonably competitive team, and plenty of star power. That should be sufficient to keep people going to Celtics game, and forking out $68 for the privilege. Unless they get completely overwhelmed in a deal, I don't see them making this trade.
  3. Drew might fetch a prospect back from the Pirates or Cardinals. He's still owed some money, and he's not playing well this year, so I don't think the return would be pretty high.
  4. Yankees load bases, Wells promptly grounds into a double play to end the inning.
  5. Buchholz and Lackey are well above average. Dempster is OK. Lester will probably not be a 6.00 ERA pitcher all year. Doubront has an xFIP of 3.70 with a BABIP of .358. He'll probably improve to at least average. With the number one offense in baseball, good defense, and a strong bullpen, the Red Sox aren't going to fall off a cliff.
  6. Two well above average starters, two average, and one slightly below. Rotation isn't elite, but it should get the job done.
  7. Offense and bullpen are still strong. We still have three average starters.
  8. I would play three outfielders right on the left field line when Machado bats.
  9. Getting the Pirates/Dodgers game down here. It's getting delayed by rain. Instead of showing another game, they show Everybody Loves Raymond.
  10. I'm guessing because he isn't Lyle Overbay.
  11. Adams, Overbay, Ichiro in the 9th. LOL
  12. Not a good start for the Bruins
  13. Missed that call.
  14. Forgot that Tommy Hanson sucks.
  15. 1-0, Angels. Probably enough for the win with that spring training lineup.
  16. Who do you replace him with?
  17. A lot of those pitchers are solid ones. I just don't think they are upgrades over our current options. The only one is Lee.
  18. Arbitrary numbers by a former terrible GM.
