    I don't know how you can predict Lackey pitching over 200 innings coming after missing a whole season with TJ. Just as bad is Doubront pitching 200. It would be a miracle if one pitched that much, but both is not likely. If you count Lester that is three pitchers over 200 innings. Not realistic because the four league championship teams last year only had two 200 inning pitchers each last year. Sox still need a SP that not only eats innings, but pitches effectively.

    Dempster is not the answer to the SP problem. Sox FO needs to be thankful he turned down the offer and just move on. I think Sanchez is out of the question because he is going to ask for too many years. If they could get him at three years they would, but there is no way that Sanchez takes less then five years. He is the number 2 FA starter and this is his one big pay day.

    The Rangers hold the key to what a lot of teams do moving forward. They are in on the two big FA (Hamilton and Greike). Once those two are off the board then you will probably see a lot of movement with the remaining SP on the market. I just hope when the dust clears the Sox have added the SP that they really need.

    If and a BIG if, the Sox were to sign Hamilton they slide Victorino over to CF until Bradley is ready to go.

    One year at 4.5 it is worth the risk. Has had some luck in the AL. He is an experienced RP and his signing will allow the Sox to move bullpen arms for some other piece that they need.

    As of now and looking at the 40 man roster the staff is (no certain order): Lester Buchholtz Doubront Lackey Morales (Have said that they will stretch him out in the spring in case he is needed) Don't know if that is a rotation that will be able to compete for playoff spot?

    Ellsbury is moved only if: 1) they can get a top of the rotation starter or 2) they bring in Hamilton. I don't see either happening and I believe Ellsbury starts the season in Boston.

    I think Seattle is his fall back location. I still think his place is staying in Texas and its all about the length of the contract. The $panks didn't do a lot in Nashville and I could see them coming in under the radar at the last minute and signing him. The only way he ends up in Boston is on a 3 year big $$$$ deal. With the Sox its not about the $$$$ its the years. If he is set on a 5 year deal then its the Rangers, $panks, or the Mariners. Now if you see the Sox move Ellsbury in the next couple of weeks (Which they say they are not) then the Hamilton think might happen. I don't see it though.

    Not sold on Dempster and glade he passed on the Sox offer. With that said the Sox still must add a SP that can compete in the AL East. We see these teams so many times. Lohse is the name you are starting to here and I'm a little concern that his success has come in the NL. He doesn't throw that hard and not sure how he would make out in the AL East. Regardless, the Sox need to be able get a starter and once Greike is off the market the rest of these FA pitchers will go quickly.

    Napoli is a good fit offensively for the Sox. Has put up good numbers at Fenway in his career. I have a couple of concerns though. His defense at 1B is probably below average, and if used some at catcher he will not play 162 at first (He has never had well over 500 AB in a season). Thus there is a need for another position player who can play first and maybe the outfield. Maybe Sands is that guy?

    The 2013 closer will come from the list of relievers in house with Bailey probably getting the first crack at it. With so many other holes on the roster I can't see them bringing in any one else unless Bailey is used as a chip to fill another hole.

    Teams that win and go deep in the playoffs have #1 and #2 that get you around 200 innings. The four teams that made league championship series in 2012: Tigers: Verlander 238 Sanchez 195 Yanks: CC 200 Kuroda 219 Cards: Lohse 211 Wainright 198 Giants: Cain 219 Bumgarner 208 Until the Sox have that then their SP will be a weak spot.

    What is Jeter on a see food diet? At his age, the position he plays, and a short off season because of his injury is there any Yankee fans that are a little concern? As far as the catching the $panks need to replace the game calling and D that Martin gave them. A catcher's ability to do so goes along way in a team having success.

    Walden throws hard and is added to a deep Braves bullpen. Hanson health is in question, and now the Braves strong bullpen shortens the game. I never question the Braves when it comes to pitching.

    I think if the Sox make 2013 a bridge year then go with as many young players as possible and mix in players that will make the 2013 version a fun team to watch with a eye towards 2014. If they did that most Sox fans could live with that. Don't tell us that you are going to spend big in 2013 and go have way with everything and field a team that gives no hope for 2014.

    We need a healthy productive season from Buchholtz. When he is on his game he is very good. He needs to be consistent, and he hasn't proven that he can be yet. Until he does he is a good middle of the rotation pitcher. To climb up to a #1 or #2 spot he has to win 15 to 20 games and consistently go deep into games. Your #1 or# 2 starters you have to be able to pencil them in at the beginning of the season for at least 15 wins and 200 innings. I don't know if we can do that with Buchholtz.

    It would be nice if the Sox got lucky with one of those depth staring pitchers they sign and got a good season out of one of them. Jurjens is not to far removed from having success and it wouldn't be wrong to take a chance on him. Don't forget De La Rosa who we got in the trade from the Dodgers. If healthy you might see him in Boston by mid-season. As far as Price goes the Rays would never trade him to someone in the division. The only way the Sox could get him is as a FA, and then they would be competing with the $pankees and the Dodger$.

    Sox still have major holes in several places (SP, 1B, Of, and SS if you feel Iglesias isn't ready) and the moves that have been made or are being rumored don't put the Sox in a position to make a run at the playoffs. I think if the FO wants to go with the youth and needs 2013 to be a bridge year then come out and say that. Its the saying we are going to spend for 2013 and then not seeing any action is what drives Sox fans crazy. It doesn't help that you see a lot of the other teams making moves to improve themselves.

    As long as Napoli wants 4 years the Sox won't bit on that. LaRoche wants 3 years and the Nats trade for Spann ends his stay in D.C. The rumors of the Sox talking to him again are picking up.

    The Sox have a lot of bull pen arms and need to set their 40 man roster so I can see them moving some. Don't know if they will get much back, but if packaged with a catcher they might be able to fill one of their holes. There will be some action in the next week in regards to this. Rumors continue that they have interest in other bullpen arms so some of the current arms will be moved.

    I agree that Lester is a guarentee innings eater for the Sox. If the Sox trade Lester then 2013 is a total bridge year, and a total rebuild with youth is underway. I can't see them trading from a weakness of SP and still be competitive in 2013. SP continues to be their biggest hole. Hopefully, BC starts to fill some of the holes next week in Nashville.
