    I guess it doesn't matter anyway because the Sox didn't put a claim on him. The Sox were big on Mauer before the big contract, but with it running to 2018 at big $$$$$ and him not getting any younger BC passed on him.

    Kendrys Morales is an interesting player. He seems to be an extra piece for the Angels. With the young guys they have now he might not fit in there and this might be the type of player the Sox could get.

    Iglesias having a good September is good for the Sox no matter what plans they have for him. He hits well and gains some confidence for 2013. It will make SS not look like a major whole in the off season. He hits well and they decide to go another direction then he is a bigger chip. If he hits .150 and plays a lot down the stretch who in the nation is going to live with that in 2013. He is going to get tested to because I believe 23 of the final 32 games are against teams still in the playoff hunt. That means he is going to see some good pitching. If he plays the steller D I can live with .250.

    Managing in today's era is tough because you got guys with 6 and 7 year contracts and making a lot of $$$$$$$ who are doing their own thing, and not the team thing. An on top of that you have the FO telling managers in some cases who to play and who is done at 160 innings on the season. Boston is a tough town to manage in before you factored all that in.

    The only way Twins trade Mauer is if they get someone to take the whole contract like the Sox got the Dodgers to take $$$$$ in the trade. Mauer is 29 and his contract runs through 2018. He will be 35 by the end of the contract. If you want to keep his bat in the lineup you would have to move him to 1B. He has already started to break down from catching and has been on DL several times the last couple of seasons. Granted he can hit, and would hit in Fenway. If your fine with him at first then he might be of value a few years of his contract.

    The questions about Crawfords contract by the media and fans started after seven ABs when he was moved out of the second slot in the lineup. He tried to prove he was worth the contract the whole year, and struggled the whole year and heard some boos. Based on Hamilton's past I could see similar things happening. He has had periods where he has struggled and if he is making big $$$$$ long term he is going to hear the fans and the media.

    Managers that talk too much to try to get some of the media focus on them can be a positive thing. Its when they are throwing their players under the bus where you have problems.

    If Gomez is your starting 1B in April then it will be a loooooooooooooooooong season. What offense you get from him he will give back up in the field. I think J Upton has a no trade clause in his contract and the Red Sox are one of the teams he can nix a trade to. Good young player (the kind they should be looking for), but he would have to be talked into coming here. Some guys know that they just don't want to play under the microscope of Boston.

    Good point on the stretch in Texas where he was in a slump. The media and fans wouldn't treat that to kindly if he making big $$$$$$. Think of what Crawford went through last year. Big things are expected out of big contracts in Boston.

    The starters were so inconsistent the first half that the bullpen pitched a sh _ _ load of innings which is now catching up with them. Most good teams have one or two guys that give them a ton of quailty starts that save the bullpen.

    I know Hamilton wouldn't take it, but if he would, would you do a 2 year deal at between 20-25 million per season? The problem with these 20+ million contract is that they are 6 and 7 years long. Those our problems waiting to happen.

    Mauer's contract run until 2018 at major $$$$$$ so I take a pass on this. He has been injuried off and on the last couple of years. He doesn't have much left in the catcher tank. This would be another contract that could go badly quickly. He is 29 and not getting any younger.

    If you look at everything that has happened the last few weeks it looks like they will bring back BV for year two. If you weren't going to do that why not replace him now and allow the new guy to look at some of the players now with 2013 in mind. If you are using the rest of 2012 as a try out for 2013 for some of the kids wouldn't it make sence that your planned 2013 manager be doing the observing. Stewart pitching tonight and probably a lot of young players playing the rest of 2012.

    If the Sox are attempting to reset this thing then Aceves suspension had to happen. If the rules don't apply to everyone from your stars to number 25 on the roster you are asking for problems. The whole Manny saga should have shown us that. When it did blow up it wasn't pretty. From what I read BV had a short bullpen last night and used Aceves for the two innings. Aceves hasn't had it lately and BV has to make the switch to Bailey. Bailey still has to prove he can close in Boston.

    He had injury issues before the Sox drafted him. He fell to them because of that.

    It is all right to have nice dreams about King Felix in a Red Sox uniform, but I hope he stays in Seattle his whole career because if he goes anywhere it will be to the $pankees. Cashman has the Seattle GM on speed dial and calls Seattle every fifteen minutes to see if they are ready to trade Felix. That nice dream could turn into a nightmare if he ends up in the Bronx.

    When to bring up young kids to the show is always one of those tough questions. You bring them up to early and they don't produce they could lose their confidence and be ruined for you. If it going to be a bridge year I don't see the Sox rushing everyone and will be looking at one year contracts to fill in the wholes.

    I think the Sox will put an offer on the table this off season for Ellsbury of what they think he is worth (Won't be Crawford like number / been there done that), and if it is not taken then he will traded at some piont before next years July trading dead line. I think this thread was started because the big trade kind of ended the 2012 season and the one thing that means is the off season talk begins.

    If they fired Tito because they thought the players had taken over the ship and it was sinking and hired BV to correct the problem then let him. Aceves knew when he got the closing job it was because a player got injuried. I thought it was kind of an unwritten rule that players don't lose jobs because of injuries. I also read that Aceves ripped his jersey off in the bullpen when he didn't get the call to go in. Now if BV didn't communicate with him before the game I can see him being upset, but the whole jersey thing is showing up a teammate, also one of those unwritten rules.

    I totally agree, Lincecum is not a stud starter to invest 22 million. Sox should stay clear of this one.

    Gomez has a history of hitting the minors, but is he a full time 1B in the majors. I think the Sox signed him to be depth player in case of injuries. I believe the inter league schedule just spreads the games that you play against the other league out over the season instead of putting them all together. If that is the case then that will work better if Papi is still here and has to play 1b to keep his bat in the lineup. Now I like all three of these players and would like to see them as part of the 2013 Sox, but Pedroia and Ellsbury have been hurt as much as Papi over the last few years. If you keep the contract at 2 years at 12 to 15 million per season I think Papi has earned the right to retire a Sox.

    Lincecum is struggling this year in a pitchers park in the National League is not an answer for success in the AL East. Sox are not going to invest 20 million or more on one pitcher that is not almost a sure thing at this time. If they get a starting pitcher it will be in the 12 to 15 million range and be part of a rotation with Lester and Buchholtz.

    Big Papi and the Laser Show are now the face of the Sox. Both have proven that they can produce and have success in Boston. Sox need Papi in the lineup next year so I would be willing to give him 2 years at 12-15 million a year.
